I see in many comments it's written that Gauri is a village girl so she is not modern, Gauri is a village girl so she will not think of self-respect, Gauri is a village girl so she is this and that. It's not true true every time that a village girl is not modern and they don't have self-respect. I have most of my relatives in village. I have a 11 year old female cousin who currently is my favourite cousin. She knows entire lyrics of many songs by heart no matter of being a kid she don't understand most of the words while I being a 24 year old can't remember any song lines till their 1st main para. My relatives and cousins visits beauty salons much more than me. There are many small town and village people who are more intelligent than us city people be it in academics or be it in other curricular activities. Gauri is not entirely a village girl. Bareilly is a city not village. Thakur thing and publicly stoning scenes seemeseemed fake to me as Bareilly is not some small village like Rampur or Seetapur. Coming to the topic, not all village girls are traditional. They too have dreams. Many celebrities are from small towns only. TV actress Hiba Nawab is from Bareilly only. So I found Gauri not at all traditional except her clothes. Which traditional girl of her age will dance outside the house even with children on loud music? Also, she knows english words properly. I think she studied in english medium in best school of Bareilly but after her dad's death, her uncle and aunt took her out from school and forced her to do household chores. I hope Gauri continues to be like this and not butchered by cvs like every female leads.

I used 'not modern' alluding to the fact that she has such strong religious belief and faith. Not regarding self-respect, but regarding the religious imagery and symbolism.

She believes in the signs that were given to her. The show promotes these religious sign and allusions.

She is no less or more for her dialogue than any other character or person thanking a deity, believing God will save them or did save them, or any of the other various credits given to a higher power in Indian soaps.

Funny you pointed that out. I am from a village, a very small one except that I had better opportunities than most people in my place lol. But that doesn't mean women like Gauri doesn't exist. Why, the woman who comes to work at our house has an abusive husband but she refuses to divorce him because marriage is sacred to her and her "Pati bhagwan hai"

I think it's not about Gauri being a village girl, it's about her being an uneducated woman who was raised in such a context where she was made to believe in the institution of marriage no matter what base it had. She is certainly not progressive if that's what you mean by modern. She believes that the man she had known for less than 24 hours is her salvation. It is kinda stupid and logicless but very much in tune with what she was taught.

P.S. Not am I saying having faith and religious in not modern. I am simply saying many people tend to not give that much weight to certain beliefs and signs and consider it outdated while being okay with other religious symbolis, signs, etc.
So hence, I used 'not modern'

Dude ur family and my family dont make 120 cr population .Suggest read minostry of women development report have a look .ppl in cities think this bis not happening because it doesnt happen here .As much you think stone pelting is fake it isnt ..Much of what we feel is not happening happens .India still has child marriage of more than 1 million people a month .Women still feel abuses are okay..Untouchability still exist .If a portion of people are modern doesnt mean entire society is..Yest I read a post where u said gauri should no about sexual talks amd stuff na she wont bec many ppl still dont it is a taboo..I live on outskirts of city technically a village which now has progressed but still see same mentality here girls cant were jeans ..They cant speak to boys infact my school was coed for name sake we were never allowed to talk to boys and yes my parents are modern but I hear day in day out from many ppl about how women should respect husband ..Have seen enough of both sides yes ppl are changing but not completely the submissive attitide remains still so gauri is still uneducated her attirude wont change bec if a big town girl Anika or Sowmya consider marriage gauri is still small town

These people are not in Bareily, but in the outskirts of Bariely (see the last episode of IB before DBO), so I assume that this is a village which is slowly getting into the jurisdiction of Bareily Municipality (happens whenever a city expands, the nearing villages become a part of it)

About Gauri studying in a good school, I doubt, as a class 5 student who is from an English medium school can tell the difference between "Sh" and "S", her vocal is actually a blunder (sometimes like a person who is ganwaar and sometimes like a person with good knowledge) probably since writers are themselves not sure about it

Anyhow coming to your topic, yes village girls are not ganwaar and without self respect, but then they are raised with a mindset that marriage is a divine thing, (forget about village, even in the metros girls are taught that marriage is a one time thing and try to protect your marriage even if it means you accepting a few false acquisitions ) and that is what the mindset of Gauri is, for her a man protecting her life and putting sindoor wasn't a small thing

And then why wouldn't she want to save a marriage which she feels is true and has been done with a person who she is knows is a good person who can protect him from the world and who is angry just because of a misconception, to be frank, he isn't even angry at Gauri, he is angry at the girl who he thinks Gauri is
