Veer handed her his mobile, and said "Chal phone laga apni DS ko, aur apne aane ki khabar de, bohot khush hongi woh(call your DS and tell her the news, she'll be so happy)"

"Par main kaise'" Manyata was hesitant.

"par war kuch nahi, tu phone laga aur baat kar, kuch nahi hoga..(don't hesitate, just call her and speak)" he assured her.

At last with trembling fingers she dialed DS's number and within three rings the call was answered. There was no 'hello' from the other end, but she could hear the background noise and surely she hadn't got a wrong number.

"Daadi saab, maine aap se jo kaha jhoot kaha, mujhse galti ho gayi, ab main ghar aa rahi hoon, Veer mujhe chodne aaraha hai, hum dono thodi der me aajayenge(DS, whatever I said was a lie, I made a mistake, now im coming home, Veer would come to drop me off, we will be coming in a short time)" Manyata said in one breath and cut the call without waiting for an answer.

"kya kaha tumhari Daadi saab ne?" Veer asked.

"Pata nahi, unke kuch kehne se pehle maine phone kaat diya(before she could say anything I cut the call)" Manyata said. She was suddenly not sure about this.

What's the big deal? It isn't like I'm going to a prison or something'I'm going back home'Manyata tried to be cheerful about it but her emotions betrayed her. why did this dingy, cubby hole like place seemed so familiar like she had been here forever? It's not the place'it's the person who lives here..you idiot..the same person whom you were about to kiss'A small voice whispered inside her. so what? We both are young and this was just a near kiss nothing more'get it? She silenced it.

Veer was taking too much time to get ready and Manyata got tired of waiting. "Veer mujhe aisa lag raha hai ki aaj main nahi, tum apne ghar lout kar jaarahe ho; Koi itni der lagata hai tayyar hone me'tum toh ladkiyon se bhi zyada waqt le rahe ho..jaldi karo(Veer looks like it's you who's going back home, not me..How much time are you taking? you are worse than a girl, Make it fast) " she hollered from the hall.

Veer ignored her; though he was sad that he had to let her go, he was equally excited about seeing a 'rajmahal'. He had never seen one except in movies. He dressed in an age old suit that once had belonged to his foster father.

At last he was ready and when he came out Manyata saw him and suppressed her laughter with great difficulty. How innocent he is'thought she. Even in that ridiculous outfit he looked like a model any girl would drool for.

They set out in a cab towards Manyata's place. Manyata had no clothes to wear except Veer's mothers, so she was wearing a saree again and both looked older than their age. The cabbie took them to be a newly married couple and giggled to himself. What a lovely couple'surely a match made in heaven'Like two pieces of a puzzle fit together. He thought. But there was a very evident pain in their eyes, he didn't know why they looked so upset yet so happy'

"rabba inhe kabhi ek dusre se juda na karna(god, don't separate them ever)" he said a silent prayer to god.

Atlast they reached their destination and when they got down the cabbie couldn't top himself from saying "tum dono ki Jodi rab hamesha salamat rakhe(may god keep you always together)" Manyata blushed and Veer got offended. Before anyone could tell him the truth, the cabbie left.

As they entered the Rajmahal, reporters crowded them like swarm of bees.

"Rajkumari ji aagayi!" they exclaimed in unison.

There wasn't even space to move forward. One of them was saying to the camera "aaj Devgarh ki Rajkumari Newyork se wapas aagayi woh bhi apne pati ke saath(Today Devgarh's princess has returned from Newyork along with her husband)"

"Pati!" Manyata exclaimed. What the hell was happening? Who gave this false information to press! Oh my gosh! Daadi saab how could you do this to me! She thought.

Then a beaming Jainandini came forward with a pooja thali in her hand. She circled the thali in front of Manyata's face as if in welcoming gesture and handed it over to a maid. "Jiji aap aagayi, woh bhi jijusa ko lekar'hum bohot khush hain jiji..aayiye press ko yeh khush khabri dete hain(Sister, you're here! That too with Brother-in-law! Im so happy..come lets give this news to the press)" she sounded so enthusiastic. Too over the top. Did DS tell everyone in the family about this? Then why hadn't her mom or dad come out to receive her? J acted as a spokesperson for her and the press crowded around her.

