I think it is not only important but also mandatory for parents to tell the adopted child the reality. the honesty in any relationship always pays at some point of time. The child may initially feel different but the fact tht the parents have taken them into confidence is a gesture well respected.

Also, it is always better that a child comes to know about these realities from home rather than from outside. My uncle has an adopted daughter She is only 6 but knows that she was from someone else's womb and who her real parents are.

It really hurts when a child comes to know that he or she is adopted. I dont know why the parents who adopt them feel so insecure. There will be so much understanding and love between a parent and a child, if everything is clear from the begining.

I feel an adopted child should feel honoured and cherished that someone in the first place took them in and gave them love and support when their own real parents did not want them.

Yeah maybe sometimes circumstances does not allow an adopted parent to belt out the truth in the beginning but I stand firm that adopted kids need to know that they were special enough that outsiders took them in when their real kin did not want them.

My conclusion after reading every one's point of view has been that one should tell an adopted child early enough . And as Nishani said , he must know how cherished and wanted he or she is to the parents !!

I too, feel that the kid should learn as early as possible. Like we saw in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, it's okay to digest this fact early in life than hiding it and later getting to know from someone else. It is also important how this truth is conveyed to them, so it's better parents tell it to their children with appropriate approach rather kids learning from others where you cannot control the modulation, spirit and emphasis of words.
