Part 7After a laughing session with Raghu, I felt something coming up my throat and I automatically ran for the bathroom. As I placed my hands on the sink and vomitted, I felt Raghu's hand on my back, soothing me. I silently thanked him inside. When I finished, I washed my face and turned to see Raghu. He had a face clearly telling that he didn't like it at all, but was relieved to see me well.
"You don't like it, then why do you come here?" I asked him, out of curiousity.
"To stop it."
"And you think by soothing me, you stop it?" Again I asked, his answer was not fully described in my way.
"That's the only way I know." He answered and looked at me. I smiled and went towards the other room to get my things.
"Where are you going?" He asked from behind, I smiled.
"To get my things."
"I don't think you'd need that." He indicated towards a pile of junk placed in bags. "They've already shifted everything." He motioned me to follow him as he opened his closet and, clearly, it was there. Every cloth I had brought with me was there neatly on a hanger or in a drawer. "It's typical of Rukhsana, she always takes care. She has a special affection for you, you know?"
"No, but why?" I asked again, with a curious tone in my voice.
"Satya told me yesterday, Rukhsana was glad I found you. She wouldn't stand another type of... of Natasha. Rukhsana commented that she looks at you as her sister. Rest I don't know, Satya had little time of chat in the morning with me."
I was surprised or shocked, I didn't expect this and that too fast. Raghu turned around and indicated towards the left.
"That's your side and the right one is mine. Now come on, before facing the devils, let's charge you up."
"Charge me up?" I asked as he took me into the room and placed me on the bed.
"Have some rest and think of some good answers." He placed a blanket on me as I took 2 pillows and placed them behind rest in a sitting position.
"Sit with me and tell me about them." I indicated the other side of the bed.
The whole afternoon we spoke about the Singh's. Raghu kept on and on about their personalities and I listened intently. After maybe 1 or 2 hours, I heard movement outside and I stood up to freshen myself up. As I closed the bathroom door, I saw a glimpse of Raghu, with his mouth open, falling asleep as his head was falling downwards. Seeing that, I laughed.
Within 5 minutes I was done and I went into the closet to find something more suitable to wear from the stuff I had bought today. Finally, I found a cute white top and some capris. I hurried and changed before finally approving my appearance. The last thing I was supossed to do was wake Raghu up and that was easy, I just shook him and he woke up with a start nearly scaring me.
"Raghu, It's 6 and I think everyone's outside."
"Oh,... yeah..Ok." He nodded on each word before I shook him again.
"Raghu, you there?" I seriously thought, he needed some kind of alarm to get up.
"Ya, I'm...Let me wash my face." He shook his head and walked towards the bathroom. Within 2 minutes, he walked out and now he really looked nomal.
"Sorry." He muttered as I followed him outside the room, but just as I was about to walk out from the room, he placed his hand on my waist and whispered in my ear.
"Good luck!"
I nudged him and he made a dramatic face in which, I laughed. He really made some weird expressions.
My laugh was heard in the hall that Ankita called me there. The youngsters were there laughing about something with Nikhil. They really made a good couple. I sat down on a sofa and turned to look at Ankita.
"When did you get married to Raghu?" I was surprised, but she was probably taking a test.
"2 years ago, on the 10th of March." I answered, that was my mom's birthday date.
"Where were you living from the last 2 years?"
"I live near Downtown."
"And why did you move here?"
"Because Antara got pregnant and I wanted extra care for her." Raghu answered and I felt grateful, I wouldn't have come up with a better idea.
"Where did you two meet?" Now that I didn't know. How was I supossed to say I met him in a bar which even I don't remember or I met him in his apartment after sleeping with him?
"Simple, Coffee shop." Raghu told them making his own story.
"Ok, Good, I think you are prepared." Ankita nodded at us and he face split in a big smile. "Now, gift time." She squealed and grabbed a bag from Rukhsana who had a bag of her own. She came up to me and took out a gift wrapped packet from the bag. "Here, I hope you like it." She whispered. I opened the packet and there was a lovely bracelet. Really, they couldn't stop giving gifts.
"If you're thinking that why we are giving gifts, it is because we're welcoming you and showing you the happiness you have brought. And that bracelet is from me and Nikhil."
Next came Aman and Surbhi, they gave me another bracelet. But it was the last one which touched my heart the most. It was made of my favourite type of beads as it was from Rukhsana and Satya.
At that rate, I told the girls to hug me. When I thanked them, I heard an attention calling cough. I turned around as Raghu caught my hand and squeezed it and I relaxed, facing the worst that could happen to me.
There stood the woman I had seen in the morning, Mrs. Padma Singh and beside her, was Mr. Mohan Singh, her husband. A little behind, I could see Uncle and Aunty making their way towards the hall. The elders came in the hall and Aunty introduced me.
"Padma, Mohan, This is Antara, Raghu's wife and our daughter-in-law." Padma Aunty merely nodded, but Mohan Uncle shook hands.
"Nice to meet you, Raghu really looks happy with you." Uncle smiled as did I.
"He looked happier with our daughter." Padma Aunty spoke not bothering to keep her voice down.
"Padma, At was time were we supossed to meet the Grewals?" Aunty asked her, a little loud for everyone, but they dismissed it.
"At 7... Oh My.. it's almost half past 6, I'll go and get ready. You too dear I wouldn't want to be late for such an important dinner."
She hurried off to her room with her husband following her behind. Once the door was closed, the girls broke into laughter.
"She gets worse every year, so much drama she has." Ankita commented between giggles.
"So... the house is ours tonight." Aman asked Aunty as she nodded.
"Yes, you all can have your 7 to 9 movie day tonight, but first the girls will take permission to sleep over and Raghu, make sure they sleep in different rooms and far from the boys." Aunty listed the things and went off to her room.
"She never forgets to say that." Nikhil muttered dejected as the girls sped off to call their respective homes.
In the end, we all sat with blankets and pillows watching Yamla Pagla Deewana, my personal favourite, ordered food from an Italian Restaurant as I craved for it. Upon finishing the movie, I made sure the girls were sleeping in the apropriate guest rooms while Raghu was speaking to the boys about something. I kissed the girls goodnight and thanked them for their gifts. With that, I made my way to my rooom or shall I say, our room.
Once inside I took extra pillows and lined them in the middle. A nice barrier and no problem in sleeping in the couch. Raghu came inside after 5 minutes and judging by his face, he had an animated talk with his brothers. Automatically, he changed and lied down in the other side giving me the side I had slept in the afternoon. After changing, I too lied down. My intention was to sleep, but I grabbed a book, Eclipse. I just wanted to read a paragraph, I read it and kept it back in its place. Raghu saw this.
"What was that?" He asked, curiosity in his voice.
"Umm... a book." I answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"I saw that, but why did you keep it back?, you could have read a little more if you wanted."
"I just wanted to read 1 paragraph."
"Which one?" He asked as he walked over the table and flipped the pages.
"It's not your type." I answered, automatically.
"How do you know my type?" He looked at me with his piercing gaze that I was forced to look down.
"All the boys don't like dangerously romantic novels." I recited, my friend had told me that line a long time ago.
"Let me read it." He asked with an almost pleading tone in his voice.
"Pass me the book." He grinned and sat on the bad, taking out the line pillows from the centre and shifting towards me. "Here." I said as I passed him the book.
