Chapter 17
Anger coursed through his veins like a corrosive poison that had travelled through his skin into his bloodstream. He felt betrayed, used and thrown away like a dog's chew toy. The throbbing in his head wouldn't let him forget the scene that had occurred in front of his eyes even if he wanted to. But Udayveer didn't want to. He didn't want to hide from the pain, he wanted to live it. His love had made a mockery out of his emotions. The emotions that were the truest and purest of feelings that he had felt in an immensely long time.
No problem Manyata, I have no problem going back to that same ruthless cold-hearted Udayveer that had become only a distant memory. It was time for him to regain his true identity. The identity of a cold and calculative schemer who achieved every which possession he put his eyes on. And this time, her betrayal will be his most destructive weapon.
He closed his eyes and instantly forced himself to remember him standing, waiting at the venue, decorated with candles, with the peaceful sound of waves crashing on the shore, awaiting his Princess.
He opened his eyes and the scene immediately changed to the one he had witnessed just minutes ago. He didn't need the darkness of his eye lids to see it. His Princess, his Manyata, was once again in the arms of that bloody Ranvijay... immersed in him while he had spent hours waiting for her.
"Uday..."
Udayveer turned to see Manyata, the root of all his ills.
Manyata was shocked and barely got a second to react before Uday had pushed her against his jeep. The same jeep that they had drove to on their first date, the day of Manyata's horrid encounter with Ranvijay...the irony...
"Uday at least let me talk-" Manyata started to say, but Uday just pushed her back and pinned her wrists against the vehicle. Manyata could see the anger evident in his eyes and forced herself to stay calm. There was something different in his eyes today that was making every inch of her body fear him and the strength with which he was holding onto her.
"Why Manyata? Why!?" Uday demanded in a rough voice.
"Uday you're hurting me!" Manyata shouted at him in anger and a tear slid through her eye and down her face, capturing the attention of Uday.
Manyata was sure that this was just a bad dream and soon Uday would kiss her tears away.
Udayveer leaned his face in, mere centimetres away from Manyata and blew the tear away like you blow the dust off a prized possession.
"You gotta think of something better Manyata. These crocodile tears of your aren't going to disarm me Princess," Uday said in a mocking voice putting extra emphasis on the last word.
"Uday what has gotten into you!" Manyata asked trying to release her wrist with her one free hand, further aggravating Uday. He let go of her and opened the door of his jeep.
Within seconds, Manyata felt her feet rise from the ground and she found herself holding onto Uday's shoulder as he picked her up in his arms and then thrust her down on the front seat of his jeep.
"Uday yeh saab kya hai!?" Manyata demanded but he didn't bother giving her a reply and before Manyata could think of getting out had sat on his side of the jeep and started to drive.
"Uday what are you doing!? Where are we going!?" Manyata asked but Uday ignored her and instead Manyata was pushed back and she held the edge of her seat as Uday started to drive the jeep in full speed.
More than the speed, Manyata was scared at the look on Uday's face. The look of a wounded tiger ready to pounce any second at anyone who dared to come in its vicinity. His eyes were glued on the road, but Manyata knew that they weren't at all concentrating on the path but instead trying to forget painful memories.
"Uday slow down! Please, stop the car!" Manyata continued to scream but Uday only speeded up everytime she opened her mouth to say anything. Her hair was whipping her face as the cold wind came crashing into her, blurring her vision and causing her to become teary-eyed.
"Uday, kya ho gaya hai tumhe?!" Manyata shouted but dared not touch him for she knew that she could unleash worse. The only thing that gave her solace was that they were surrounded by a jungle on either side and the road seemed to be desolated. That was until Manyata saw a deer run across the road right in front of their car. They were going to crash into it!
"UDAY!" Manyata screamed and grasped his arm.
The jeep came to a screeching halt, missing the deer by a fraction of a second and Manyata breathed a sigh of relief. She turned to face Uday who seemed unbothered.
"Pagal ho gaye ho tum!" Manyata shouted shaking him by the shoulder.
"Haan Manyata pagal kardiye hai tumne humko! Achi khaasi apni zindagi jee rahe the aur phir tumne aake sab kuch barbaad kardiya! Sab kuch!" Udayveer threw his words venomously at Manyata.
"I wish I never met you Manyata! I wish that you never returned from your bloody Chawl!"
"I can't believe that until yesterday the Yuvraaj Udayveer Singh who had never known the taste of defeat, let everything go for a selfish cheating so-called Princess! I can't believe I believed in you!"
Hearing his words, Manyata felt like her world was ending...like everything was melting down in front of her eyes, her dreams, her aspirations, her reason of existence. His words pierced her heart like needles and it felt like someone was crushing her with a burden that was making it difficult for her to breath.
Manyata opened the door of his jeep and rushed to get out of the jeep before she lost control over the overwhelming pain and broke down in front of him. She ran down the desolated road alone, on the path from which they had been coming from.
