hey shweetie, i will suggest some authors like george mikes...he is hilarious. you must try reading some of the old books of victoria holt...there is mystrey, murder and romance in them...books like shivering sands, the serpent woman, legend of the seventh virgin, night of the seventh moon...they are all interesting...romantic and has a touch of crime to it..., check these out...will tell you more as i remember them...

I agree with you Jaya. I rarely have trouble completing any book. A suitable boy was with me for months and find it too verbose.
It is a good book but would pick Golden gate much more.

really, i am surprised to hear this. i loved it.......i read it while i was in india and it was awesome. some parts were too verbose as you said but i just scanned those.

A suitable boy was written on a lazy summer afternoon...bahut aaram se...koi jaldi nahi thi Vikram Seth ko...thats why he goes on and on...but there is something in that book...an old world charm...which makes me pick it up ( and believe me thats a task 😃 ) again and again...I am determined to finish this one... 😛

Talking of fiction...I havent been able to read a Robert Ludlam till date! 😳

First of all, my thanks to the tpoic starter for asking the very questions I wanted to ask! It's a great help!

What type of books do you read generally(fiction/non fiction)?

Fiction! Although I don't mind a reflective piece of factual reporting too, but fiction is after my own heart.

Which is the wonderful book you have read till date?(the book which you really feel"yeah! this is a gem,I should suggest this to my friends)

Ummmm.....lots actually....but I recently read "Sister of my Heart" which I would recommend for any girl who is at the threshold of womanhood.....a beautiful, poetic work written with old-world charm. Another one I love is Vikram Seth's "An Equal Music"....sadly I've not managed to read his other works which have been highyl recommended in this thread....but Equal Music is enough to move one to tears.

Are influenced by any author and her/his idealogies?

To some extent, I get influenced by Ruskin Bond, and I find my own style of writing getting influenced by him. When I was younger, I saw everything through Jane Austen-ish pungent humour.

Did it ever happen that u get influenced by a character in a book??

Not really...I'm pretty much my own person but there was a time when I drew inspiration from Anne Shirley of the Avonlea novels.....It was a diffuclt time for me when I lacked confidence in my own decisions, and reading about Anne made my believe more in myself.

Do you map the any character of the book to you (unknowingly) ?

Hmmmm yes....esp JA's heroines.

Is there any dream character in one of your fav books you like to see in reality or as your partner?

Maybe Frank Churchill from "Emma"....the charming flirt.😳

Do books add confusuion or help you in learning things?

They definitely help me to learn about life, they sort out confusion.

Your top 5 fav books and 5 fav authors?

That's difficult...my preferences keep changing but, as of now, they are:

TOP 5 BOOKS

1. Sister of My Heart

2. Emma/ Persuasion (can't decide!)

3. An Equal Music

4. The House on the Strand

5. White Mughals

TOP 5 AUTHORS

1. Jane Austen

2. Ruskin Bond

3. Lucy Montgomery

4. William Dalrymple

5. Enid Blyton ! 😃

May I also add top 5 books I WANT to read:

1. A Suitable Boy

2. The Namesake

3. Mistress of Spices

4. The Last Mughal

5. All the HPs I haven't read yet!
