As per Durga Saptashati, Durgama fights with Mahishasur's Army first & kills them, then Mahishasur comes. Let's see how they show it in DKDM.

Mahishasur seems to come to capture Kartikey but as he sees his mother.. he tries to capture her too and there... He kills the people shown dead. I am not sure about the who exactly they are.. but they should be Dev Army or Shiv gans or the common ppl n pandits.

Oh, so Kartikey will be captured by Mahishasur, she takes the durga form to save her son. most likely this only may be shown. A perfect imaginary version. Not to take it seriously as the original story.
