cheating is an evolutionary trait.

Sorry to butt in like this...

@ bold

I think its the opposite... 😆..."cheating" is our "primal" evolutionary instinct...through evolution humans have now come to value things like "fidelity","monogamy" etc in the modern society..but its our "retained primal nature" that makes things like "monogamy" difficult for some of us...so in other words, the more you cheat the less evolved you are 🤓 ... and the more you manage to abide by modern relationship standards by overpowering your primal evolutionary cheating instincts, the more evolved you are...😊

A civilization of cheats is the least evolved civilization in that sense...😆

I did not use the term evolutionary (or anything in my argument of that matter) in the colliqual sense. I mean it in strictly scientific terms. And in those terms, there is no such thing as more or less evolved. There is no such thing as evolved either. There is simply the process of natural selection that chooses traits that help a species reproduce. So when I say cheating is an evolutionary trait, I am not making a moral judgement. Exactly the opposite, I am saying cheating exists because it helps propagate favourable traits in babies.

If you ask for my private opinion, I think cheating is very wrong.

However, scientifically speaking, it will continue to exist because it may result in more/healthier babies for the cheaters.

Also, fidelity (and serial monogamy) are also evoluntionarily derived traits. There is plenty of evidence to support this school of thought. Because of the VERY heavy price humans pay to raise a child, it is important that the mother and father (and in some cases even grandparents) stay together. Like they say it takes a village to raise a child. That is why fidelity and serial monogamy are important to human race. So technically, being loyal to one person for a number of years is also in our nature so to speak.
(Interesting tidbit: Women live longer than men even though they cannot give birth after menopause because of their great help in their grandchildren's care. Whereas men tend to contribute less to childcare and do not live as long).

I hope we are clear here.
Feel free to ask questions.

@ your friend's conundrum. I am late to the party fyi, I just read the comments. you should suggest him (or her) to look into polyamory. rumour has it Tilda Swinton is a member though she negated any such talk. but we can't be sure, the woman also says she is not a clone of david bowie. I refuse to believe her.
in all seriousness, I will shy away from waving my monogamist flag here and say start swinging if that floats your boat. but if the partner(s) involved have no idea what the heck is going on, he is really a douche of grade A. one needs consent from all parties or else this will not end well.

Would like to know what you think about it and especially what Loveprofusion has to say 😆

This is a mystery to me.
But usually when people invest time and emotion in a relationship they also invest trust. Breaking someone's trust by cheating (usually without telling) is what makes it worse. It usually makes the one who has been cheated on feel that their feelings were never taken seriously in the first place and that they don't hold much importance to the one who cheated.
I don't understand why people who can't be committed to one person at the start of the relationship openly tell their prospective partner that they also have relationships with other people, cannot be committed or may cheat and then see if that prospective partner wants to continue.
You might be surprised to find that some people may not mind and others who do, can save themselves future heartache or at least go in with all the facts at hand.
I myself prefer monogamy so I don't see cheating as something good. It irks me greatly and it makes me question the people who do cheat and humanity in general. Do they get a buzz out of it I wonder?
I couldn't help but post something. Hope you don't mind.

You are welcome 😊

What exactly is cheating? Care to spare a few thoughts on that and share 😛
