At that Agastya said "oh my love, ab yeh sharam waram chodo, come on, its 21^st century babes! Tum Agastya ki fiance ho, agastya the great industrialist, now come and join us for breakfast"

Uday felt like someone had slapped him across the face. Here he was building dreams of spending the future with Manyata and she was already engaged to be married! Blasphemy! Uday choked on the food and started coughing. Manyata rushed to his aid "Kya hua Uday? Lo pani peelo" she said offering him a glass of water.

"No, im fine, Thank you for your concern," Uday said to Manyata with thick sarcasm in his voice.

He left the breakfast halfway and got up to leave. "Uday, khana adhoora chodkar kahan jaarahe ho?" Manyata said.

"Mujhe bhook nahi hai, you enjoy with your fiance" Said Uday stressing on the word 'fiance'

Manyata unwillingly sat down because she didn't want to hear one more lecture from Mona about 'table manners and ettiquettes'. She had a feeling that Uday was upset about something. And oh yeah how did Agastya come here? And Uday seems to be familiar with him. She decided that after breakfast she would definitely check what was bothering Uday.

On the other hand Agastya was silently observing Manyata's behavior since she had arrived at the break fast table. When he called out her name, she had turned pale like she was caught while commiting a crime. And then when Uday gagged on his food she was a bit too much concerned. Then Uday's suddenly leaving the food, surely something was up and he would find out.

Uday reached his room and banged the door. He felt he would murder anyone who came in his path. He had kept his temper in check with great difficulty at the dining table. He had done the very thing he had vowed never to do in life. He had stupidly lost his heart to a girl who didn't care an ounce about his feelings. Damn! He shouldn't have fallen for her 'im-so-helpless' act. Uday smashed the flower vase on his table. It hit the floor with a bang and broke into pieces. He had done the biggest blunder of life by falling for her. 'Fool! Loser!' his reflection in the mirror screamed at him. all her promises, all that friendship was an act. How could she?

Somewhere his rational mind was telling him to give her a chance for explaination. But Uday ignored it. Damn her!

He heard Manyata's voice at the door calling out to him, "Uday, darwaza kholo, I want to talk to you"

Uday didn't want to see her face ever again. "Go away" he told her. He hadn't locked the door and Manyata pushed it open and got in. She was horrified to see the gash on his hand. There was blood on the floor. "Uday, yeh kya kiya tumne? Kis baat par itna gussa ho tum? Manyata asked.

"Im not answerable to you, so just leave!" Uday replied.

"Uday, shaant ho jao, main abhi first aid kit lekar aati hoon" Manyata said.

"Miss Manyata Mehta, aap ki jhooti humdardi aur fake concern ki zaroorat nahi hai ab mujhe, so kindly leave me alone" he told her.

"What do you mean by jhooti Hamdardi, meri dosti tumhe jhooti lagti hai?" Manyata was offended.

"haan jhooti ho tum, dhokha diya tumne mujhe, apni sagai wali baat chupa kar, aur woh sab dosti ek dhong(facade) thi, ab tum jaakar yeh natak Agastya par aazmao, just get the hell of out of my room and my life..dammit!" Uday screamed. Thankfully his room was far away from Mona's room and she couldn't over hear.

Tears welled up in Manyata's eyes and flowed out on her cheeks. "Agar tumhe mujh par itna bhi bharosa nahi hai toh theek hai Uday, main chalti hoon, and for your information maine tumhe koi dhokha nahi diya, I-" he didn't let her complete the sentence.

"Just go, mujhe kuch nahi sun na" he said out of irritation. Eternal damnation! Her tears still caused a tug in his heart'he wished to reach out and wipe them. But she had played with his heart and broken it to pieces just like the flower Vase. His stupid heart was still aching for her. Manyata left with a sad look on her face.

She reached her room and opened her only companion left in the world, the diary. Her tears wouldn't stop. She had totally forgotten that she was 'engaged' after coming here. Her day began with Uday and ended with him ever since she came to garhwal. Mom only if you were here! Why did you have to leave so soon..She thought, clamping her lips together to stop the cry that was trying to break out. The next entry was on 10^th March 1991

"Dear diary,

Im gonna burst out of happiness, pata hai kyon? Kyon ki mera pati itna khayal rakhta hai mera'kismatwalon ko aisa husband milta hai, im so deeply, madly in love with him,"

14^th March 1991

"Diary,

Today was the first month anniversary of our wedding..and guess what my darling husband loaded me with gifts and said he'll make every anniversary special just like this one,

Par ek chinta sata rahi hai mujhe, aaj ek maheena ho gaya aur ab tak Mona ka kuch pata nahi, Dad ne use ghar se nikala aur woh chali gayi, don't know where is she"

There was a knock on the door and Manyata carefully hid the diary under her bed this time. When she opened Mona maasi stood there, with the same grouchy look on her face. "Agastya is waiting for you down stairs, abhi neeche ajao" Mona told her.

