Ayyappan manikandan (Malayalam: ??????????),(Tamil: ???????) (also called Sastavu, or Sasta) is a Hindu deity worshiped in a number of shrines across India. Ayyappan is believed to be an incarnation of Dharma Sasta, who is the offspring of Shiva and Vishnu (as Mohini, is the only female avatar of the God Vishnu) and is generally depicted in a yogic posture, wearing a jewel around his neck, hence named Manikandan. Ayyappan may bear a historical relationship to the tutelary deity Aiyanar in Tamil Nadu.[1]

The asura princess Mahishi was burning up with anger at the trick the gods had pulled on her brother, the asura king Mahishasura. As Mahishasura was blessed with invulnerability to all men, the gods had sent goddess Durga, to fight and kill him. Thus, Mahishi began performing a fearsome set of austerities, and pleased the creator god Brahma. She asked for the boon of invulnerability, but Brahma said it was not possible so Mahishi planned and asked invulnerability to all men except by the son of Shiva and Vishnu (Both are male & no possibility to give birth to any one). He granted her the boon of ruling the universe and being invulnerable except by the son of Shiva and Vishnu. Since such a person did not exist, she thought she was safe and began conquering and plundering the world.

The gods implored Shiva and Vishnu to save them from this catastrophe. Vishnu found a possible solution to the problem. When Vishnu had taken on the Kurma Avatar, he also had to manifest himself as Mohini, the enchantress, to save the nectar of immortality (ambrosia or amrit) from the demons who were not willing to share it with the gods. If he became Mohini again, then the female Mohini and the male Shiva could have the divine child who would combine their powers and beat Mahishi.

Some versions give a slightly more detailed version of the union of Shiva with Vishnu. One version tells that the asura Bhasmasura had so pleased Lord Shiva with his austerities that Shiva gave him a boon of anything he wished. So Bhasmasura asked for the ability to burn to ashes anything which he placed his hand over. No sooner had Shiva granted this, than Bhasmasura ran after the god, threatening to turn him to ashes.

Shiva called to Lord Vishnu for help. He hid himself in a peepal tree as Bhasmasura ran here and there searching for the god. Vishnu became aware of the events, and decided that he would take the female form Mohini, "the Enchanting", and try to trump the asura's powers. When Bhasmasura saw Vishnu in this form, he was bewitched by her beauty. He earnestly tried to court her. So Vishnu instructed Bhasmasura to hold his hand over his head, and vow fidelity. With this act, Bhasmasura was reduced to ashes.

Vishnu found Shiva and explained the whole affair to him. Shiva asked if he too could see Vishnu in this female form. When Vishnu appeared thus, Shiva was overcome with passion, and united with her. The two gods thus became "Harihara Murthi", that is a composite form of Shiva and Vishnu as one god.

From this union, Lord Sree Dharma Sastha was born. He combined in himself the powers of Vishnu and Shiva. Lord Ayyappan is an incarnation of Lord Sree Dharma Sastha and Lord Ayyappan is a visible embodiment of their essential identity. Sri Ayyappa belongs to Pandya Royal Community. He was the head of a clan. It is believed Sri Ayyappa merged to sri dharma sastha. Lord Vishnu gifted the new-born deity with a little bejeweled bell necklace, so this god is called Manikanthan Swamy. He is also called as Shasthappan by most South Indian communities.

Please show us "swami ayappa" story. it would be really awesome to see.😃 and it can be considered as a major track.

This is a story about Parvati's jealousy and insecurity. As you know, the river Ganga descended from Lord Shiva's matted hair. When it first came down from the Himalayas, it became entangled in Shiva's hair. Then it passed through his hair and became the Ganga.

During the time when the water was entangled in Shiva's matted hair, Shiva became very fond of the water. He gave it so much of his attention that his consort, Parvati, became terribly jealous.

"My husband spends all his time touching his hair," she said, "He does not care for me at all."

Parvati was consumed with jealousy, and she begged Shiva to somehow get rid of the water that was trapped in his hair. Shiva did not want to comply with her request. He enjoyed having the water in his hair.

Seeing that Parvati was utterly miserable, her son, Ganesha, felt sorry for her. "I cannot bear to see my mother so sad, depressed, morose and miserable," he said. "I have to do something."

