Well I love strong characters especially if they are grey. And after Durga and Sakshi of EHT, I am loving the 2 woman of Manmariziyaan. Piyaali and Samaira.
Piyali is not an antagonist, but a woman who may have struggled a lot in her days to reach the position where she is. Her struggles and success has given this woman a great superiority complex and a feeling that without her nothing will move. Everyone should be thankful to her for whatever she has done to them. This thankfulness is not an expectation, it is a demand that she feels she is worthy of.
Yes we don't know Piyali's backstory yet, but considering her age the generation in which she grew up would have had boy preference and she had to prove herself again and again to get her rights. And this struggle is unconsciously in her mind which she takes on her daughter Samaira. She feels a girl has to earn it, there might be easy way for a boy, but not for a girl. In addition to that her ego doesn't allow her to appreciate her daughter. Her ego is hurt when a firm decides to take the ad campaign to the firm where Samaira is and when she gets the oppourtunity to hit back at Sam, she uses Radhika as a weapon to hit her back.
Now Samaira. Yes she is right in her own way. She is a very talented young lady. She deserves to be appreciated. But the problem with her is that she also has never tried to understand why her mother behaves the way she is. After most face offs if you see Samrat mostly points fingers at his wife than at Sam. It is time she is told what her mother had gone through to reach where she is. Only if she knows her mother's journey she will be able to appreciate her more because she will understand why her mother behaves the way she is. At this point for Samaira, Piyali appears a woman who doesn't see the talent in her, always want to find complaints about her, find reasons to downgrade her.
Same is the case with Piyali. She doesn't see the daughter in Samaira on whose success she as a mother should feel proud. If Sam goes above her, it is a fact that she is only taking the Khanna name to greater heights.
At present Piyali and Sam are the 2 employees of the Birdsong who are at logger heads about their talent. Turning point will be when they learn to be mother and daughter whose combined talent can take Birdsong to newer heights.

amazing post once again 👏
some where i feel piyali cares for samaira but she cant show the emotions. dont know exactly whats the reason behind the behaviour change is it because his son died in the accident. not very sure. but before that as we saw flashbacks and samrat confronting piyali it showed that piyali adored her daughter.
so ya what happened in the past should be revealed.. and they have another daughter too, as in episode 2 there was a flashback scene..

Interesting post! Loved your take on Piyali! :) But somehow I feel and atleast that is what they show Sam feels, that this attitude towards Sam is new... i mean this has started only after that accident in which her mom holds Sam responsible for her son's death... Because not only in the office even outside at home her attitude is the same... She is trying to avoide any personal talks and tries to talk only about work even at home and Sam even asks her one day about it but her mom deflects the question...
It is natural when something happens to the person you love the most, you sometimes become illogical in finding a person to blame it on... In this case i guess her son must have been her favorite child and his death must have caused quite a shock to her... So she might be subconsiously believing that if Sam had been a more responsible driver her son would be still alive... It happens... She just needs to accept and take a good grief counselling session...

Until then this tug of war between this mom and daughter pair would continue...

Interesting take on Sam&Piyali's differences, it's true that the older generation are strict with their kids thinking about how they had struggled in their life to reach a position. They forget that mistakes give you lessons and experiences but those mistake need to be done by themselves, and someone can't learn from others mistakes. Sam is too young to understand her mother's PoV at this stage.
This show has lot of potential wish they portray it with the same uniqueness all along

if piyali wants to be so controlling y dnt she get a dog
sam is her daughter not some slave or thing which she had purchased that she can play however she want
piyali only trys to insult and control and harass sam infront of everyone
she doesnt want to encourage or make sam some big she is just jealous of sam
i think she hopes that if sam was dead instead of her son
she insults her so much and torchers her emotionally so much that just some normal employees in BS think that whatever they say/do/plot against sam that piyali will belive there words more than her own daughters and will punish sam without completely finding out what actly hpnd and who did what
sam is crazy who always takes all the crap and lets her controlling mother to make her life hell and make her feel as she is not enough or capable of doing anything though the truth is opp
sam doesnt need BS,BS needs sam
hope her mom opens her eyes soon orelse she will loose both the company and her daughter too
thn noone will be left to blame except for herself
