Hey, guys...I've been a silent member on this forum for a little while, but no more...đ...I had caught glimpses of the show on Imagine here in the US, and the first thing I noticed was HC & how different he looked from his two other shows...I read a bit about his character, Mohan, and was compelled to watch the show...in fact I watched three months of shows (more or less abbreviated) in abt two days...đ & yes,...Ahhh...Mohan...đ!
Since I haven't watched the show in sequence since the beginning, Mohan is a quick revelation to me...the young, hip, modern, ttly embracing 'Western' ideals, who wants to achieve by any means possible all that which has never been his...yeah, deceit and lies are a part of that...and yes, even a woman...
Peal back a layer, there's the Mohan who puts on a facade for the traditional society, for his family...the good kid, who went abroad, studied hard, came back with a MBA, got married to a cultured Gujarati girl..all to make his family, & community proud...not a vice in him...đ
Yet another layer reveals Mohan before the quest out West...I was FLOORED when I saw the scene where Mohan is getting ready to be 'smuggled' to the airport by his mom & uncle...he was scared, reverent of his parents...the Mohan who said, 'Jai Ambe, Papa' to the one who is now 'dad'. Whose look of fear and apprehension at all that was to come & all that he was leaving behind (including Baapji's wrath & taunts for his parents) was so apparent...
And today we had a Mohan who was finally starting to reveal one world to the other...to an apparent stranger...to someone he is just now forming a connection with...wife, friend, someone he is faintly attracted to...The man who is slowly stepping out of "out of sight', 'out of mind' when it comes to his wife...đłI loved Mohur's convo in the rickshaw...it was prbbly the most sincere effort on any actor's part in tellyland to show what this complex character was going through...yeah, he was inebriated, but the alcohol did something he would never have done otherwise...he let his wife glimpse into his ambition...& the pain behind it...
Hats off to HC...I've only caught bits & pieces of Kis Desh...& Tere Liye...but I'm absolutely riveted watching him as MG...what a consummate artist...same goes for Kastur aka Aasiya...
I am really looking forward to where we go from here on our journey with this wonderful couple...horrible '70s (or is it '80s? đ„±) lori incidents (or accidents) aside...not to mention this drinking & driving incident which I'm sure will be their own version of a Public Service Announcement...đđ„± I look forward to reading & commenting with you guys as time permits...đ
