Their volatile love, Romeo and Juliet?

I was talking to Koyel (Escape.My.Love) on her post "Amazing Episode" when I had the idea of writing this post. Seeing as I've started this show at least twenty episodes afterwards, I decided to go back and actually watch the promos properly. And from what I understood, the main story has not yet begun. See, it's not about Antara and Raghu falling in love, but how their love will affect xyz amount of people - their lovestory is volatile. And you know what, watching yesterday's episode with the balcony scene reminded me of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. There, two people from two different families fall in love but their love is cursed from the start as both of them end up dying. I'm not saying that's what is going to happen but the jist of it has inspired 'Jaan'.

See, Raghu always mentions that 'this is not your Kashmir', whilst in Romeo and Juliet, the two families was the Montague's and the Capulet's, here it's Kashmir and Mumbai. Two complete diverse places where Antara does not fit in Mumbai and I'm pretty sure, Raghu will not fit in Kashmir. The balcony scene was actually pretty much highlighting this, because although the dupatta scene was a little cringeworthy even in other shows, I thought here it had a little significance. I've watched a few episodes back, and saw that even when Antara glanced over at Raghu over the balcony, it was always positioned sideways, so that it doesn't exactly look like the houses are in front of each other (Well, they're not but anyway), I guess this specific scene was needed to show that Antara and Raghu would always be in front of each other, much like in Romeo and Juliet and the warring families. I've also mentioned this to Koyel, that the dupatta is symbolical to their love going from one place to another, ie, Raghu and Antara or Mumbai and Kashmir.

They are both diverse but yet are attracted, and it's this which will be their biggest downfall. We haven't actually met Dayimai (I'm going to use DM for her) but already we know that Raghu has immense respect for her. Through the way Raghu helped Antara in the car scene only because she helped him with the medication, showed that despite who helps him, he will always help them back. Which is probably why he respects DM because she helped him from the streets. Now this will affect him because he will have to choose between his love and his respect for the woman who adopted him? And that's where the promo's make complete sense:

One of my favourite scene of the promos is when Antara is sewing Raghu's name and Raghu is using the gun to write Antara's name. It actually makes sense for their characterisation because both will love each other in their own ways.

Finally, there are numerous scenes of them running to each other and then running together. Like I said before, the main story will only begin when both fall in love and their love is tested. Their volatile love.

For me, this shows that they will be separated at some point maybe because of DM or circumstances but they will always try to come together (the running into the hug scene) and the part where Raghu and Antara are running together, with him slightly in front and her looking at him shows that despite what, Raghu will try to protect her always but I feel he won't be able to. And then the biggest obstacle, their warring families (Mumbai/Kashmir or DM and the terrorists) that will seperate them.

I really hope the Kashmir storyline isn't over and taht those who murdered her dad actually does get punished! But this particular scene intrigued me because the last time we saw the burning guitar was back when the accident happened - does this mean, the events of Kashmir comes back?

Really cannot wait for this show to progress!

Woaaah.. U truly rocked!
But i sincerely hope that the separations are not permanent...
This does look like a passionate love story, especially from the promo, and of course also a painful one in parts (for the leads), but I have always hated such parts in love stories, and may be that is why i have never been a fan of serials as such because i tend to get attached to these characters and their stories, and when they get separated/hurt, it becomes painful for me to continue watching the show, hence i have to discontinue temporarily.
And i know that in RaNtara story also, there is going to be a separation, but i just hope that it is not too long, and the story ends with them being together.
P.S. The last time i was so attached to a serial was way back in 2007..DMG! I was a kid back then..
and now JAAN!!

Zahara...Loved your post to the core...the parellals are very nice..
My two pence on it
Diverse backgrounds ...Yes...But I dont see the how Antara's people will oppose the union...Raghu's might but still there is not much reason to it...I mean why should Daya Mai object to Raghu settling with anyone...
Secondly...It would be interesting if they take up the Kashmir angle again..of Raghu avenging her father or she herself doing it...and Raghu helping...
It is supposed to be a volatile love story...not an easy one that is sure...and the way Antara's family is...it is going to be less of a family drama and more of an out and out love story ...fatal or not...only time will tell...

But as you said, more depends upon who they come on to fall in love..

The way they showed Raghu..shouting Antara's name and cheering...it is obvious that he is going to realize first..and he is going to revel into it...while Antara is going to have a lot of reserve and is going to keep it close to her heart as long as it is possible ...
I want to see the character change to..how love changes both of them..it is going to be interesting!

I doubt it'll end like that! But I actually wouldn't mind, provided the show ends there (even if there are less episodes but with high quality stuff, I would watch it more as opposed to more episodes with low quality stuff). I really hope they keep the violence and the action because that makes it all interesting! Especially when its with Raghu protecting Antara against the world! =D

AW, thank you! Thought my words didn't make much sense now that I think about it - but the show has a lot of potential! I mean, the promos are almost poetic and I really hope the writers/directors do good to it!

😳 Thank you! You know what, even if they do get separated - it makes sense! It's not something that came from out of the blue - and it's been hinted from the promos! I get what you mean by not being able to watch something when its so heartwrenching but that's why I really wish the creatives do right to this serial because it has bags of potential! Ah, I tried to watch DMG but I never liked it (sorry!) but yes, I love Jaan! <3
