Fire symbolizes purity and integrity. In the past fire has been used to purge us of many evils like witches, bras and indecent books. Sati will help us purge society of women who cause the unfortunate death of their husbands and thus maintaining social integrity.

PS: Is there a seriously good reason you wish to discus this topic?

i didn't choose this topic to discus. she gave me this topic and i have no idea about it.

yup, sati is absolutely a necessity but not at the time when one becomes widow. Why wait so long!!! Actually, one should jump in the fire while taking saatwa phera during the wedding ceremony. saalon saal roz roz ka jee jalaney sey achha ek baar hee jal ker nibat jao😉

Every Debate has a "For" and an "Against"

If you are going for the "FOR" side

In olden days a woman's self respect was the most important thing to her. After her husbands death she was left to the mercy of the society to protect her integrity .After her husband died if she couldnt earn a living she would be a target to unwanted elements in the society. Her lack of earning skills would make her living difficult and many a times thing didnt go well after that. and the woman would get frustrated and be driven towards suicide.

On the other hand Suicide was illegal according to norms of society then. So the religious heads put together a way out for the woman to maintain self integrity and that was self immolation using Sati.

This way the Woman was able to maintain her integrity and virtue while still maintaining the integrity of the society. So Sati was certainly a way of maintaining the social integrity of the society
