A lot of people in this generation seem to be more independent that pleasing parents is becoming less and less important. You have to be happy with the choices you make. Parents won't be around forever. Please share your thoughts. 😊

I thought the topic was clear. We only live once right and love our parents.
But, should we please them or ourselves? Does that clarify? 😊

We should do whatever is best and there should be a balance.
But there will always be a conflict of interest sometimes.
Generally parents want the best for their kids, but there are a rare few who are monsters too; some greedy parents who want the children to give them everything.
There are generally more disobedient children rather than parents who are bad.

Well the topic wasn't "Please your PARENTS or YOURSELF?", it was "Duty towards parents Yes or No ? " which I think has the same essence..

Anyways, my opinion on this topic :

Hmm.. I think if one pleases himself (money, luxury etc) , parents would be (or atleast should be) automatically happy that their child is doing well in his life meaning their "parenting" has paid off now that their child is standing on his own two legs & no more dependent on his parents..however, in India we do have a rather strange approach towards parenting .i.e. a give & take concept.. i dont think its fair for the parents to expect that their child should look after them in return to their efforts of looking after the child..i dont think thats proper parenting..although, a son/daughter looking after his/her parents out of his/her own free will (& resources) is absolutely sublime..but ofcourse the son's/daughter's responsibility first lies with their own offspring if any..

Generally when I was young I thought of most elders as "bullies" 😆 Even teachers had their own interest at heart.
So kids better fend for yourself !

It's quite tricky. If one listens to their parents and they don't feel happy living the choices they have made under parental pressure, they would blame them for being such lousy parents. On the other hand if one goes ahead and does their own thing and it doesn't work out, they could still blame their parents for being such lousy parents. 🤔

Therefore, I want to listen to myself at all times. I am blaming my parents anyway. But just maybe when I am older maybe I'll know it's been me all along. Self-efficacy, I am hoping, comes with age.