Ganesha remembered a particular sage named Goutama. Once, during a famine, there was no food anywhere, either on earth or in Heaven. Only this sage had provisions, and so the cosmic gods came to his place to eat. They all loved him and adored him. Ganesha felt that this sage was the only one who could help him release the Ganga from his father's head and let it flow down onto the land. Ganesha decided to go and see the sage.

Before leaving, he approached one of his mother's assistants. Her name was Jaya. He said to her, "Please do me a favour." "Definitely," Jaya assured him. "I will do any favour you want."

Ganesha told her his plan: "I am going to the ashram of the sage Goutama, who kept provisions for the gods during the famine. You will kindly take the form of a cow. In the morning, when the sage takes his cows to graze, I would like you to destroy all the grain that is growing in the fields near his cottage. You must destroy all his fields of grain."

Ganesha went to see the sage and he was received with great kindness and hospitality. The sage was deeply honoured that a cosmic god had come to stay at his place.

The next morning, when the sage took his cows out to eat the grass, a strange cow came and started destroying all the fields of grain. The sage begged the cow not to destroy the grain, which was his main provision, but this cow was bent on destroying everything. The sage was unable to stop it.

Finally the sage took a single blade of grass and with it he touched the cow's body. The cow fell down and died then and there. Ganesha and others came running to the spot.

"You are a sage," cried Ganesha. "How could you kill a cow? It is the worst possible sin to kill a cow, especially because you are a Brahmin! You must pay the penalty for your misdeed!" The sage felt very sorry for his action and he said, "I want to make amends for this wrongful deed. I am willing to pay whatever penalty you suggest. Please tell me what I should do now!"

Ganesha said, "Invoke Lord Brahma. Whatever advice he gives you will be the best." The sage invoked Lord Brahma and Brahma came.

Now, Brahma knew how much Parvati was suffering due to Shiva's preoccupation with the Ganga in his hair. Brahma advised the sage, "If you want forgiveness for what you have done, then you must release the Ganga from Shiva's hair. Let the waters flow down to earth, and then you must take a bath in the river Ganga. If you can do this, you will be purified and all your sins will be washed away."

The sage listened to Brahma. He used his spiritual power to bring the water down to earth. When the Ganga was flowing properly, he bathed in it and became purified. Ganesha's plan worked.

Once the Ganga was no longer entangled in Shiva's hair, Parvati had Shiva all to herself again and she was filled with happiness.

i don't know if this can be shown regarding the whole mahadeva being shakti pati and loving her dearly.since dkdm cvs are master in twisting stories in good way of course,i think they can pull it off.😊

would be so glad if cvs can show this to us

According toHindu mythology,Adi Parashakti—the Goddess,Devi—is the Supreme Being and recognized asPara Brahman.[2]The Devi Bhagwata Mahapurana suggests that Adi Parashakti is the original creator, observer and destroyer of whole universe. Hence Adi Parashakti is Param Prakriti. Parvati, the goddess of power is considered as her Sagun Swaroop (human form). That is to say that Parvati is the truest material form of the Goddess, possessing the three qualities (Sattva, rajas, or tamas). However, ultimately the Goddess Adi Parashakti is also considered to be truly supreme spirit without form (Param Atman). She is the Great Goddess, and therefore the source of all other goddesses.

Etymology [edit]

Adi Parashakti means "The Eternally Limitless Power". That is, she is the Power beyond this universe. She is the active energy that both creates and dissolves the entire universe. The greatest difference between Shakti and Adi Parashakti is that Shakti can refer to the power of the trimurti or any other deity. In contrast, Adi parashakti is the Hindu deity referred to as the Power ofPara Brahman. Some sacred texts state that she is the goddessBhuvaneshvari, the fifth Mahavidya.

