Are exams reallly a valid test to test a person'sskill and intelligence, capability?

Are they a fair judgement?

Is it right to be basing a person's future on one exam?

It depends on the exams. But standardized tests are horrbile ways to measure a person's intelligence, performance in college etc. Take the Stupid Annoying Test (better known as SAT 😆 ) for example. Does writing an essay in 1 given topin in 25 minutes judge a person's writing capabilites? of course not! what about the multiple choice questions?..its not even the same thing as what we learn in school. its an unnecessary burden for us overstressed, overworked teens and thats it

It is fair. Tests are made so that you can understand what you have learned. If you didn't learn anything, your test results should show... maybe you didn't care about the exam until the day before it happened... however, if your professor makes an unfair exam, then I can understand... 😃

Are exams reallly a valid test to test a person'sskill and intelligence, capability?

Well, it depends... not all tests are valid tests to judge a person's skill and intelligence!..... for instance, a test that we take regularly in school right after a certain lesson/lecture is a valid test to see where a person stands because it depicts how well a student has paid attention and how well that student has grasped everything in class!..... even final exams, midterms or whatever one calls them, are a good way to see where one actually stands because one can tell whether or not they have actually remembered all that they have learned from the beginning till the point of the exam.... but then again there are small things the come in between that do make it a bit unfair... like, what if someone has memorized a whole lesson, word to word from the book, and that person is not that intelligent, but ends up getting an excellent grade.... now that does not portray intelligence of any sort, except the fact that the person is good at memorization! 😆... that person just memorized everything and really did not try to understand its concept... so that, in my opinion, is no intelligence...they can end up getting a great grade, and people would consider it as intelligence, but it really does not illustarate intelligence... does it?... so such things in between do cause it to become hard to judge a person entirely on exams!

Is it right to be basing a person's future on one exam? No!.....

an exam is only of a short period of time, somtimes u receive results which u hardly ever expect... an hour exam or a five hour exam does not take away whatever knowledge you have stored in your mind........in other words, one exam does not change your level of intelligence nor should it change your future entirely!....

in the USA, we take an exam called the SATs, and they are about 4-5 hours long and very stressing!..... there are so many portions to the exam and each portion is about 30 mintues or less, which makes one rush through every portion!! and these exams count big time! ...... they do depict where one stands amongst many students across the nation, but just notice the way a student has to give these SATs,... doing ten sections filled wid repetitive concepts of english and math including a 25 minute essay as well???? i mean it is tense and stressful and then colleges look at it as a part of their admission requirements... there are many cases where a student who is smart in school fails to do well in these exams and at times students who hardly do anything in school, do very well on them... now, it wont be entirely fair to judge a student on such an exam.... yes, it should count to an extent, but entirely judging the student based on ONE exam is very unfair, but the truth is, that nowadays every test counts no matter what !

Totally depends on the exam.

The 12th std board exams are BAD. You study like an ass the whole year, then 3 hours for 7 days = 21 hours decide your life to come. If you don't perform well, you can't pursue your dreams. INSANE. These exams should be put a full stop to, like asap. Now, the entrance tests are coming up, which are apparently better than the boards. What's the difference, I say. Again, your future is decided within a few hours.

But then, there are weekly tests, midterms and all, which are a good measure to judge the student. And the final grade should be cumulative, no matter what.

With children's lives being judged based on a few hours, we are doing nothing but ruining the future of the country.

if you get good marks they are generally fair... but if you get bad marks or fail..they generally are unfair... 😆
