Mona Singh's new show to replace Aroona Irani's 'Dekha Ek Khwaab'?
The Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin actor has reportedly signed her second fiction show, and it could air in the time slot currently occupied by the veteran actor's show
Mona Singh catapulted to fame with her bespectacled act in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin eight years ago. Since then the actor has done several television shows but none of them has been a fiction show. Now we hear she's signed a Balaji Telefilms show titled Bas Itni Si Baat Hai. The new show will also air on Sony, the same channel that hosted JJKN. The project is being kept under wraps, but since it's an Ekta Kapoor show, we guess we can expect to see Mona as a housewife in gorgeous saris. That's a common theme across all of Ekta's shows – whether it's the oh-so-different Pavitra Rishta or the we-are-different Bade Achche Lagte Hain or the really different Parichay. Bas Itni Si Baat Hai is expected to go on air on January 16 and will be aired on weekdays from 8.30pm. The show currently being telecast at that time slot is Aroona Irani's Dekha Ek Khwaab. So does that mean DEK will be axed? Or just shifted to a different slot? Either way, the show's date means a hectic schedule is going to begin for Mona as she'll have to shoot a sizeable bank of episodes in the next few weeks. Ever since Jassi ended, Mona has been doing only reality television. This will be her second fiction show. Mona was so entrenched in the public consciousness as Jassi, that it was a tough task to move on to a different character. She should be honoured though, as Muniya, the lead character in DEK, will soon undergo a transformation a la Mona's Jassi so many years ago. Muniya will start sporting designer wear and make up, and will henceforth be known as Maanayata, just like Jassi got rid of her glasses, gained a stylish haircut and a new wardrobe to become Jessica. Mona created a huge impact as Jassi, but thanks to all those reality shows, she's back to being Mona Singh in everyone's minds. With Ekta backing her, it won't be difficult for her to be identified with another character. She just needs to work on that diction and she'll be fine.
