TWENTY THREE

Raghu had taken on board a lot of responsibility from a very young age, it was like he had given up his childhood to take over the family business and look after everyone. He wasn't like machmach or shruti, he didn't let anyone get close enough to be able to share his problems, he always kept himself closed off he didn't understand what love was or even how to love, the only type of love he had ever known was what he had for his sister. Everything in raghu's life was in black and white even though he lived in a house where everything was in beautiful colour, where everyone lived and loved life he was never really able to relate to them he didn't live life he just did what he needed to do to fill his existence - he worked to ensure that RNN Designs succeeded, he worked to protect his family and that was it.

'raghu and get married you must be joking' machmach could not contain his laughter 'shruti you are absolutely right...who would want to marry him raghu doesn't even know what it is to like someone can you imagine him being in love' whilst everyone was having a little joke at raghu's expense antara couldn't help feeling sad for him. There was a side to him that she had seen that was kind and caring, a little confusing but all the same there was a side to Raghunath Naik that was soft. It wasn't long ago he had apologised to her he had started to open up to her, without realising what she was doing antara found herself walking up towards his room.

Antara knocked on the door not hearing anything she let herself in. she walked further into the room looking over the pool side but raghu was nowhere to be seen. 'Maybe he is in the study' she thought to herself as she turned to leave raghu came out of the bathroom he was surprised to see her 'what are you doing here' he said in a stern voice antara closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, she wasn't sure what she was doing here either she turned around and gave him a nervous smile. 'I...I just came to...um to let you know that Sahil and Sara are coming by the office tomorrow and I am going to Agra' antara could feel her heart racing 'And' raghu shot out. Antara looked at him a little stunned 'and...um I thought you might like to know'. Raghu threw the towel he was holding on the bed and took a step forward 'well you thought wrong' he hissed at her. Antara looked up to meet his eyes. 'I don't understand...' 'What is there not to understand Miss Antara Kaul' raghu cut Antara off mid-sentence. 'What you and your little friends do is of no interest to me' antara was getting irked by his behavior and forever changing temperament.

Antara raised her head higher and stood straight 'Well considering this whole thing was your idea how can it not be of an interest to you and what is wrong with you one minute you are all happy and involved the next you act like this, I find you impossible to understand'. Raghu took another step forward closing the gap between them Antara recognised the look in his eye before he could say or do anything she knew she needed to get out of there, she turned towards the door only to be pulled back by raghu 'I haven't finished talking antara' as he said this he pulled antara's arm forcing her to spin around.

'Firstly, it wasn't my idea it was shruti's I thought I would be charitable to your pathetic cause and work so offered to help you, if I had known you were going to spend more time with your little boyfriend and not take the work seriously I would never have offered and secondly you have no reason to understand me'

Antara looked at raghu, he was so angry it was making his whole body vibrate antara's heart started to pound beating hard against her chest he lips started to quiver she tried to endure the pain he was causing her but his fingers were digging deeper into her arms. Antara grabbed hold of his hand and tried to pull it away 'you're hurting me raghu, let me go' she said as her voice started to break. Raghu let go of her arm but didn't move back. Antara fought to hold back her tears she wasn't going to let him break her this time. She took a deep breath and shot at him everything she could in breath.

'I do not need or want your charity, me and my friends are more than capable of working on this project with or without RNN Designs, if you remember Mr Raghunath Naik I was the one who was against the damn idea in the first place. And how dare you insinuate that Sahil is my boyfriend and even if he was who I spend time with is none of your god damn business and lastly, you are absolutely right I don't have a reason to understand you and I hope to god I never find one, now if you don't mind get out of my way I need to go' antara breathed out almost gasping she hadn't been able to control the loose tears that made their way down her face she was almost shaking, she pushed past a stunned raghu and ran downstairs. Raghu stood still his insides were exploding due to the multitude of emotions that had over taken him at one time he managed to control the urge to scream out instead he threw whatever he could grab and threw it across the room smashing it into little pieces.

