Does anyone know why sea lions are called sea lions? I did a quick google search and found nothing... other than "they are lions of the sea." đ
ETA: NM. I found it.
If you hear one before you see it, you'll understand how sea lions got their name. These mountainous marine mammals ' 8-foot, 1,000-pound males and 6-foot, 250-pound females ' can emit thundering roars.http:////www.sheddaquarium.org/2638.html
ETA 2:
I just went to youtube and watched a bunch of vids.
That don't sound like no lion. W*F? The only one that sounded similar... the video title said it was sea lions roaring, but I didn't see any sea lions... Just people on the boat... and maybe a glimpse of a sea lion in the distance, and there's no way to tell the sound came from the sea lions.
ETA 3: I guess it does sound kinda like a weak roar of a lion or a lion's growl. Yes, I watched a bunch of youtube videos of lions' growls and roars.
I could just edit this whole post, and most of you wouldn't even know of my craziness. But I think I want to keep a record of this. đ đ
