Ours was coed so my Hindi teacher took me in an empty room to slap . Such a weird old lady she is. 5 years back that school got stuck in a legal mess when a kid got seriously injured. I did a good thing by changing my school in 9th. In my next school too they used to take their sticks out to hit children but it was moderate and no one used to slap.

I'm so glad hitting students is illegal now . Teachers often abused kids before

Yeah but I guess some people see languages like Rajasthani, haryanvi, bhojpuri etc as kind of a Hindi descendant dialect type thing. I don't though

yes there is not much problem in Shillong, people try their best to. communicate even with broken hindi/english, just that there are idiots who will be like that, because every place have extremists. Like here are some groups who cry "Khasi by birth, Indian by force".

We will be like other Asian countries like China, Japan, South Korea, where the general population doesn't know how to speak English. What will happen to IT industry and our economy?

If something is optional, you don't necessarily have to do it.

Also all the South Indian states have different languages, but if ppl choose to learn Hindi, it might help them in most of the North Indian states.

PS-if you or anyone here thinks that those who go down South don't face any discrimination because of language then I don't think you /they have the complete picture. Worked in Vizag and Chennai for a few years. People who actually understand / know what you are trying to convey will pretend not to coz acc to them it's funny bugging a Hindi speaker(especially In Chennai, even if you try broken Tamil). And not just me, a lot of northies are taunted by the locals(fair pigs, pandi etc) rudely spoken to and asked to go back to our "cow shed". Try speaking that "India mein rehke Hindi nahi ati" line in Chennai and soon a crowd will thrash you so bad that even the police will not be able to do anything.

It's just that when all this happens in Mumbai it becomes news, but when it continuously happens in cities like Chennai, and even the educated folks are involved in it then its called preserving their culture.

This one is not just for your comment but for all those who have been showing only one part of the problem(aka some northies saying some sort of rubbish). Their is a disdain from the other side too. It's not all hunky dory as it's presented. Hopefully more smart cities will help people mingle and change their outlook towards each other.

Isn't the thrashing well-deserved ?

The fact that you are complaining about going to chennai and then getting thrashed for saying " India mein rehke Hindi nahi aati " is a testimony of the fact that the pro- Hindi side is much more problematic than the anti-Hindi side .. I mean how can you be so self entitled and irrational while trying to highlight how "the other side" is problematic .?! . Isn't that self-defeating ? .. You tried to prove something and ended up doing the exact opposite .. 😆

Actually no, trouble06 is saying that a person living in Tamil Nadu, doesn't face that type of entitlement when he is in Tamil Nadu itself. It mostly happens when the person.goes to North and than can't speak Hindi. And it isn't something only Hindi native speakers do, many Indians don't know India doesn't have national language, so many people from many different states, who knows Hindi, have said this line. I know a Mizo, a fcuking Mizo saying this line, about Kannada people, after his stay in Mangalore.

I'm sure if we have one language like Hindi used throughout the country, the benefits it will bring will improve the economy more than english ever did.