Importance [edit]

In the Devi Gita, it is suggested that before incarnating as Parvati, she appeared to King Himalaya and revealed divine, eternal knowledge to him. She explained herself, in the words of the Vedas, as having neither beginning nor end and as being neither male nor female. She is the only, eternal truth. The whole universe is her creation and she is nondifferent from Para Brahman. She is one without second. She is the only victor and the manifestation of victory itself. She is manifested (LordBrahma), transcendent (Lord Shiva) and unmanifested (LordVishnu) divinity. She then displayed her scarcely seen form to him: Satyaloka was located in her forehead; the created universe were her hairs; the sun and moon were her eyes; in her ears were the four directions; the Vedas were her words; death, affection and emotion were her teeth; maya was manifested by her smile.[3] This appearance revealed that all gods and goddesses, including the trimurti and tridevi, are merely her various forms.

Goddess Adi ParaShakthi is the Presiding Deity at theParashakthi Temple in Pontiac, USA

Role in creation[edit]

In Srimad Devi Bhagwat Purana's 1st book and 4th chapter. Devi ordered and instructed trimurti as below. I am Adi Parashakti, goddess Bhuvaneshvari. I am the owner of this universe. I am the Absolute Reality. I am dynamic in feminine form and static in masculine form. You are three parts of me. You all are my partial expansions. You have appeared to govern the universe under my jurisdiction. You are the masculine form of Absolute Reality, while I am the feminine form of that Reality. I am beyond form, beyond everything, and all the powers of God are contained within me. You will admit that I am the Eternally Limitless Power. I shall now assign each of you a task. She then commanded:Brahma! You will be generator of the universe; the Goddess Sharada is your Shakti, my form by which I will be recognized as the goddess of wisdom and the primeval sound. Lord Brahma, this goddess will be with you when you create the universe.

She continued: Lord of Lords, Narayana! You are the Supreme, Immortal Spirit. You are formless, yet you take form. I assign you to be the preserver of the universe. You will take a different incarnations in order to save this universe's inhabitants. Oh Narayana! You are the Supreme of all the deities with form. You have created Lord Brahma, and Brahma will further create thirty-three-thousand other gods and goddesses. My Great Power, goddess Mahakali, has been born from your mystic sleep. You are the Paramatman. Your consort will be goddess Shri, who is none other than the incarnation of my light, as without light, one can neither see nor be seen. When life evolves, you will take the form of Vishnu, the one who will perform the task of observing and preserving this universe.

At Last she instructed: Oh Lord Rudra, the Greatest God, you are the personification of time, which is above all. You will perform the task of destroying and regenerating this universe. When you are formless, time stands still. It is due to my power that you become dynamic and are capable of bringing about the destruction and regeneration of this universe. Your consort is goddess Mahakali, but due to meditation, you will be able to surpass all of my forms. It is then that I will incarnate from your left half in my manifested form. This form will be my truest manifested form. Lord Shiva, she will perform the task of destroying evil and will be your consort.

Aum Shakti is used to describe the name of the goddess when she is without attributes.

Adi Parashakti and Para Brahman [edit]

God or Para Brahman or Param Atman or Supreme Soul is inactive and totally static. It does not possess any attribute hence called as Nirguna. Being non attributable, But Energy is another phenomenon which dynamic and active aspect of God or we can say that Energy without dynamism is God. This Energy is Adi Parashakti. But when God gets activated using iccha shakti or First Energy Field. God becomes Adi Parashakti or Activated GOD. Energy, also does not possess any attribute because it is not associated with matter. But God's 1st Activated Form is Adi Parashakti. Hence Adi Parashakti is regarded as Energy or Non Attributed Active aspect of God.

Adi Parashakti or 1st Energy Field then creates Three Micro Matters i.e. Suksham Shareer, one from another. First Two Seeds were UnManifested i.e. Lord Vishnu as Base and Transcendent, which is required to transform i.e. Lord Shiva as Time and third is First Manifested Matter from UnManifested, which is required for creating further Macro Matter i.e. Sthool Shareer. Manny Puranas shows Brahma originating from Lord Vishnu's Naval. It is called trinity. Vishnu, the base, Shiva the Transformer and Brahma the Creator. She also brings motion and livable that each seed contains soul, which is part of Supreme Soul and herself as Kundalini Shakti. Kundalini shakti is actual source of energy in all beings.[4]

Adi Parashakti And Kundalini Shakti [edit]

As we all know that, God lies in all beings in both dynamic and inactive aspect. Inactive aspect of God is Supreme Soul and Active aspect of God is Adi Parashakti. In all living beings God's both activated and Inactivated form lies i.e. God is Omnipresent. As inactive form, God is there as Soul within us and in activated form God is there as Kundalini Shakti, which is epithet of Adi Parashakti.

