Are Bollywood movies a huge collection of love stoires , i.e 1% creative new ideas and 99% love stories ?
After food/water/air , love and romance are the most important things in our lives. Most people will never experience fiery passionate romance and love as depicted in movies so in a way the the movies serve basic purpose hence their popularity. Besides it is addictive to watch romance and love enacted by beautifull actors. 😛

You have to credit Indian film makers for at least making outright love stories. What irks me about Hollywood is that they will infuse a romantic angle for the masses when there is no necessity in the plot line whatsoever.
Speaking of LOTR, has anyone read the books. Arwen barely appears in the books. The entire romance between Arwen and Aragon is in the appendices. Nothing to do with the plot whatsoever, and was forcibly written into the movie. Take Harry Potter movie and the hyped Cho Chang kiss, a good waste of 15 minutes into the plot line. The scene has absolutely no relevance in the screenplay and was inserted just for hype. I literally gagged. They could have utilized that time to actually develop the weak screenplay. Star Wars, the Han and Leia connection. Absolutely irrelevant and has nothing to do with the plot, could easily have been deleted. Let us not forget Star Wars happened first place because of a love story.
Still why blame Bollywood for lack of plot lines, at least they come up with creative ways to make love stories. The work is not already done for them by Marvel and DC and all the people who write books, comics and make video games.
Whether it is running around trees singing and dancing or intergalactic battles or ring bearing fantasy adventures. Plain and simple love is just love whether its in you face or subtly tied up in an epic movie. Honestly, Indian movies do not make me gag as much as the forced romantic angles in blockbuster films.
Sorry to disagree with you. Infusing love stories in block-busters may be in practice in hollywood, what about the rest? I can name n no. of hit movies with only male or female cast in the main roles. They make movies based on love stories on all ages, usual or unusual. Out of great subjects and plots. How many we can name in Bollywood? Only thing attracts about the Bollywood love stories is they are very colourful and have good numbers, other wise same ghisa-pita love story, always melodramatic. How long can we accept the same heroes working for the past 15-20 years again and again in the same romantic roles. I am not saying they are bad actors, but how much they can offer again and again playing the same kind of role. It's high time we need fresh faces in romantic movies. They should try different subjects and minimise appearing in movies in every 4-5 months. That's very much in practice in Hollywood for the actors getting older. Our Mr. Big B surely needs a break. Talking about creativity, don't forget many Bollywood movies are inspired from Hollywood.
In recent times Bollywood is trying to break the trend with movies like RDB, Iqbal, Chak de, Dor, etc.

I rather agree with RTH here .. Bolywood has its own unique identity ..I dont' find any problem in it .. sometimes we hate it , we laugh on it but this is true it is now part of almost everyone's life one way or another .. from music to story to stars . it is a good entertainment . We shouldn't forget that we can't compare it with holywood . there are major differences like target population , finances etc.
and I dont' agree with you about recent efforts of breaking the trend .. movies with different topics are not new happening .. it has been there in early period too. for eg. Raj kapoor's Jagte raho , Tesri Qasam were not at all typical movies .. movies by Guru dutt were different and ofcourse movies of parallel cenima ; Art movies of 70s and 80s.
