have read all the WU when i have not been able to watch due to the how unbearable this serial gets at times. i have even tried putting myself in both sandy and suraj's shoes and could not connect to them. the actors are very good looking but thats it. this serial is too different from the reality that i come from, then i thought, wait i have read somewhere about stuf like this. so i went into my study, where i have a whole lot of books and mags lying around and there i came across a novel i had read. it talks of Stockholm syndrome and it made me realise why sandy is not leaving and instead makes excuses to stay. here is what i found on the net about this disorder:
A strategy of trying to keep your captor happy in order to stay alive becomes an obsessive identification with the likes and dislikes of the captor which has the result of warping your own psyche in such a way that you come to sympathize with your tormenter!
The syndrome explains what happens in hostage-taking situations, but can also be used to understand the behavior of battered spouses, members of religious cults, Holocaust victims, household pets, and perhaps even users of Internet Explorer. I think it may also help explain the popularity of government and of the mass institutionalization of young people.
my point of view is that sandy is emotionally and mentally battered and has been since the moment she entered that house. she has not been threatened with death but being told to leave your husbands house and losing all dignity and self respect is like murder on a girl like sandy. plus the continuous bhabo and entire family playing bad cop and suraj playing good cop has taken a mental toll on the girl. otherwise i have no other excuse to give for sandy's behaviour. i am not defending the girl as i truely believe that she needs severe counselling and rehabilitation and suraj's family(bhabo, sister, both bros and sister-in-law) needs to go to jail and suraj and his father can spend the rest of their life in their mithai ka dukkan making jalebi's.sorry not intended to hurt anyones feelings. this is just the way i relate to the characters of this show. hope to see some improvement in the relationships in that house and that cvs realise that they have taken things too far. do comment and let me know how you relate to the characters of sandy and suraj and what is your take on their psychology. the actors will not be discussed here. no fighting allowed, everyone is entitled to their opinions.