Kundalini Shakti is basic source of energy in all Living Beings. It is basic source of all powers we use in daiy live. Meditating on kundalini, will bring not only fortune but also can control its emotions and maya.

Association with other deities [edit]

Association with Trimurti as original Self [edit]

In Devi Purana, It is written that when different sages were asking the great sage Suta, who have listened the Purana fromLord Krishna himself, that if all the puranas like Shiv Purana, Vishnu Puranas etc claims that if Trimuti are eternal and nobody is superior to them in this Brahmanda (World) and also that trinity is oneness and oneness is trinity then Please tell us who is Adi Parashakti, whom you are talking about? How she took birth? When she was born. please tell us!

Suta Said There is no one who can answer you this. SinceBrahma, Narada and other eternal sages are bewildered by these questions. Some people worship Lord Vishnu having all the powers and the one who is omnipresent. And some claiming Lord Shiva with half body of Parvati is supreme. InVedas it is written that worship of sun is the best. They name highest soul Surya as Paramatama. Others claiming that Lord Vishnu is actual expression of all the deities. The GreatBrahmins provide three proves called perception, inference, and verbal testimony. But some other Brahmins added 4th proof to them that is resemblance. Another intelligent pandit added fifth proof called circumstances, presumption, implication at last two authors added two more proves called Sakshi and Aitijya. But Vedanta said that Supreme Being and main source of Universe can not be analyzed through these proves. One should have sure reason to claim. All are claiming and repeating one name directly or indirectly i.e. Shakti or Energy. Who is actually omnipresent in all beings. Shakti is there in Highest "Vishnu" to lowest "Insect". We Worship because of energy, we walk because of shakti, we do all the activities because of shakti. So How can "Creation/Preservation/Destruction" be done without shakti. Shakti is required to get a soul into a body, Shakti is required to sustain soul to live, Shakti is required to destroy/release from a Body. Even if Kundalini Shakti be deprived from Lord Shivathen He will be a Corpse. [5]

Hence Adi Parashakti is Goddess, who is associated as mother of trimurti. Being the one as the only source to all kind of energy.

Association with Nava-Greh or Nine Planets as Material Shakti [edit]

Adi Shakti is regarded as the one who can control all the nine planets. She divides herself to Material Shakti i.e. Durga who splits herself to operate nine planets to maintain cosmic order, Vidya Shakti i.e. Kali as source for 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu and Maya Shakti, to delude the beings to illusion and also promotes the beings to Ultimate God. As Durga Shakti She is the one who splits herself to NavaDurga provides direction and energy to all planets.

    • Sun is Governed by Kushmanda Shakti.
    • Mahagauri operates Rahu.
    • Kaalratri governs Shani.
    • Ketu is governed by Goddess Sidhidhaatri.
    • Provider of Knowledge i.e. Bhrasapati is governed by Goddess Katyayini
    • Provider of All Fortunes i.e. Mangal is governed by Goddess Brahmacharini
    • The effect of moon is overcome by Goddess Shailputri
    • Budh Planet is governed by Goddess Skandmata
    • Shukra Planet is operated by Goddess Chandraghanta

By this contrast Goddess Adi Shakti controls Nava Greh. Worshipping the nine goddess in Navaratri or Nine nights of mataji, saves you from dangerous effects of planets.

Association with ten avatars of Lord Vishnu as Vidya Shakti [edit]

As told above, Adi Shakti has divided herself to Material Shakti (Durga or Parvati), Kali (Vidya Shakti) and Yog Maya (as Mayashakti). As Vidya Shakti she splits herself to 10 kinds of eternal knowledge also known as 10 Mahavidya. The ten goddesses are known as wisdom goddesses. As per tantras these ten goddesses are original source of ten incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