Manyata felt incredibly hurt and before she knew it, her feet had carried her in the jungle, looking for a tree for shelter, to sit under and cry her heart out. She found one not too far from the main road and collapsed, bursting into tears. Is this what people called heartbreak? Manyata wondered.
Flashback
"Ranvijay!" Manyata gasped as she saw him sprawled back on the sofa, empty bottles of alcohol dropped all over the floor. He looked weak and sunken, like he hadn't slept or eaten properly for days. She felt her vision blur and fresh tears roll down her eyes at seeing his state. The state that she had caused. She frantically shook his shoulders calling out his name, and he finally opened his eyes.
"Manyata?" Ranvaijay called out her name weakly, causing something to break inside her.
"I'm so sorry Ranvaijy...I'm so sorry!" Manyata couldn't stop herself from hugging him and she held onto him patting his back hoping to ease some of his pain. She couldn't put it in words, how much it hurt her to see someone suffering that much pain, all because of her! She too felt tears slide down her eyes and she quickly wiped them, preparing herself for her next step. Ranvijay needed to know the full truth. He needed to move on from her.
But before Manyata could utter a single word, she heard the sound of someone clapping their hands together. Manyata quickly split apart from Ranvijay and was shocked to see Uday standing at the doorstep, with a look of murder in his eyes. She quickly stood up.
"Uday jaise tum samajh rahe ho aisa-" but Uday barely gave her a chance to finish her sentence and left out the door. She had ran after him to explain herself, but it was all too late.
End of flashback
Manyata opened her eyes, blinking back the tears that seemed never-ending. How could he, after all the moments that they shared, even think that she was cheating on him? How could he...doubt her love?
Love. That's what it is, Manyata finally realized. But the realization brought her no relief or happiness. It brought her immense pain. More hurt than she was already experiencing. The day she had realized her love, was the same day that she lost it.
Manyata closed her eyes and leaned back on a tree for support. She felt something sharp slide through her back and immediately winced in pain.
"Aaah!" She screamed. The physical pain in her back was both agonizing to her senses and a relief from the emotional pain that was troubling her soul. She tried to get herself up but to no avail. She sat back down and whimpered with closed eyes. What seemed like a time span of five minutes later, she felt herself hoisted up in a strong pair of arms.
"Chodo mujhe!" Manyata whined without opening her eyes, already knowing who it was. After getting no response she opened her eyes to look straight through Uday's.
Great! I'm suffering through so much pain and he still does not have a speck of sympathy. Abhi tak gusse se ghoor raha hai! Manyata thought in her head.
She'd rather sit there and moan in pain then to call out for my help! Uday thought angrily.
"Didn't you hear!? I said to put me down!" Manyata shouted, but Udayveer ignored her and continued walking until they were finally out of the trees and near his jeep. Without a word, he put her down on the seat.
"Show me the wound Manyata," Udayveer swiftly commanded her. Manyata looked at him like he was an alien from Mars.
"Lagta hai ke yeh kaam bhi mujhe hi karna parega!" Uday said irritated. Before Manyata could react, he turned her around on the seat, her back facing him. Manyata felt his hand travel across her neck to move her hair to the side.
The thorn was stuck under her neck, a little bit above her shoulder blade, easily visible by the blood that soaked her white clothing. Uday opened and closed his eyes, telling himself to control the emotions that were tugging at his heart at seeing her wound. Thankfully she was facing the other way and had no notice of the pain that was on his face.
"Uday yeh tum kya - Ouch!" Manyata gasped as Uday swiftly pulled the thorn out from her back and winced in pain silently for a couple seconds before regaining her composure again.
"Bohat drama ho gaya, ab agar tum mein itni si bhi insaaniyat hai toh mujhe mere ghar tak chod do nahin toh mai khud chali!" Manyata started to get up, but was stopped sharply by Uday's hands over her shoulders, and despite her aching body Manyata felt a feeling of warmth seep through her body from the simple touch. How badly she wanted to turn around and hug him! But Manyata controlled her emotions.
"Manyata the thorn is not completely out yet. I have to rip your dress," Uday said shocking the living daylights out of Manyata.
"You what!?" She quickly escaped his hands and turned her back away from him, facing him with a shocked face.
"Uday door raho mujhse! Mujhe pata hai ke tumhara gussa kaisa hai. Kabhi chilate ho aur kabhi kiss karte ho, lekin yeh toh too much ho gaya!" Manyata shouted alarmed.
Uday cursed his luck for having to deal with the dumbest girl he knew.
"Manyata if you don't let me take it out then it's going to enter deeper in your skin, why don't you understand! Okay I won't rip your clothes but just let me take it out!" He said exasperated.
"I don't care Uday. I'm not letting you touch me!" Manyata said adamantly.
"And I'm not giving you a choice," Uday stated and Manyata stared in horror as Uday held her by the shoulders and turned her around, her back once again facing him. Manyata started to struggle, but he started to slide his hands down from her shoulder until he finally rested them just above her elbows where he squeezed her arms tightly. He took a step closer to her, so that her back was almost touching his chest.
