Negative or Bad Ego is definately not good.. it can destroy careers / families / relationships...

Though a little bit of positive ego should be there in each and every individual otherwise a person may not succeed in whatever he/she does...

Ego or Ahankar historically has responsible for various wars and bad happenings. yes, thats negative ego...but

1. how you determine ego is good and bad?

2. Whats the impact of ego on self esteem?

3. Is ego same as self respect?

4. Is ego good to have? whats the limit?

Yes, Ego or Ahankar is the cuase of various wars and bad happenings.

Ego and self respect has connections.

Indian philosophy is mainly based on the search of "Aham". If one peson get devoid of the "Aham"/ "Ego " he/she has no amobitions.( Without ambition one cannot become successful in meterialistic world) Then he ot she become a Yogin. .

I don't think aham is ego.. aham is self esteem. self-esteem and confidence is sufficient in order to have ambitions / aspirations.
EGO is a vaguely and widely used term. In Sanskrit / related languages, we have nice terminologies to differentiate ahamkaar, ahambhaav etc..

Ego - @The Websters's comprehensive dictionary of the English language

1. Self, considered as the seat of consciousness

2.In philosophy, the entire man, body and mind.

3.Psychoanal. The superficial conscious part of id, developed in response to the physical and social environment.

4 In metaphysics, the permanent real being to whom all conscious states and attributes belong

5.In Colloq. Self centeredness, egotism, conceit. If we are considering this as the meaning of ego then it is Ahamkar or Ahambhav. Then we have to eleminate this from our self. Otherwise, only a saint/yogin can eleminate ego from his conscious.

yepp.. nicely put Nita! 👏👏.. The term being so vague, I guess it is debate-worthy. Although 1 to 4 seem essential for life, 5 appears to be negative, the way i tend to looks at it. your post comprehends & contrasts the different interpretations of the word.

well nice topic

ego n self esteem r tottaly diffrent

too much ego causes miseries

ofcourse little bit of ego is fine

but too much ego is harmful in every way

ego is very dangerous when its comes

to intimate reletionships. cause to carry

a reletionship both partners need to be themself

n ego in nature of one it will always be barrier

people get confuse when it comes to self esteem n ego

make mistakes over it most of d time
