Part III MUJHSE FRIENDSHIP KAROGE?

It was early morning when Raghu started his morning with determination. Kuch bhi hojaaye, aaj toh main is Miss Call se dosti karke rahoonga! On the other side of the colony, Antara woke with a promise to herself; aaj main Raghu ko face karoongi aur apne life mein aage badhungi! I have to act normal with him! Bas hogaya yeh jhadga! Ladaai toh main uska dhyaan kheechne ke liye karti thi na! Ab no more grabbing attention and no more jhadga! Jaise main baaki sabke saath baat karti hoon waise hi Raghu ke saath bhi baat karungi! She prayed to Bappa that her promise would not break and got up from her bed.

Aaji smiled happily as she munched upon some biscuits with her chai. Kal Machmach ne kya acting ki! Raghu ko manaliya usne! Raghu ko! Raghu ko sach mein lagta hai ki Machmach Antara se pyaar karta hai! Aaji giggled. Use kya maaloom ki Antara aur Machmach ek doosre ko bhai behen maante hain! She smiled proudly. Waah Machmach! Waah! Agar Raghu aur Antara mein pyaar hua toh main tereko Bhurji Paav khilayegi! She smiled dreamily at the thought of her favorite dish; Bhurji Paav. After a while, her mind came back to her favorite Jodi in the whole world; Raghu and Antara! Ab Raghu ko laga diya Antara ke peeche! Ab woh Antara se milega, use jaanega, samjhega aur jab tak Machmach ki pyaar ki baat chedega tab tak use bhi pyaar ho jaayega! Waah! Mera bhi kya dimaag chalta hai, nahi! Suddenly Machmach's words from last morning came into her head, Par agar phir bhi Raghu ko usse pyaar nahi hua toh?' She gulped, kahin Raghu ko pyaar nahi hua toh? She looked up at the ceiling and prayed in her heart; Bappa meri ek ichcha poori kardo! Antara ko mere ghar ki bahu bana do! Mujhe aur kuch nahi chaahiye!

While Aaji was praying, Raghu walked into the hall, dressed in his regular jacket and jeans and marched outside. Aaji's eyes widened in wonder and she checked the time. It was 7: 30 in the morning. Yeh yeda itni subah uthkar kidhar ko chala? Aaj toh Sunday hai aur Sunday ko toh yeh nau baje tak sota hai. Aaj ise kya hogaya? She got up from her bed and walked towards the door. As she looked out of the main door, she noticed Raghu going towards Antara's house. She turned around and grinned eagerly. Arre Waah! Bappa! Tu ne toh itni jaldi meri baat sun li. Ab toh is khushi mein party karnheech padegi. "Kya karoon?", she thought for a while. Suddenly, she snapped her fingers and grinned, "Haan! Bhurji Paav khaaungi! Yeh badhiya idea hai!" She looked around here and there and then shouted in a loud voice, "Ae Machmach! Gaadi nikaal!" She wandered off in search of Machmach and her Bhurji Paav.

While Aaji searched for Machmach, Raghu rang the bell of Antara's house. As the door opened, Raghu froze. In front of him stood Antara dressed in T-Shirt and pyjama, obviously just up from the bed. Her eyes were sleepy and she was looking at him with such a lost look on her face that Raghu wanted to keep on staring.

Hey...Maahiye Ve...Ve Maahiya Ve

Antara froze for a moment at seeing Raghu in front of her but remembered her promise to herself. She took a deep breath and looked at Raghu. Suddenly she frowned; Yeh Raghu mujhe aise kyun dekh raha hai? She shrugged and snapped her fingers in front of his face. Raghu was jerked out of his thoughts. Antara smiled sleepily at him, "Raghu tum yahaan! Achcha! Kal jo baat karni thi woh karne aaye ho, right? Aajao! Andar aajao! Main aaj thodi free hoon!" She turned and walked in. Raghu looked at her in surprise. Aaj yeh kaashmiri mirchi mithaai ki dukaan kaise ban gayi? Itne pyaar se baat karreli hai? Aaj suraj nikla kidhar se hai re? Antara turned when she noticed that Raghu did not follow her. She smiled at him, "Arre! Wahin khade kyun ho? Aajao andar!"She turned and reached the kitchen. Raghu took few steps in and looked around. He stuttered, "Woh...Ghar pe ...koi nahi hai kya?" Antara turned and smiled at him. "Maami mandir gayi hai aur Maama so rahe hain. Aaj Sunday hai na!" Raghu nodded and stood there. Antara came out of kitchen while asking, "Arre Raghu! Tum chaai piyo..." She stopped and frowned, "Tum khade kyon ho? Baitho!" Raghu smiled uncertainly. Her smiling and talking nicely was unnerving him. He hesitated and sat on the sofa. She smiled at him, "Tum chai piyoge? Main abhi apne liye hi chai bana rahi thi. Piyoge?" Suddenly, Raghu realized that in the anxiety of meeting her he had forgotten to even drink tea. He had just brushed his teeth, took his bath and had wandered towards her house. He smiled, "Haan! Piyunga!" She walked away to the kitchen and he looked around to pass the time. After a while, he got worried as Antara had yet to come out of the kitchen. He walked into the kitchen and noticed Antara cooking something on the kadhai. "Aaj kal chai kya kadhai mein banti hai?" he piped up in sarcasm but next moment he regretted saying it. Hogaya kaam tamaam! Ab yeh yedi ladegi mere se aur Mission M&M ka full stop lagega! Pakka yeda hai tu Raghu! Ab toh tujhe achchi khaasi sunni padegi! Antara turned towards him surprised to see him. She wanted to reply back sarcastically as that was her habit to his comments from her teenage. But she remembered her promise and calmed herself down, "Nahi! Woh mujhe laga ki agar tumne ghar pe chai nahi pi toh kuch khaaya bhi nahi hoga. Pet khaali hoga. Isliye tumhaare liye poha bana rahi hoon!" She turned back to the kadhaai while Raghu looked at her in surprise. He was touched by her thoughtfulness. Yeh Antara itni bhi buri nahi hai!

