It's a little more agressive than I'd personally pursue.. but the spirit of your ideas and suggestions and thoughts are very similar ๐Ÿ˜Š

For me, age should be 14+ for kids who have knowledge of the things on the internet, and know how to avoid them...
16+ for kids who know about internet stuff [or don't] and know how to avoid them...

I joined when I was 14...I'm still alive๐Ÿ˜†

I said they are getting ready for Univ...... I did not say they are in Univ. The last two years of high school here are considered such.

@ Rutu - in a situation like the one you presented, I would say it's the parents responsibility to explain and not just disallow the child from joining such communities.
And here I pose a question to the parents on the forum: By the time you have a kid and are presented with such a situation, do you really remember to talk to them and explain? Or do you just dictate the terms and leave the child wondering why and it's not fair?

I know many of the mom's here follow the speak and explain method. Kudos to you for that. But is it the norm? It certainly wasn't at my home. My parents attempted touching the topic but never fully gave reason for their reservations. Now, being older I understand where they were coming from and try to pass on the "why not" to my younger sister.

I think if you explain the pitfalls the net (esp communities) presents the child might just be more cooperative. And if not, perhaps let the child join with stipulations including common password knowledge (at 10 just what would you be hiding from your parents? ... though the child may feel his/her privacy is being violated) or the parent signs up with an account as well.

Perhaps monitoring is being too much of a big brother - but I'm just not comfortable having a 10 year old of mine on the net - in the future. And at present, to be quite honest, I'm sometimes not comfortable talking about certain topics when anybody under the age of 16 is around - there are just something I'd rather not be responsible for imposing on an impressionable mind.

@ Lil Princez - Guess you haven't heard.. I'm 19 going on Nani! ๐Ÿ˜† So I'll stick with the aunty group. ๐Ÿ˜›

I guess 13/14 if you know what you're doing on the internet...and like not talking to complete strangers giving out personal information and stuff like that...I guess when you're old enough to realize there are predators and people like that online...so you dont put personal info. on profiles and stuff...
But maybe the actual age is like 15/16.
I know some people who are like only 10 years old on this forum... ๐Ÿ˜• and young kids like that on myspace too.
I joined IF when I was 7 ๐Ÿ˜ƒ jk I dont even think it was a site that long ago. ๐Ÿ˜†

i dont think any age is appropriate. bachon ka toh pata hai. par buzarg log bhee forum peh aa kar bigad jaate hain. not good. not good. they should be out going for morning walks at their age, not getting addicted to new vices ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜†