When Manyata came down Agastya was dressed like he was going for a cocktail party. There were injury marks all over his face and it was swollen too. "Manyata yeh kaisa gaon hai tumhara? Jahil gawar, junglee log hai yahaan sabke sab, main toh rasta bhatak gaya par tumhare Uday ne bachaliya mujhe" Agastya told her. She winced at the way he said 'tumhara Uday'. Was he mocking her'

"im so bored'pata nahi yahaan kaise rehte hai sab..chalo Manyata long drive par chalte hai," Agastya pulled her hand.

"Nahi aap jaayiye, mera mood nahi hai" Manyata said.

"Manyata! Mood kaise nahi hai'Ek patni ko apne pati ki har baat maan ni padti hai, woh uska dharm hota hai, now go and get ready, quick'" Mona said standing behind Agastya.

"par maasi, main Agastya ji ki patni nahi hoon, sirf mangethar hoon" said Manyata surprising both Mona and herself.

Manyata had never behaved this way before, she never had the guts to protest Mona maasi. But few days with Uday(!) and she was changed. She was so proud of herself.

"bohot chalne lagi hai teri zaban, haan, zyada udegi na toh muh ke bal giregi samjhi, ab jo kaha woh kar" Mona maasi came forward and tweaked her ears.

Manyata wished the earth would open up and swallow her. Her happy cocoon had burst within moments. Would she ever be free from Mona maasi's torture? Will Uday ever forgive her? May be not. She dressed in the first thing that came to her hand and went to the place Agastya's driver had parked the car in the morning.

Aninditha had a call from her informer giving her the daily information about Uday and his activities. He had sent one of his men to work at the ranch to keep an eye on Uday. "Madam, aap ka target aaj kal ek ladki ke saath bohot ghoom raha hai, aur woh ladki uske saath ek hi ghar me rehti hai" he had told her yesterday. Anindita was even more furious at this. The guy who told her she wasn't good enough for him, going around with some other woman! No! She would go to his ranch and see for herself. For now she had to call her brother. She picked her cell.

There was a silent observer to all that happened in the house in the morning. Giriraj's room was the opposite of Uday's room and he could clearly hear what went on inside. He had heard the breaking of the glass and also all the accusations Uday hurled at Manyata. Giriraj didn't intervene between them because he knew about Uday's temper. Now that sometime had passed and Manyata wasn't in sight to provoke him again, Giri went to check on Uday.

Uday sat holding his head in both the hands.one of his hands was bandaged. He raised his head at the sound of door opening. "baba..kuch chahiye tha aap ko?" he asked Giriraj.

"Beta, aaj jo hua tumhare kamre me, maine sab sun liya, tumhe us par aisa ilzaam nahi lagana chahiye tha" Giri said.

"Baba aap ko shayad poori baat nahi maloom, she's cheated me..jab uski sagai ho chuki thi toh phir'" Uday trailed off.

"Uday, mujhe sab pata hai, neeche jo hua woh sab mujhe Daima ne bataya, tumne jo kiya woh galat tha beta" Giri said.

"Par Baba'" Uday couldn't argue.

"Tumhe sach me lagta hai Manyata tumhe dhokha degi? Apne dil se poocho' Kya uski aankhon me tumne kabhi jhoot dekha hai, nahi na? Giriraj said in Manyata's defence.

"Lekin woh dhokebaaz nahi hai toh usne mujhse apni sagai wali itni badi baat kyon chupai baba? Kaise bharosa karoon uspar? Manta hoon is tarah us par chillana nahi chahiye tha.." Uday felt a tinge of regret for his behavior.

"Shayad use batane ka mauka hi nahi mila, aur woh tumhe kyon batayegi? Tum lagte kya ho uske? Yeh majra kya hai batao mujhe? Why are you feeling hurt?" Giriraj asked him.

"Baba..woh main usse..woh" Uday couldn't openly say it. One look at Uday's tear stricken face and Giriraj understood that the fire of love had been ignited in his dear son's heart.

"Pyar karte ho usse? Toh phir sharmao mat, seedhe jaake usse kehdo..der mat karo" Said Giri

"Lekin Baba ek toh uski sagai ho chuki hai, doosra mujhe pata bhi nahi woh mujhse pyar karti bhi hai ya nahi; us par maine aisa bartav (behave) kiya uske saath'kya woh meri baat sunegi?" Uday thought aloud.

"Kyon nahi sunegi'ek aurat ka dil bohot bada hota hai aur nazuk (fragile) bhi, badi aasani se toot (Break) sakta hai'ab tumne uska dil toda hai toh jodna bhi tumhe padega..jao maafi maanglo usse" Giriraj said

"Baba maine der toh nahi kardi na, woh meri baat sunegi na?" Uday still had doubts.

