Should schools teach 'Britishness'?

The government wants all pupils in England to be taught Britishness as part of their curriculum.😊

A review of how schools teach citizenship and diversity found there was not enough emphasis on British identity and history. 😭

Education Secretary Alan Johnson will say it will be compulsory for secondary school pupils up to the age of 16 to learn about shared values and life in the UK.😭

What is Britishness? Should its teaching be compulsory? Does the current curriculum place enough emphasis on national identity? 😳

Isnt it their prerogative what to teach their citizenery?

If you are an Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi 2nd generation child and you are a British citizen, it would be great to learn your Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi heritage, however the child still is a British citizen, if the child has to grow up without an identity crisis, the child should be taught what being a British means

This would just help the child assimilate into the British world more or else the child is going to be destined to a ghetto

I love my motherland, however it would be very wrong for me to force my love of my motherland on my child(who is a US citizen) If I knew he is going to be living in US all his life

Just my opinion

I don't think learning the culture and traditions of the country you have chosen to live in is anything to get worked up about. Why not? Thos ewho live in Britain are eventually are going to be British citizens. The British were always known for their composed behaviour and manners. So I don't think that will harm anyone.
