um.... i don't get it.. if armaaan rid are not EX bf/gf.. then what are they? :S no offense.. i mean.. they aren't current bf/gf.. right? they aren't fiance... they ARE each other's ex's.. i mean thats the only term that describes them :S and gf/bf is not an insulting term btw... infact i found, no offense meant, ur post to insult the relationship of gf/bfs... there are MANY boyfriends and girlfriends out there in today's contemporary world who would WILLINGLY give up their lives in trying to save each otherr... there are numerous such couples who would stay with each other while terrorists attack, take bullets, and what not... bf and gf are basically two people who LOVE each other, want to live with each other, but aren't married yet.. that's wht bf/gf is.. and boyfriends and girlfriends today go to all extent for each other .. many of them do TRULY LOVE each other, and many of them think of each other as their soulmates..
so then... i ask u... what's so derogatory abt calling AR ex bf/gf... they were bf/gf weren't they? they weren't JUST friends.. they were lovers... now i guess sid COULD have called armaan rid'z ex-lover.. .. but i think ex-lover is just some1 who loved the other person.. bf/gf r those who LOVE each other and commit to each other.. i think, that especially in today's contemporary world bf/gf go to all extents in expression of their love, i do think many of them truly love each other, and this being said, why shud calling AR ex-bf/gf be insulting them? :S infact, saying that means that may mean derogating all bf/gfs out there... becuz many of them would disagree with ur comment: such as:
In this day and age, when people fall in and out of love faster than they change their wardrobes,
^^ yes that is tru, but this doesn't mean that ppl have stopped loving.. this doesnt mean that all boyfriends and girlfriends out there r just with each other becuz they love trying hanging out with new guys and gals.. no...many of them TRULY love each other...just like AR...
but AR love story is way beyond a mere boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.
^^ again - if they weren't just bf/gf... what were they? :S
boyfriend means: a man who is the lover of a girl or young woman;
How many ex bf/gf take a bullet for their bf/gf?
How many ex bf/gf take a risk and stay with their love despite a terrorist threat in the hospital?
How many ex bf/gf stay with their bf/gf when there is a time bomb ticking to explode?
How many ex bf/gf go on hunger strike just to convince their parents of their love?
How many ex bf/gf are willing to commit suicide rather than marry someone else?
^ there r numerous such couples, liek i said above, who wud do such things for each other... and yet at the end of the day - they r gf/bf.. that's wht they r called... after marriage they become a married couple..however before marriage they r bf/gf... bf/gf does not impose any limit as to how much u can love the other person...
the reason sid's comment sounded insulting wasn't becuz of the term he used..it was becuz of the attitude our culture still holds to such terms... our elders still don't look with good eyes to such terms.. even though our culture has accustomed to them, their usage hasn't completely been accepted... our culture sees these terms as just two ppl playing around with each other - ppl who r players, going from one bf to another to another...and so that's how the creatives made it sound... it's all becuz of our culture's perception... however it got nothing to do with the term... becuz gf and bf's today (specially in western society - where this whole dating issue started on the first hand) are true lovers... infact gf and bf's who live more than a certain amount of time are called common law husband and wife... and bf/gf is a VERY respectable term in western society in today's world... and anyone in western society (sid is from houston after all:P) would call AR (and all such couples as AR) ex gf/bf... becuz again, that's wht they were.. he cud have called him her ex-fiance i guess,, but then i guess he just wanted to rub it in her face in a dramatic manner...so he used the bf term.. but he wasn't wrong.. they WERE bf/gf afterall...