    • From Dhumavati, Lord Mastsya was incarnated
    • From BaglaMukhi, Lord Kurma was incarnated
    • From Bhairavi, Lord Varaha was incarnated
    • From Chinnamasta, Lord Narsingh was incarnated
    • From TripurSundari, Lord Vaamna was incarnated
    • from Matangi, Lord Parshurama was incarnated
    • From Tara, Lord Rama was incarnated
    • From Kali, Lord Krishna was incarnated
    • From Kamala, Lord Buddha was incarnated
    • From Bhuvaneshvari, Lord Kalki will be incarnated

The information is sourced from Sri Devi Bhagwata Mahapurana.[6]

Association with Beings (demi-gods, living beings and demons) as Maya Shakti [edit]

Goddess Adi Shakti lastly splits up as Maya, Mahamaya and Yogmaya. It is she who actually creates three kinds of Maya such that One subordinate another. In this respect, we have Yogmaya, Mahamaya and Maya.

YogMaya [edit]

She is the one who actually creates maya on gods and teach them what to do and what not to do so that they can be connected to ultimate God. She helped Lord Mahavishnu slay the demons Madhu and Kaitabha to save the world. Moreover, she is also the one that who takes Lord Vishnu to mystic Sleep hence called Yog Nindra of Lord Narayana. She was born from the eyes of Mahavishnu as YogMaya. It is required by yogis, sages and bhaktas so that they can be connected to GOD.

MahaMaya [edit]

She is the goddess that destroys the upfold of illusion. She is the one that creates and destroys maya. She is controlled by Yogmaya and hence subordinate to YogMaya and senior to Maya. She emerges as seven mothers to destroy evil forces of Shumbha and Nishumbha, Being Chamunda one of them. She is required to gain physical strength, health, satvik attributes and demotes Lust, anger, greed, affection and arrogance.

Maya [edit]

She is the one who delude from GOD and takes any being to the world of illusion. She promotes lust, greed, anger, hyper emotion and arrogance. It is assumed that in the Age of Kali Yug. Her effect is highest.[7]

Adi-Parashakti forms [edit]

  1. Parvati, Sati, or Durga is the original manifested formof Mother Adi-Parashakti. She is Adi- Parashakti herself. The Devi Gita declares her to be the greatest Goddess. Thus, She is considered the supreme Goddess and primary deity in Shaktism, occupying a place similar to Lord Krishna in Vaishnavism. Whatever deity one is worshiping, ultimately, they are worshiping her. She is every other goddess. She is GoddessLakshmi and Goddess Saraswati in her mild form; Goddess Kali and Goddess Chandi in her wrathful form.
  2. Mahasaraswati is the first partial expansion of Goddess Adi Parshakti. She represents the Sattva Guna and is theShakti of Lord Brahma. She is the goddess of wisdom, creation, and learning. She is the source of all of the arts. It is she who slew Sumbha and Nisumbha, who are symbols of ignorance. She was created from the body of Mother Parvati and is the embodiment of her hard work, spirituality and devotion. She is also known asAmbika Devi as per Durga Saptashati. She wears yellow clothes when she takes form. When she is without form, she becomes the Primordial Sound.
  3. Mahalakshmi is the second partial expansion of Goddess Adi Parshakti. She is the goddess of the material world and its preservation. She also brings good fortune and spiritual satisfaction. She is the Shaktiof Lord Narayana and is the bestower of all wealth and pleasure. She wears red Cloth. She was born from Goddess Parvati's mind and later took birth asKatyayani. She is also known as Chandi Devi as per Durga Saptashati. Mother Mahalakshmi is the primary deity of the Raja Guna. When she is formless, she becomes light.
  4. Mahakali is the third partial expansion of Goddess Adi Parshakti. She is the goddess of spiritual fulfillment as well as presiding over the destruction of the universe. She gives salvation to mankind. She is the Shakti of Lord Shiva. She helped Lord Mahavishnu slay the demonsMadhu and Kaitabha. She was born from the eyes of Mahavishnu as YogMaya. Mahakali is same as Yogmaya also known as Tamsi Devi as per Durga Saptashati. Mother Mahakali wears blue and presides over the tamas Guna. When she is formless, she becomes heat.

