Russian net buys Indian drama pre-NATPE Europe

by Jesse Whittock
June 12, 2014

Russian local channel NTK9 has acquired a drama series from India, which is fast becoming a key supplier of scripted shows into central and eastern Europe.

Krasnodar-serving NTK9 bought Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doom (How Do I Call This Love?, pictured) from Indian content provider and channel operator Star TV and Intellecta, a media consultancy that works to sell Indian series and Bollywood movies into Europe, Russia and the CIS countries.

The series will broadcast on weekdays in a 12:05pm slot alongside another Indian series, Diya Aur Baati Hum(The Light of Your Love).

"We have been working together with NTK Krasnodar for the last three years and are very happy with their pioneering efforts to show the best of India to their audience," said Christina Vlahova, CEO, Intellecta.

"We are now looking forward to start working with other TV channels in Russia to be able to offer the best of India and reach an even wider Russian audience."

The deal comes ahead of NATPE Europe, where Indian content providers have been targeting sales. Sources continue to claim Indian drama is challenging Turkish series and Latin American telenovelas in the CEE popularity stakes.

ASHOK LOKHANDE who plays the role of bhabasa in Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum is a fun loving father. He always cares for the family and is opposite in nature from Bhabo (Neelu Vaghela) who is shown as a strict mother in law. He always takes side of his daughter in law Sandhya (Deepika Singh) and son Sooraj (Anas Rashid). He keeps the Rathi family's atmosphere cool. Hee keeps on cracking jokes and is very sweet by nature.

Bhabho to try solving Sandhya's transfer issue in Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum

The professional life of Sandhya (Deepika Singh) has been under doldrums, courtesy her personal life crisis in Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum (Shashi Sumeet Productions Pvt Ltd).

As seen so far, Sooraj (Anas Rashid) who was trying to surprise Sandhya by learning driving had been using her official jeep to learn it.

But as luck would have it, Sooraj bumped the car just in front of the police station where Sandhya was reporting for duty. Now, Sandhya will have to serve a major punishment for whatever Sooraj has done.

Sandhya will now be transferred into the traffic department and this will come as a shocker to her. Also her family will be saddened by this decision, feeling guilty that Sandhya's dream of being an IPS officer has been shattered because of Sooraj.

And now to solve the problem, Sandhya's efficient saas Bhabho (Neelu Vaghela) will decide to take the strings in her hand. Even though Sandhya would not allow her to lend help, Bhabho will decide to talk to Sandhya's head officer and get her posted back as the police officer.

Will Bhabho's effort work for Sandhya? Or will this create more trouble for her?