"oye, dil wale apni dulhaniya ko uthakar le jaate hai, jaldi jaa tu bhi" Giri said giving a hug to Uday.

Uday ran like he had never run in his life before. He had done a major damage and it had to be corrected before it got worse.

When he went down searching for Manyata, he was told Agastya and she went on a long drive. What he had to tell her couldn't wait; it had to be said now. It was now or never. So he decided he would follow them. A horse would be the best bet he thought and selected his prize winning stallion, 'Sultan' yes the same one which he had used to scare Manyata' it seemed like ages ago when he wanted her to leave garhwal and go back. Alas! Was it only 15 days ago! Well now his life rested in her and if she said 'no' he didn't know what he would do. Remain bacheolor whole life may be. He threw the thought out of mind and led the horse on the trail left by tyre marks on the mud road.

Manyata sat in the seat besides the driver's. Agastya as usual blabbered something about his business and started driving at a break neck speed. Manyata was alarmed. "Agastya ji, please dheere chalaiye, please" Manyata requested.

"Don't worry, kuch nahi hoga..its a Merc, bail gadi nahi hai, its built for speed babes" Agastya said in a careless manner.

"yeh gaon ka road hai, F1 ki track nahi, hum long drive par hai, race me nahi, stop the car please" Manyata pleaded.

Agastya looked at her in shock. Was this girl the same one he had got engaged to? Where did she learn to speak so much! But his anger got flared and he didn't stop. Manyata had a feeling that very soon they both were gonna crash into a tree and die a painful death if he continued. Then she spotted some movement in the side mirror. Some one was approaching on a horse. Uday! Her Uday! Her prince charming, that too on a horse! But then he could be going somewhere else..why would he come for her when he believed she was a cheat'she felt sad.

Agastya had spotted him too and his suspicions about Manyata and Uday were almost confirmed now. Uday was almost near and Agastya's wicked nature kicked in. He increased the speed to maximum so that Uday would fall behind. Uday was no less and he made his horse run even faster. Finally, in the race between man and animal, Agastya failed to see a huge tree in their way and rammed the car headlong into it as Manyata had thought. The impact of the crash was not much as it was an SUV and the airbags saved them.

Manyata crept out of the broken door and went runningly into the waiting arms of Uday. But then she stopped herself. He was angry, how could she forget. But the next words of Uday surprised her. "Pari, tum theek toh ho na? tumhe kahin chot toh nahi lagi? Dikhao mujhe.." he checked her for any injuries. Did she hurt her ears in the crash or had Uday really called her 'Pari'?

After making sure she wasn't hurt, Uday pressed her to his chest out of relief. She gladly hugged him back forgetting Agastya who was still in the car. He wasn't hurt either.

"Manyata! Tumhari itni himmat!" she heard agastya roar like an angry beast. He got out and shot a murderous look towards both of them. "Tujhe toh main choodonga nahi" Agastya raised a fist towards Uday like he was gonna punch him. Then Manyata had a naughty idea and said to Uday "follow me" she went and climbed on the horse standing by the road needing no help now. After 5 seconds Uday understood. He sat behind her and they went off leaving a fuming Agastya with his priceless possession.

As the horse raced Manyata felt a sense of calm. Like her world which had turned upside down was restored to its position. Then Uday asked her to stop the horse. They had moved far too ahead now and Agastya couldn't follow them on foot.

She stopped and both got down. As she looked in curiosity, Uday kept both his hands on her shoulders and looked straight into her eyes. Aww..she felt too shy to look at him like that and lowered her eye lids.

"Manyata, aaj maine tumhare saath jaisa bartav kiya, woh bohot galat tha, main tahe dil se uske liye tumse maafi maangta hoon, kya tum mujhe maaf karogi?" Uday asked her.

She was just about to say something he continued. "aur mujhe yeh nahi kehna chahiye tha ki tumne sagai ki baat chupakar galti ki, I understand that you love Agastya and im just your friend, im so sorry"

"Lekin Uday-", he cut in again, " tumhe is baat ka bhi bura lag raha hoga ki hum Agastya ko aise akela chod kar aagaye, chalo wapas chalte hai, bechara!" he faked a sympathetic expression enjoying her predicament. One, two, three, four! Now the truth is gonna come out!

He laid a hand on the horse like he really was thinking to go back to Agastya to help him out. Manyata had had enough by now. Did he really believe she was in love with Agastya!

"You idiot! Ek toh tumne mujhe bolne ka mauka nahi diya, upar se maafi maangi aur ab sochte ho ki main us Bandar se pyar karti hoon, ab use wapas lene bhi jaarahe ho! You fool! main usse nahi tumse pyar karti hoon! Ullu kahin ke!" Manyata shouted at the top of her voice.

Oops oops major oops! Oh oh oh!

Uday let out a cry of victory, worthy of any warrior and jumped in the air.
