Values that one builds. They're the one that ultimately makes the person that s/he is and distinguishes him/her from the others.

Culture and Values both play great part in one's life IMHO. But at the end of the day Value is something what you are made of. It differentiates you from others. 😊

but the values we seemingly imbibe are largely shaped by circumstances. and when we talk of circumstances, the place, religion, economic and social class, and family values/ culture of someone's birth are very important, by and large. no running away from birth circumstances.😊
culture and aspects relating to someone's birth religion and family are the framework around which we imbibe other values. 70 to 80% of the structure is already developed right there imo, the rest come from the specific circumstances one goes thru in life.
it's like this- a few career decisions in one's life shapes 90% of what we ultimately achieve. beyond that, we can work harder but we would be stuck pretty much in the same orbital level, with relatively minor differences in outcome. birth circumstances work the same way- whether we like it or not, they do give us most of the values we later exhibit.

agree with you here. We are born into a culture but we are not born with high values. Initially, it is the parents/family, who inculcate good values and morals in the child...later on the school also adds to the ability of distinguishing the right from the wrong....a person can make this distinction only when he has good basic values imo.
Values make a person choose the ethical path as opposed to the unethical path. Ethical values provide the foundation of civilized society. Survival of any civilization/country depends on moral character of its people because people elect the government that runs the country. Survival of any kind of social system, like law and order, thriving corporate sector etc. depends on the morality of its people. Immoral people are not going to follow any law and order, irrespective of how good the judicial system is.
Ethical values can be derived from religious principles, history, literature, or personal observation and experience. Ethical values are strongly correlated to strong individual virtues because it takes a lot of courage and compassion to be able to put integrity before other commonly favored individual aspirations like wealth, fame, knowledge, and popularity.
Therefore, CB ji, I agree with you that a combination of culture and ethics/values are more important than either one of them taken individually.😊...but when two people belong to the same race, culture, background...it is their values that differentiate them from each other😊