As per Shakta Mahabhagwata Purana,[8] Paramdevi Shakti or Goddess Adishakti is regarded as the supreme deity. She is originally asexual in nature, representing her as Kamamukta (free from sexual sins), but for her leela (play) or rather for the creation of the universe, She took feminine form. The logic behind this is the law of nature that is fertility, which only a female possess and henceforth, She took form of a female, so that, she could give birth to this universe. Then, She felt an equal need to establish an opposite gender, and henceforth, She created Mahapurusha (Shiva). He did hard penance for ages to get the brahm gyan (divine knowledge) or the eight siddhis. Shakti appeared out in the form of Siddhidhatri, and granted him the eight siddhis and also Ardhnareshwara roop for the creation of Universe. It is due to this reason that Devi AdiShakti is also called as Shivaradhya or one who is worshipped by Shiva. Ardhnareshwar roop comprises Purusha and Prakruti. They created the universe in this form. After the creation, the male and the female aspects got separated for further creation of life. Hence, Half of powers were with the male aspect i.e. Purusha, thus, making him Adi Purusha (of Adi Shakti) and the remaining half with the Prakriti, henceforth she came to be known as Material form of Adi Shakti (who 1st took birth as Sati and then Parvati). According to Devi Bhagwat Purana, Adishakti created Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma and then manifested in the form of the tridevi- Parvati, Lakshmi, Saraswati.
Kali alone incarnated as Sati, but after the demise of Sati, Adi Shakti i.e. Kali herself completely incarnated as Adi Parashakti in form of Parvati. Even though Maa Sati appears to be a submissive wife, she has forms which even terrify Shiva. When Shiva refused to let her go to Daksha's yagna, Maa Sati manifested in the form of the mahavidyas. Shiva was terrifyed and in whichever direction he ran, he found her standing there . Ultimately he had to give up and Maa Sati has her way. Such is the power of Adishakti. Still, Parvati could not inhert her adi shakti form into her fully, and henceforth, it is believed that she took rebirth as Matsya and Katyayini. Matsya rebirth was to acquire the skill of great concentraion and Katyayini [9] rebirth was to acquire her full divine form i.e. Nirguana roop of Adi Shakti. In this form, She famously came to be known asMahishasura Mardini and Durga for the great deed of killing the Demons Mahishasura and Durgam respectively.

Awesome thread! 👍🏼

Here are some stories that I would like to see (some of which have already been mentioned in this thread, but I thought I'd add them anyway to show my support for them!):

1) The story of Kamyakvan/Shaktivan and how the childless King Il of the Ikshvaku dynsty was blessed with a son.

2) Devi Kaushiki and the killing of Shumh and Nishumb.

3) The stories of all the remaining Jyotrilings that they haven't shown yet (I especially want to see the Mallikarjuna story) - and PLEASE stretch these stories out a tiny little bit and don't finish them in one episode each!

4) I would like to learn more about the other Rudra avtaars of Mahadev that they haven't mentioned yet (including Hanuman, who is the 11th Rudra avtaar).

5) Nahush becoming King of Swarg and his downfall after he goes after Devi Sachi.

6) The story of Andhakasur - I have a suggestion of how they could show this as they have already covered the life and death of his adopted father Hiranyaksh as a story told to little Ashoksundari. I suggest that after at some point after Jalandhar's death, Ganesh could ask Mahadev if there were ever any other Shivansh's out there, and then Mahadev could tell Ganesh the story of Andhakasur!
They could show it as an actual track and show it over several episodes but just to make it fit with the timeline of DKDM so far, they could start it by having Ganesh ask questions and Mahadev start telling him the story, but then show the track instead of having us listen to Mahadev tell the story - sort of like an extended flashback sequence.

7) The story if Ayappan - as they have already done the Bhasmasur story in the past, they could narrate the story of Mahadev-Mohini and Ayappan starting off as a story told to Ganesh but with the track shown as an extended flashback-type sequence, as I suggested for Andhakasur above.

8) Would really like to see the story of Meenakshi and Sundareshwar.

9) The story of Kanyakumari.

10) At some stage (this could be much later, but at some stage, please!), the marriages of Ganesh and Kartikeya.

11) Continuation of Ravan-related stories.

12) Other stories related to the Ramayan-era (including Hanuman, and the Bhimashankar Jyotriling) and Mahabharata-era, as have already been mentioned by others (it would be cool if these were shown in as much of a chronological order as possible.)

This is all I can think of at the moment!
