You would know better but I guess somewhere you would have to go through the realization of what it is you are comfortable with and what it is you want and during that process you would feel irked towards the popular person(s) and the set standards society imposes.

hmmm....i guess the process of being comfortable with yourself is a painful one. one that even the most popular people have to go through. the search for an identity in society and for ones ownself is every human being's search, one way or the other. but yes, when exposed to a society that also demands a certain personality type to belong, the search becomes that much more long winding and difficult.

i have known some people who have been completely comfortable with themselves and not bothered about where they stand on the popularity charts. but i have often wondered if their comfort and satisfaction in the people they are, is not a result of just defending themselves against the lack of acceptance from society. i have wondered, not concluded...

and i think with years i have also come to understand that there are genuinely comfortable people. these people are so comfortable with themselves that they do not require company too much either. essentially loners. and i have envied them a great deal!! to not have the need to be liked and accepted and just be who you are...how wonderful is that!!!!

but even those who strive for popularity have to at some point realise what it is they want...popularity at the risk of losing their true identities or just being true to themselves. and this process of growth should also enable you to forgive those that have been popular. to not bear a grudge against those who had what you coveted, unless they perpetuated your alienation!!

I agree on that Aarti, and may I dare say, I fall into that category of people and although I dont deny that even being essentially an introvert and a loner and someone completely comfortable with the way I am... during the growing years, a need to be liked for what I was... and belong out there... was something I went through only to out grow, during my last two years at school... when I began to realize... I didnt enjoy being socially very active... jus for the norm...

So I completely relate to that bit of what you said...
I am really intriguied by this discussion tangent about popularity and wanting to be someone else...
Cant really contribute much... coz I guess I echo what Gina has said... coz its what I saw too among friends... but beyond that I am jus taking inall this discussion and mulling over it really..!

@ sareeta...can understand. but you know atleast u attempted the other side briefly only to know you didn't want it. i have actually known people who never even bothered!!!!! i wonder what that is like, really....

if you decide to conform to the norms, then you jolly well shouldn't crib about those norms or resnt those who fall within the norms. if you decide not to conform, then you should forgive those who do...its not their fault really!!!

@ Aarti: That is a thought the fact that they are comfortable with themselves is a defense mechanism against not being able to fit in. I have seen a few people like that and have been through that in my teens I guess and yeah it must be nice to be genuinely comfortable with who you are. That would be a real blessing. Yeah and ideally as you grow personally you should be able to forgive those whom you had a grudge against. Agree with you there. Another interesting point is I guess Rahul is still on that journey, still holding grudge and hellbent on getting even when opportunity presents but as Sareeta mentioned when he realizes things probably he will be able to go tell Armaan how much Armaan has changed since their college days and also how much he misunderstood Armaan and that Armaan was right in his own way after all and that would be a vindication for Armaan or rather a salve to his wounded ego even though for now he has to suffer those wounds. Just thought I would mention that. Dont know I have conveyed it right.

@ gina...yeah rahul is on that journey, but i doubt if he will ever meet his destination. there are some who refuse to see light and will grope forever...hold that torch of resentment till their dying day!

i hope rahul doesn't fall under that category and does see armaan for what he is. armaan himself seems to have experinced some growth. his speech to the accident victim sapna seemed very genuine, as did the one to gagan yday. and rahul needs to see that! but i do wonder why armaan chose to re-open some old wounds in rahul's case. was is simply because rahul was a tattle-tale????

Yeah that is the only reason I can think of why he should tease Rahul about it becos he sneaked on him and maybe just a bit of dude Armaan not being able to resist taking a dig, teasing him.
