Couldnt agree more with ya there.I think such a miscalculated judgement can leave one quite in doubt of oneself!And the insinuations well Armaan knows whose judgement is at fault there so he might not be working himself up too much abt that!

I guess , I am jus a tad bit uncomfortable using the word confidence and am seriously at a loss of a word to express, Armaan's sitution as I understand from our discussion yday, which made me see the other side of the discussion, that he is shaken from within, and mostly importantly... sapped off , his happiness... for hurt and dsiappointment can feed on the happiest of feelings rendering one... incapable of responding to feelings quick enough and perhaps a breath of fresh air will help seep in that happiness...

Yes Armaan the man has been challenged but on Rahul's egging.And the old Armaan would not have hesitated to take n the bet.Armaan the man bruised in love hesitated and then the man in him accepted the challenge to prove to himself that he is still the stud!

you cannot compartmentalise parts of your personality that easily. it isn't as if you can actually put theman, lover, the doctor, the son, the father into seperate boxes and expose only specific parts of you to specific emotions. and definitely not the part that loves. because that part will be all of you, else it isn't love at all. when you love, it is with complete involvement.

Hi nice discussion that. I guess at the risk of being repetitive and going slightly off tangent but cudnt help adding, that are we irked at someone who is popular becos somewhere we desire the attention and dont get it and therefore we are basically irked at ourselves for lacking those qualities and feel inadequate and just need an object to transfer those feeling on to since disliking oneself isnt pleasant. It is such an irrational feeling this dislike towards the one who is popular. I have felt that too personally. Sometimes the person or the group who is popular is very nice to you, they are not even aware of your existence or your anger towards them. It is ironic that Rahul had to ape Armaan and then he goes and tells off Armaan in front of his patient for telling him that looks do matter in this age for girls to get attracted to you. If Rahul felt looks werent important why did he go in for the makeover himself.

I agree he can hurt Armaan more deeply becos he knows him better.

Hey guys!! Can i butt in?? the feeling of jealousy towards sumone who apparently has it all is very commonly observed and arises mostly out of a feeling of inadequacy or incapability to compete. here, rahul has suffered from that feeling, i suspect not only towards armaan but a host of other factors as well. armaan on the other hand is comfortable with himself, has always won and as such even in cases where he does not win, he has the grace to cheer the winner (we have seen that earlier). the only exception in his case of course is the case of our dear riddz,who aided by her brainless condition and some sadistic creatives who revel in annihilating armaan's life, love, peace and general existence, has effectively destroyed a lot of his self esteem . and yet, i must say this, armaan is holding up much better than many lesser men would do in his situtatio...if he mopes its in private, he does not neglect his professional life, he does not forget to care for others whom he knows, he remains available for friends and retains the maturity to atleast attempt to resist immature challenges. if he finally does succumb and accept the challenge, its becoz he is a man and i do not know very many males who suffer a beating to their ego beyond a point. in fact, on that score too armaan has fared much better than many one sees on a daily basis. but as i had written in an earlier topic, armaan is too straightforward in many ways. he has used schemes to play pranks, but never to get into riddz's good books. on that front, he has always been straightforward and straight from the heart to a fault. he is unable to understand rahul's schemes and attempts, and even now he is fighting rahul openly. he needs to see what rahul is attempting and needs to protect against himself against that. there is no use in saying that why should he care about what riddz thinks anymore. he does care and so he needs to take account of htat...

i also agree that rahul is no kool dude...he is merely copying armaan and trying to beat him at his own game, thus proving that even he agrees that armaan is the best adn good enuff to be emulated. also, i do not see how armaan tuk his gf. it was his gf who was coming onto armaan. i guess peepl like rahul find rejection and defeat difficult to take and put the blame on someone else's acts or behaviour. it was easier for him to blame armaan rather than accept that he was not good enuff for that girl or htat girl liked armaan better or that girl's concepts were haywire....whew, long post...

hmmm....so u say the anger with the popular person (s) is just a transferred anger, not over the conceot or society's horrible standars, but the anger over yourself for being unable to fit? yeah, i guess, sometimes that is true!! particularly if u tru desperately to fit in and fail all the time...

as for rahul's makeover...guess we all now agree that he has no right to be preachy with armaan, cos he has himself become instrument for the propogation of the said evil!!!

@ Aarti: I guess a bit of both, the unrealistic standards set by society do come into play and also one's own perceived inadequacy for if you were comfortable with yourself why would bother to measure up to society standards. You would know better but I guess somewhere you would have to go through the realization of what it is you are comfortable with and what it is you want and during that process you would feel irked towards the popular person(s) and the set standards society imposes.

@ all...the subject of armaan's shaken sense of self, whether it is so or not, is now venturing into dangerously personal experiences.

i think its safest to put an end to the debate with respect for everybody's opinion and with the underlying assumption that how rejection affects an individual, how error in judgement is perceived by him/her, depends entirely on how comfortable the individual is in his own skin.

the extent of damage, the recovery and the time taken to recover all depend on the nature of the ego...the stronger it is, the more protected the id will be, the extent of damage lower and recovery time faster!!
