Hi, I'm new to DM and this is my first topic so if it has been discussed before please delete it..

Okay, so right now all over the world English is the (for lack of a better word) "universal" language. English is taught in schools all around the world and it's words are slowly creeping into other languages as well. More and more English is being used even when we speak in hindi, like in the movies. So my debate question was, do you think that years and years from now, English will be the only language? Or do you think that the language we speak depends on the country that has power (like US for English)?

Definitely depends on the country that has power, more in the economic context. Like the country with most amount of business contacts globally, but of course military power is also important.

That is what I thought...If India had more power in the economic sense then we would all be speaking hindi 😊

NO! English is, was and will remain a language of haves and have-nots shall continue to stick with local language.

I think the no of English speakers is highly inflated. Even those who know English use local language for day to day use.