Manyata froze as she felt Uday's face so close to her ear. His voice sent shivers up her spine.
"Trust me...Unlike you, I would never break your trust Manyata," Uday whispered in her ear, his nose nuzzling in her hair, making Manyata feel both pain and an ineffable pleasure at the same time.
She held her breath as she felt Uday's hand reach out and pull at the dori of her dress. The knot unraveled easily at his tug and Uday's hand paused momentarily on her back before slowly travelling to her dress. Manyata unconsciously clutched on the bottom of her seat as she felt him slide her dress down her shoulder until he finally paused when it had reached her shoulder blade.
"Aah!" Manyata let out as Uday removed the rest of the thorn from her skin with his fingers. But he didn't take his hand back and Manyata closed her eyes shut tightly as she felt Uday's fingers trace around the wound on her back.
"Yeh kaata toh uss kaate ke samne kuch bhi nahi hain jo tumne humme chiboya hai Manyata..." Uday said continuing to trace around her wound.
Manyata closed her eyes shut, silent tears falling from her eyes.
She felt Uday's hand pause on her back hesitantly then felt it travel to her dress which he slowly pulled back up. She felt his hands roughly tie the dori of her dress back again and she quickly wiped the tears from her face and turned her body to face the front of the jeep, looking at the road in front rather then at him.
Uday noticed the tear tracks on her face.
"Bohat dukh laga Princess?" He asked and then dived to kiss the lone tear that was still resting in the valley between her neck and collarbone.
"Mujhe bhi," he whispered after placing another slow passionate kiss on her neck.
"Uday, what-" Manyata raised her hand to push him back, but Uday was now too engrossed in kissing every part of her neck.
He held her raised hand and softly, without force, rested it on his shoulder beside his neck and continued to leave a trail of kisses starting from her shoulders. Before Manyata realized it her hand instead of pushing him away like she had intended to, clasped around his neck and she closed her eyes, cherishing the feel of his lips as they travelled up the column of her neck.
His lips had reached her jawline and Uday paused and looked up at Manyata's eyes, not wanting to stop there. Manyata's hand went to Uday's forehead and she slowly brought it down, caressing his face, too lost in the moment.
Just at that moment they heard the loud beep of a car's horn and Manyata and Uday instantly broke out of their reverie. Manyata quickly moved her hand back, but couldn't tear her eyes away from Uday.
Uday avoided her eyes and looked away, already feeling regretful at how easily he had let himself get lost in her. He didn't regret kissing her...why should he when he had every right on her body, mind and soul. He regretted the feelings that she awakened in his heart when really the only thing he wanted was the physical contact, minus the emotional aspect. Something that the old Udayveer would never allow himself to feel for anyone.
While Manyata continued to stare at him, hurt and confused, Uday ignored her and went to sit on his side of the jeep. He turned the engine on and drove to Manyata's palace. The journey was spent in silence, although Manyata kept looking at Uday then at the road and then back at him, expecting him to say something, anything about whatever happened. But she was greatly disappointed to see the same cold expression in his eyes and his refusal to take his eyes off the road even for a second.
They reached her home, and he stopped the jeep in front of the entrance. Udayveer finally turned to look at Manyata and found her to be lost in her thoughts barely realizing that the jeep had come to a halt.
"Good night Princess Manyata," Udayveer said, breaking into Manyata's thoughts. She quickly realized that they had reached and that Uday's "Good Night" was a signal for her to get out of his jeep. Manyata opened the door and left without a word, in a robotic motion.
She walked inside her Mahal, with a blankness in her eyes, like she barely acknowledged her surroundings. She kept walking straight until she reached her destination.
Manyata fell down on her knees and clasped her hands in front of the sacred statue of Radha-Krishna.
"Bhagwanji, today the day that was supposed to be my new beginning, the most beautiful day of my life...you turned it into the worse. Shayad maine hi koi galati ki hogi jo aap mujhe itni badi saaza deh rahe hai. Lekin Uday ki kya galati? Usse lagta hai ke maine usse dokha diya hai. Even if he tries to hide it, I know how much pain and hurt he is going through. All because of me!" Manyata cried.
"Aur Ranvijay... bhagwanji mera aur Uday ka pyar pura ho ya na ho. Meri bas itni si request hai aapse ke aap please please uski zindagi mein koi angel bhej di jiye. Jo bilkul mere jaisa na ho. Ek aisa angel jo usse bohat pyar kare aur har pal uska khayal rakhe!" Manyata closed her eyes and prayed in earnest for the happiness of her heart-broken friend.

Ranvijay's cell phone rang, disturbing his sleep. He tried to ignore it but after continuous ringing he finally picked it up annoyed.
"Hello, kaun hai!?" Ranvijay demanded angrily.
"Main hoon, obviously!"
"Main, kaun?" Ranvijay demanded annoyed.
"Tumhari Meera!"