Antara did not stop shaking she was enraged, she couldn't believe the audacity of the man how could he say she didn't take her work seriously studying for her Masters at the Art Academy is something she had worked towards all her life it was her dream come true, and how dare he, she did not want or need his help and to top he had thought Sahil was her boyfriend, what on earth made him think that. Antara was furiously pacing her room she kept wiping her tears as she rambled on to herself 'that's it...there is no way we are going to work with Raghu or RNN Designs, and if Sahil and Sara don't agree then I will work on my own' antara had made up her mind she didn't want to be anywhere near that schizophrenic monster anymore. She immediately text Sara and Sahil

Hi need to talk urgently about the exhibition meet me before class tomorrow

'Antara you can't be serious...no... we have planned out everything and started working, backing out now will mean lost time and having to start from scratch' Antara knew Sara had a point 'I am sorry Sara if you want to continue with this then you are more than welcome to I can't...not anymore' Sara was about to start another argument with Antara when Sahil stopped her he had not said anything, he could sense that something had happened and that Antara would not have taken a decision like this lightly. 'antara what happened? Did something happen with raghu?' Antara eyes moistened, what was she to tell them 'Let's just say that with our families joining and with the wedding coming up it will be hard for me to continue' antara tried to convince them but even she knew it was a lame excuse. Sahil knew it was more than that he was sure to get it out of her when he was with her on his own.

By the end of their discussion things were not anymore clearer the only thing that stood was Antara decision not to work with RNN Designs. As Sara stomped off in a mood Sahil grabbed antara 'what happened Antara, what did he do to you, and don't say nothing' he said pointing at the bruise on her arm. Antara had found a friend in Sahil who she could share her problems with and open up to without any hesitations, she trusted him he was one of her best friends. Antara told Sahil what had happened, Sahil was not happy in the slightest he was upset and angry for the way Raghu had treated Antara. After a few moments Sahil turned to Antara 'the other day when you nearly fell, you said that you had seen him...right' Antara nodded not sure where he was taking this 'he must have seen us Antara put two and two together and come up with five' 'excuse me' Antara looked at him confused. 'antara..think about what happened, when you fell I grabbed you pulling you back remember I was holding you...well more like hugging you until you steadied, he must of seen us hugging and thought...' Antara still looked at Sahil confused 'what does that have to do with anything Sahil' Sahil took a deep breath he knew his little friend would need a full step by step explanation.

'Ok let me break this down, this is how I see it. I think...no I believe that Raghu is jealous of me' Antara looked at him in disbelief as she was about to speak, he stopped her 'No wait...let me finish Antara...I wouldn't have said it if hadn't seen it for myself. I'm a guy so trust me on this, after you first told me about your relationship with him and how he had turned up to Shimla I guessed then that this guy likes you. when we went to his office the other day every time I touched you his eyes were throwing daggers at me he made it obvious that he didn't like it. And then when you fell he definitely saw us in an embrace which must have enraged him to the extent where he behaved like a mad man' Antara tried to register what Sahil had said, could he be right? Did Raghu have feelings for her and was he really jealous of Sahil? The more she thought about the more it made sense; he had referred to Sahil as her boyfriend.

'antara don't look so confused, I know I am right...can I ask you something?' Sahil hesitated Antara met his gaze 'of course you can' 'antara do you like him? ...I mean do you have feelings for him?' Antara froze as Sahil looked on to her trying to read her eyes and face. 'I...I don't know, I have never really thought about it, I know I have never liked the way he has treated me he is always so aggressive, so intimidating and totally unreasonable...but I don't think I have ever really hated him for being that way...I would be lying if I said I wasn't attracted to him whenever we have met he has made my heart jump out and accelerate at the same time...but...I don't know' Antara looked at Sahil with the most confused expression as she was trying to understand what she was saying. Sahil by now had understood the Antara did have feelings for him it was more than a physical attraction. Sahil started to laugh 'antara I have planted the seed and now let's see what comes of it. But going back to the exhibition are you sure you won't change your mind?' Antara nodded there was no way she could, not after what had happened and with what Sahil had just said she would feel even more weird being around him, she didn't want this seed to grow into something she couldn't control.

Raghu again angry on antara...bt raghu has grown up having and feeling of lots of reponsibilities...which made him like this!..sahil is very good friend of antu..he cleverly noticed raghu and his activites and helping antara too..