Raghu sat on the chair nearby and waited for Antara to finish cooking. Suddenly, he asked her a question about her studies. She replied back and soon they had a healthy conversation going amongst them as Antara served him chai and poha. "Tu bhi le?" Raghu mumbled while pointing to poha. Antara shook her head, "Nahi! Nahaake khaaungi! Tum aur lo!" She sat nearby with her chai and soon the discussion continued between them.

Maamaji had just woken up when he heard two voices coming from kitchen out of which one was of Antara. He picked up his glasses and wore it in hurry. While generally he would not have worried, he knew that this wife was in Mandir then who was Antara talking to? And why the other voice was that of a male? Concerned for his niece, he walked out of his room. As he neared the the kitchen, he froze in his place. There sat Antara and Raghu chatting and laughing and enjoying each other's company. Maamaji stared at the scene for few minutes in disbelief and then removed his specs. He cleaned his specs with his kurta sleeves and wore it back. The scene still did not change. Yeh main kya dekh raha hoon? Antara aur Raghu ek doosre ke saamne hai aur lad nahi rahe! Yeh toh kabhi nahi hi hua! From Antara's teenage he had seen both of them fight like dogs and cats. Toh aaj yeh kaise hogaya? Kahin suraj doosri disha se toh nahi uga? He looked through the window. No, the sun had risen from east. Toh aaj yeh kaise hogaya? Kahin main sapna toh nahi dekh raha hoon? Haan! Sapna hi hoga! He nodded his head and walked off towards his bed scratching his bed. Lagta hai kam sone ki wajah se aise khaab aa rahe hain. Thoda aur so jaaunga toh sab theek hojaayega.

Soon, it was time for Raghu to go home. Raghu looked at his watch, "Arre! Baat baat pe time nikal gaya dekh! Aaji udhar fikar kar rahi hogi aur teri Maami bhi ghar aa rahi hogi. Main chalta hai!" Antara nodded and smiled sweetly. She walked with him to the door when he turned, "Woh ... main soch raha tha ki kyun na hum dono dost ban jaayein? Bas hogaya yeh ladaai jhagda! Ab dosti kar lete hain. Kya bolti hai. Friends?" He raised his right hand towards Antara. Antara hesitated but shook his hand. He turned and walked away while Antara closed the door. She turned and slid down the door and sat on the floor as the smile from her face wiped away and she stared at a distance. Only she knew how tough it was to smile at Raghu and act normal with him when her heart was beating fast and she was unable to even breathe properly! She closed her eyes; Kyun kar rahe ho yeh sab Raghu? Kyun? Main tumhein bhoolne ki koshish kar rahi hoon aur tum mere dil mein aur pyaar jaga rahe ho. Yeh galat hai, Raghu! Aaj tumhaare saath jo waqt bitaaya woh haseen bhi tha aur dard bhara bhi! Kyun tum itne paas aa rahe ho jab ki main tumhein choo bhi nahi sakti? Kahin tumhein mujhse pyaar toh nahi...? Nahi Antara! Aisa mat soch! Agar sach nahi hua toh tera dil aur tootega! Ab ummeed bhi lagaana galat hai! She took a deep breath and stayed there for a while. Then suddenly, she frowned; par Raghu mujhse milne kyun aaya tha? Aur jo baat karni thi woh bhi nahi ki? Antara remained confused for a while at Raghu's action.

Raghu grinned happily as he climbed the stairs of his house. Aaj meri aur Miss Call ki friendship hogayi. Ab bahut jald main uski dil ki baat padh lega. Phir? He started singing in his mind. Mere yaar ki shaadi hai, aaj mere yaar ki shaadi hai! Waise Antara itni bhi buri nahi hai! Bahut interesting hai! Kaash maine pehle hi usse dosti karli hoti. Ek achchi dost pehle hi mil jaati. As he hopped on to the last step and walked on, he heard his Aaji from behind, "Raghu?" He turned around. She was sitting near the stairs, "Aaj itni subah subah kidhar chala gaya tha re?" Raghu gulped. Ab kya boloon? He shrugged, "Aaji, woh kuch kaam tha!" Aaji wanted to needle him more but she decided against it. "Achcha theek hai! Tu naashta karle. Tayyaar hai! Kab se bhook ahoga na?" Raghu replied absentmindedly, "Nahi Aaji! Main Antara ke ghar se poha khaake aaya. Usne apne haathon se banaaya. Bahut achcha tha. Ek dum mast!" Suddenly, his eyes widened as he realized what he had said. Before, Aaji decided to enquire him more about it, he ran away shouting, "Main baad mein milta hai, Aaji. Thoda kaam hai!" Aaji grinned eagerly at the nugget of information delivered by Raghu. Antara se mila bhi aur poha bhi khaaya! Aur toh aur isko pasand bhi aaya! Arre waah! Mera plan toh meri ummeed se bhi jyaada fast aage badh raha hai! Bappa bas aise hi sab kuch theek chalaate rehna! She smiled and went of to the dreamland where her Antara and Raghu would be married and she would play with their kids.
