The hands struck twelve in the clock, the three people let out simultaneous sighs of boredom. One of them honed the couch, the television and the X-Box with his extraordinary virtual-gaming skills, while the other one was lost to the world with earphones plugged in her ears and her body swaying to the rhythm of the music as she lay on another couch. The last one sat next to the gaming champion, giving alternate menacing looks to the television screen and her cell-phone, which lightened with a new message every few seconds. This was how they would've spent the rest of the Sunday afternoon - lazily, had three cushions not landed on them with a perfect aim.
The trio was brought out of their respective activities given the abrupt attack. The X-Box controller, the I-pod and the cell-phone were all thrown at a side as they turned their heads to glare threateningly at the culprit. But the next second saw all of them turn back gingerly and settle in a row on the same couch with downcast heads.
Aakriti and Zaraa stood in front of the three with hands resting on their hips and an intimidating look covering their faces. The three people were quite a sight to see, but the duo had more important things at hand.
You guys might wanna have an intense look at the calendar. Just saying' Zaraa said as she took out a notepad and handed it to Aakriti.
Hmm, lemme see. Venue? Check. Decorations? Check. Food? Check. Invitations?' she looked up as she eyed Vini suspiciously.
Check' Vini bobbed up to give the answer as she sighed inwardly for having the invitations sent beforehand.
Cake?' Aakriti turned to Srishti, the mean strike never her eyes.
Done' Srishti muttered as Aakriti and Zara still looked at her warily.
Music?' Zara quipped.
Erm...' the room went silent and Karan looked at the two girls next to him, who seemed to no longer recognise him. The two girls at the bay glared, Karan immediately felt that the AC had stopped working seeing the rise in the temperature.
Music is all set, only I am desperately hoping everyone shall find it agreeable' he replied in nervousness and he knew the other two next to him had suddenly found their lost breath.
Aakriti and Zara looked at each other and nodded simultaneously, turn and walked towards the door. The trio had just let relief wash upon them at escaping narrowly, when Zara and Aakriti realized their folly and stared at each other in horror.
What about entertainment?' Zara looked back and the guilty faces said it all. Any party is incomplete without the entertainment factor. How could you forget the most important thing? We were so reluctant to let you handle that department, but you three wanted to make this a memorable day. And now, memorable is all the day will be. I won't be able to remove it from my memory even if Harry Potter himself comes and tries to use Obliviate on me. Oh God Oh God how could this happen to me?' Aakriti continued with her rants as she paced across the room with the speed of light.
Relax Aakriti. We still have another day to go. We'll think up of something so stop trying to give us all high BPs' Zara consoled her.
Just by the way, high BP is not some contagious disease for you to give it to someone' Karan tried to be funny without success as all he saw were angry faces.
'So, I think we have some ideas' Vini hesitated. She continued when she saw Zara nod. 'What do you think about a KaJen interview? Karan and Jennifer in one screen is more than enough to get her mind blown off' she finished with a cheer which went down the drain when she saw Aakriti's murderous glare.
'If you've lost your mind between the preparations, then let me remind you it is next to NOT POSSIBLE to get anywhere near KSG, let alone getting an interview of his with Jennifer' she scathed.
'I really like what you did there, Not Possible! Had you said Impossible we would've obviously refuted it with the same old line, so I admire the word play you did there. Infact I ouch...' Srishti yelped in pain as she rubbed her arm where Vini had pinched her. In return of the look that she gave Vini, she was rewarded with a mute abuse.
I think gift-wrapping Baldev and sending him through mail is a better option. I may not like him, but at least he'll be good entertainment' Karan suggested.
Excellent idea! Unless of course Veera follows him and pops up at our door. I swear to God I'll throttle you single handed if she murders my ears with her irritating voice' surprisingly, it wasn't Aakriti but Zara who'd been scared off by the idea.
Gradually, ideas kept coming up. Someone wanted to have Ranbir Kapoor over for a rock concert, which fell apart given how the guy couldn't sing to save his life. Someone suggested they bring up Shahrukh Khan as the Chief Guest, but the fact that their budget didn't meet the requirement had their faces fallen. Karan had to only utter the alphabets PC-DP when he felt all the cushions in the room land upon him.
I think the best entertainment we can give Mahua on her birthday is to maintain our silence, let her speak and just listen. The girl has enough to go on the whole day. I know it shall take us a huge effort to search our deepest core for the kind of strength this task requires, but we can all sacrifice one day of our peace of mind. After all, this is for Mahua' Zara finally suggested and everyone agreed with their mind full of doubts.
While everyone made an exit, all they could think of were shops which would be open at this time for them to buy stuff - stuff like earphones, anti-sleeping pills, pair of glasses which wouldn't reveal the truth if you close your eyes, etc etc etc.
All jokes apart, this is one of the happiest day for us. It's the birthday of one of the awesome-st friend in our list - Mahua/Mah KJ/Mah Jain/sjain, call her all you like.
Hey Mahua, we love you so so so much and this is such a big day for us. It is your birthday, but you obviously know that. What you don't know is the fact that this day is special for a number of people. And just to prove that, let me take you through this awesome roller-coaster ride.
