Welcome to the t e a m a n n o u n c e m e n t and i n s t r u c t i o n s for the
l a w g a m e. The instructions and the cases for each team are in the first post whereas the teams are posted in the second post. The discussion threads where your team can discuss are linked under your team title.

Each team has also been assigned a C r a z y C r e a t i v e whom they can approach whenever there is a q u e s t i o n about the game. These CC's will
N O T help with the arguments or the creation of the thread (where the arguments will be posted), but will only answer questions pertaining to instructions that may seem unclear.

https://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss73/paunad/glitter-white02.gifhttps://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss73/paunad/glitter-white02.gifhttps://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss73/paunad/glitter-white02.gif

All discussion related to the case must be in the Team Discussion thread (linked under your respective team tags).

You must come up with 3 arguments. [Three AGAINST the accused if your team has been assigned as Crown Prosecutors, three FOR the accused if your team has been assigned as the Criminal Defense].

You must include 2 counter arguments. Your counter arguments are arguments that will cancel out any arguments the opposing team may make. You can either brainstorm them or spy on the other team's thread and find any arguments they intend to include.

Once your arguments and counter arguments are ready, place them in a thread (post in the Debates Mansion with a creative title) in the following format:

-Your position on the case (are you for or against the accused?)
Example format: We, as the Defense Counsels of our client / Crown Prosecutors of the State / believe that the accused should not be charged with manslaughter.

-Your three arguments (for or against the accused)

-Your two counter arguments to cancel out arguments the opposition could make.

-Your suggested sentence for the accused (must address the Judges and Jury).
Example format: Ladies and gentlemen of the Jury, and the respected Judges, as the Defense / as the Prosecution, we believe that justice must be served. [..Include suggested sentence here and WHY].

-Your credits and links to all references used for the arguments.

All suggested sentences must be in accordance with the law of the setting of the case. For example, if the case given to you is being tried in the United States, you must research what the sentence is (as per the law), for the crime described in your particular case. Please refer to the specific statues from the piece of legislation governing such issues in your suggested sentence speech.

Please ensure the thread is aesthetically appealing. Use graphics and colours.

The thread must be ready by December 5, 2014 (Canadian MST Time Zone). Please send the link to Crazycreative.
Once the link is sent to the account, you may not edit
the thread any longer.

The Jury of 12 will go over the arguments after the deadline and decide on a verdict. Following that, the three Judges will look over the arguments and the verdict of the Jury, and decide on a final verdict. Finally, the winner will be announced for both cases.

Crown Prosecutor vs Criminal Defense
[The State v. Oscar Pistorius]

Oscar Pistorius, a South African Paralympic sprinter, was recently sentenced to 5 years in Pretoria (High Court of South Africa) for shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp to death.
At the time of death, girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was in the bathroom on the toilet, with the bathroom door locked. Pistorius shot the gun four times at the locked bathroom door, hitting Reeva with three bullets. He claimed to have had suspected an intruder in the bathroom, and not his girlfriend.

Along with the charge of culpable homicide [first or second degree could not be determined] of his girlfriend, Oscar Pistorius was also charged with reckless endangerment with a firearm for three years (a prison suspended sentencing), thus resulting in the total of five years in prison. An application to appeal the conviction will be heard by the
Court on December 9.

The Criminal Defense (Team CSI) must prove that the sentencing needs to be changed to make it harsher than five years in prison, whereas the Crown Prosecutors (Team Boston Legal) must either argue that the sentencing is
c o r r e c t or that it should be reduced.

Crown Prosecutor vs Criminal Defense
[Justin Bieber's Dangerous Driving, Assault Case]

On August 29, the Canadian popstar, Justin Bieber was arrested after an accident between his ATV and a minivan near his hometown, Stratford, Ontario, Canada. He was said to have been visiting his father in Ontario with then girlfriend, Selena Gomez. After the accident, according to police reports, Bieber got into a physical altercation with an occupant of the mini van.

The Ontario Court responsible of the case charged him with two criminal code offenses: dangerous driving and assault. He was released by police on a Promise To Appear on September 29, 2014. It appears that his lawyer may have been the only one to have shown to court.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the collision but the same can't be confirmed for the physical altercation.

Justin Bieber's string of legal troubles (past and present) could be used to argue for and against the celebrity for this case. The Criminal Defense (Team Law & Order) must argue why the singer should not be charged or argue for an average sentence (perhaps even less), whereas the Crown Prosecutor (Team Suits) must argue for a harsh sentence.

The roles of the Defense and Prosecution were flipped around in Case 1. Fixed it here in this quote and the discussion thread. Apologies.

@bold after a very hectic research,I came to a conclusion that as per the language and terms used in the courts of Ontario,
the word "we" is not used, even if the lawyer is referring to him/herself and his/her client as a group.😕 Or is it the way you used?
