I guess not ever Hindu follow things the same way. As far as I’m aware seven pharas are for seven promises/vows which the bride and the groom make to each other and also to tie the knot for seven lifetime. Seven pharas are just important as well but it holds no significance without Sindoor and Mangalsutra. And random stranger can’t just fill your parting with Sindoor and claim you as his wife without your consent. If you give your consent then he has the right to claim you as his wife, else you’re free to walk away. And someone who got married with just Sindoor and Mangalsutra are asked to get remarried properly again with mantras and pharas even though they are already considered married. Thanks Judie and Saru for clearing the confusion... Looks like I got carried away by our itv fundas... Lol
Having said that don't you think just by putting sindoor the marriage is done is a little farfetched... The pheras are there for a reason.. Both pheras and sindoor daan are inter dependent upon each other... One can't say if no sindoor no marriage or no pheras no marriage... Aise to anyone can smear the hairline with sindoor of a girl and can claim marriage to be done...
As far as mangalsutra us concerned it's not compulsory for everyone... Like in Bengali wedding there's no concept of mangalsutra.. Black in Bengali wedding in any form is not allowed.. But yes in Punjabi weddings sindoor and mangalsutra both are important...and Shergill's are Punjabi's.
