When Sita was shown lifting and walking with the Shiv Dhanush in her hand, I think CV's wanted to convey something to us.

It was not to show that Sita Maiyya is a superwoman who is powerful.
No doubt our rubina is beautiful and graceful😉

I had a hidden meaning. Raja Janaka had decided that the person who lifts the dhanush would be Sita's husband which in this case is Ram.😃
The CV's conveyed to us that Sita is equally powerful and capable of lifting the Dhanush just like Ram.

So Ram and Sita are equals infact they are inseperable and made for each other.😃
They were destined to meet. They are a symbol of eternal love. 😃

Looking forward for Ram-Sita scenes. Rubina rocks👏

Good post, friend.
Yes, the CV's conveyed a very beautiful meaning that both Rama-Sita are equal.
Purusha is incomplete without Prakriti

I find this difficult to understand. If Sita had the strength to lift the Har Dhanu, how was she not able to fight off Ravana?

And there are some versions of Ramayan where even Ravana comes and has a go at the bow, but fails. So if this story is to highlight the fact the Sita had as much power as Rama, how could Ravana so easily kidnap her?

thats what i said above. it doesnt portray that sita is a superwoman.
it only signifies that ram and sita are a perfect match and suitable for each other.

and coming to sita haran. it was purva nirdharit event. it was supposed to happen so that ravan has a severe crime of kidnapping a married woman on his head which increased his sins to an extent that brought him closer to his death.

even a pativrata like mandodiri couldnt protect him then.

Varaali, I have read few interpretations where it was written that lifting this Shiv dhanush required a certain type of knowledge and skill. Parshuram was Shiv's disciple and had that knowledge. Despite his disliking of Kshatriyas, he liked King Janak who was very learned and was equal to Brahmins in knowledge. And he had a soft corner for Sita and so taught her to lift it. Ram of course was a disciple of Vishwamitra and had got knowledge of divine weapons from him. So that's why both Ram and Sita could lift it up as they had knowledge and in case of Ram he had enough strength to break it into two pieces too.
Raavan did not have knowledge of lifting Pinak even though he was quite a warrior. But Raavan was not the strongest warrior. He was defeated by both Bali (Sugreev's brother) and Sahastra-Arjun (Parshuram's nemesis). As a result, he befriended them to keep them on his side.
The physical strenght of Raavan and Sita was in no way equal and Sita did not have any weapons on hand when she stepped out of Lakshman Reka to give alms to Raavan.
I think here the purpose is to show that Sita was no shrinking wall flower, but was strong in her own way just as a princess who has been given freedom by her family would be.

Angie- your explanation about having some special knowledge to lift the Great Bow, makes a lot of sense. It's quite possible. After all, there are secrets in yogashastra which can enable people lift heavy weights.

Thanks.

Thank you Angie for so much of knowledge , as i am reading in other posts also , but will mention , it took me to CB days where there was so much to read about mythology . There are many books about Ramayana as it was not limited to only India . There are different versions . As for Ravan , i also have heard that as Ravan was going to lift the Bhanush at Sawamvar , there is some divine calling for him to go back otherwise e had the power to break the Dhanush . It was all predestined

Rishi, another great thread and agree with your observation / analysis and makes lot of sense.
Loved all comments, kalyani, varaali, Neerja and everyone's knowledge seems to be so accurate, given that growing up we learn and hear our parents tell us the meanings of our scriptures and so many different angles of huge number of characters in ramayan, here on dkdm, geeta, mahabharat, and how they are meant to be inculcated, followed and practiced in this era of kalyug, to minimize sufferings if not eliminate them.
Geeta for instance in the context of Lord Krishna-Arjun convo is so directly linked to our daily lives as far as our Karmas, past and present, and past lives, and the law of cause and effect.
Neerja, yes CB we used to have so in-depth discussions on mythology and that immediately brings up so many members to mind and how they used to pinpoint the mistakes that CVs used to make. That aspect of the CB forum was mindblowing.
Predestiny is something I believe in whole-heartedly cuz we believe we are in control of things and that belief becomes the cause of our sufferings, rather than have faith, genuine faith that there's divine reason behind everything that happens.

@Angie12 your observation makes real sense. its indeed possible that raja janaka sita would already know how to lift the dhanush since it was with them since several years and parashuram has taught them how to use it. and rama learnt it from vishwamitra.

this shows the importance of gurus in our life. a guide whether a spiritual leader, mother, dad, sibling or even a friend who could guide us is a must in life😃

thanks for the awesome piece of info.😃

Upto my knowledge ,Ravan had not failed in lifting dhanush .
He had the capability to lift but to unite Ram and Sita ,there was some bhavishya-vani from brahmlok about ill aspects of Ravan's sister due to which he left from yagya/swaymabar early .
As Bhavishyavani was wrong ,He came back also but before that Ram had broken dhanush already .

This was also one of the reason behind Ravan's wish to make sita ,his wife.
