IMO Pros:
1. Start from clean slate and build new friendships
2. Good chance to change your lifestyle
3. Start new hobbies and interests
4. Do what you please and when you feel like it
5. Responsible for own actions

Cons:
1. Distance from family
2. No emotional support network
3. If you have family responsibilities then you are escaping them, there is always a guilt factor.
4. Some times it is not cost effective.

I believe everyone should experience some time off the family and support network. This is how you learn how to deal with unknown situations.

by staying alone you learn to become independent
you will make new friends
you get to know yourself much better

cons is yes sometimes you become emotionally detached with everyone
you may develop an inferiority complex

@ankitasushma: Didn't understand the inferiority complex part. Why would one develop inferiority complex because of staying alone?

Important to be alone... I don't know.
But, you should be able to live on your own, enjoy your own company/aloneness.

Personally, yes, it is important for me to get away from these humans to unwind. I prefer solitude, but welcome any company if it comes my way. However, by the end of the day, I love the fact or truth that I am on my own. Everyone is, if you ask me.

There's no guarantee that people who seek company aren't depressed. It's a wrong notion.

Aloneness =/= loneliness.

Being alone has nothing to do with depression, neither will it result in depression.

Leaving parents in old age...that depends on the child..

There aren't any pros or cons to being alone. Aloneness is as natural to man as his sociability.
