When you think of it as 'You only live once and die once' (i.e. no reincarnation). Then why would people make such big sacrifices in this lifetime when they know they only have one chance to live their dreams?

Is sacrificing a respectful thing? Or is it really just a weakness?

Seeing the other one happy is sometimes a necessary and sufficient condition for one to attain their dreams of a lifetime. That is bcause of LOVE - a respectable weakness.

well..karma may not wait for ur next life to come n bite u in the a**.... 😛 😛 it may get even with u in ur current lifetime...so why take the chance.,...either ways...reincarnation or no reincarnation.....karma will alwayz get to u so i guess we make sacrifices for a better future..an unguaranteed future....and i agree with mermaid as well...sometimes we make sacrfices for love only....and thats the kind of sacrifice that i think should matter 😊

WEll i believe in reincarnation, so rule me out when you say that 'we live only onceand die ony once.' 😳 But I'll answer your question anyways.

What's wrong in sacrificing something for someone if it makes that someone feel good and gladen your heart too?! Don't we want everyone to be happy? There are people who are very generous by nature and for them real happiness is in giving, thus they sacrifice.

OH, and i absolutely agree with mermaid_QT :).

I agree with you angel_wings

It is so easy to say sacrifice for others' happiness... but it takes a lot of courage....

and only the ones that have sacrificed..... know the true meaning and value of it - otherwise it is very easy to type out.

so do i believe in recarnation. but that's a condition i put in for this topic as you don't know what, where, who, how u'll be in your next lifetime.

I am not saying that sacrificing is wrong.

but when someone wants something so bad yet has to sacrifice that..... it can really change your life forever. but like i said... only ppl that do make a big sacrifice in life know its true meaning (yes, to give up your own happiness for the happiness of others).

no offense to anyone

Yes Priya! I am glad everyone agrees.
Even for this one life time, a big sacrifice is sometimes very worth it 😊 Althouht one should not expect anything in return "karmanyevadhikaraste.. maa phalaeshu kadaachana- you only have the right to fullfill your duty, not the right to enjoy its fruit" , I still feel that it is IMPORTANT that the other one remembers and apprecites what you let go for their happiness and succeeds.
The feeling that sacrifice went waste can leave a very bad taste in one's life otherwise, unless they have attained the ultimate spiritual wakening!

hey mermaid_QT,

what if the person/people you sacrifice for don't even know you are sacrificing for them?

Hey Priya!

That's a great point! It really requires attaining a much higher spiritual freedom in order to make and not feel the pain of sacrifices that go un-noticed / un-thanked for.

Most normal individuals find it hard not to let the other one know about his / her sacrifice. In fact, most of the ordinary individuals may also expect gratitude! This starts within family and extends into friendship. Sacrifices made for spouses/ their families/career sometimes fall in the category of "make it known" sacrifices. Sometimes they go sadly un-noticed.

Let us assume that the people you made those sacrifices for, are happy and content. In that case, you may find your happiness through their happiness whether they know about your sacrifice / not.. All you need is for them to behave nicely and return the feeling of love, & nothing more. When that doesn't happen either, then one is left with a lot of pain and hurt 😕.

The lesson I have learnt in my grown up years is that before making a huge sacrifice for someone, make sure they're worth it! . Yes, you will find some that are worth it! Most others may not be.