"Manyata, yeh ho kya raha hai? Kya bol rahe hai yeh log(whats happening, what are they saying)?" Veer asked her in confusion.

"mujhe kuch samajh nahi aaraha hai Veer, pata nahi DS ne aisa kyon kiya mere saath(I don't understand, why did DS do this to me)" Manyata was feeling helpless.

J was feeling very proud of herself and the success of her plan. 'If I hadn't overheard Akash and DS's conversation that day, this wouldn't be possible'' thought she.

She had contacted Akash and they had formed for a partnership. To J's good luck or rather Manyata's bad luck it was J who had answered Mrinalini devi's phone when Manyata had called in the morning. Only Manyata hadn't realized it. Within 5 minutes of the call she and Akash came up with a plan to throw more muck on already stained reputation of 'Rajkumari Manyata'

Accordingly Akash made an anonymous call to a reporter and told him that the princess was coming back with her husband.

"Rajkumari ji kya aap hume batayengi, itne saal yuvraj Udayveer kahan the? Aur unhe saamne aane me itni der kyon lagi(could you tell us where was the Prince for so many years? And why he took so long to come out in open) ?" one female reporter said.

" Yuvraj Udayveer singh, hume batayiye ki itne saal aap apni patni se aur apni riyasat se dur kyon rahe(please tell us, why did you leave your kingdom and your wife all alone for so many years)? Someone directed a question at Veer.

"woh aap log galat samajh rahe hai, yeh toh-" Manyata's words were cut off when J said "Ab aap log yahan se jaayiye, humari jiji aur jiju ko aaram ki zaroorat hai'..shaam ko press conference me yeh log aap ke saare sawalon ka jawaab denge(you all can leave now, my sister and bro-in-law are tired, you'll get all your answers in the press conference scheduled in the evening)" she smiled an overtly bright smile.

Veer looked too uncomfortable and Manyata was fuming with anger. Soon they were left alone with J.

Manyata caught hold of J's arm and asked her "yeh sab kya tha? DS ne kya kaha tujhse? Jhooti khabar kyon di tune press ko? Bata mujhe?(What was all this? Why did you lie to the press? What did DS tell you?)" She directed a barrage of questions at J in anger.

J smirked in an evil way and said "uffo Jiji, abhi abhi toh aayi ho aur itna gussa, aur yeh kya jijusaa ko ghar nahi dikhana? Chaliye andar chalte hain(you have arrived just now and already so angry'not done; come lets show Bro-in-law around the house) "

Manyata felt like strangling her neck. "J, natak band kar..yeh Veer hai mera dost; jijusa mat bol ise(J, stop the farce at once, Veer is my friend, stop calling him brother-in-law!) " she said.

"natak, main natak kar rahi hoon? Jo tumne mere saath bachpan se kiya woh sab kya tha? Har cheez me Manyata, Manyata'kabhi bhi Jainandini nahi'jo phone tumne subah kiya tha tumhe kya laga woh DS thi? Nahi it was me'I heard everything you said. And I would do everything to make sure that you suffer'(Oh I'm acting indeed! And what you did since childhood doesn't count? It was always Manyata and only Manyata in everything and never Jainandini..the person whom you spoke to over the phone was me, not DS!)" J said in anger.

Manyata held Veer's hand and said "Veer, yeh jo kuch bhi hua uske liye main bohot sharminda hoon'par yeh natak hume thode aur waqt ke liye jaari rakhna hoga, kya tum isme mera saath doge(Veer we have to keep this act going on for few more days, im really sorry about that; would you please help me)?"

Veer silently looked at her face for a long moment and said "Nahi"

Manyata felt like ground was going to sink beneath her feet.
