Gone are the days when serials would revolve around warring housewives and mothers-in-law, now it's all about possessive and domineering husbands. The best part is that the audience loves the new twist. So Dil Se Di Dua — Saubhagyavati Bhava has Karanvir Bohra playing an unpredictable husband. While the serial has just completed a month, it has already garnered good TRP ratings.
Matching up to the new trend is Sasural Genda Phool. The makers of this serial have decided to bring back the excessively possessive and slightly psychotic character of Abhishek, played by Amit Dolawat, as a full-fledged role and not a cameo, as was initially planned. "Yes, I am out of the jail I was sent to, but now my character will come out even stronger. I feel Abhishek is a genuine lover but has a psychotic side. He goes to an insane, inhuman level. He is over possessive and an aggressive towards his wife. Even though I don't relate to the character, I feel he is genuine and convinced about his actions," says Amit.
Ask about the new show and its rapid success, and the actor has a different stand. Amit says, "I have seen some episodes of the other show. I think my character is lot more layered. The show must be doing very well but the fact remains that a possessive husband is predictable. You know that he will beat up his wife. But when you talk about Abhishek, some people think he doing the right thing, while some feel sorry for him and that shows how fickle minded he is. Also, I believe that my character is a bit more youthful compared to the one from the other show."
Such is the popularity of the actor that, he states, the channel is considering him for yet another serial. While all this is still on paper, we hope to see it on screen soon.
