Yeah i am legit fangirl for couple of these writers who have got their books and stuff published, random search got me to them.

whatta stat : How do you even know that? My fav authors are South Asia based though. let me know if you want their link or stuff.

@Hadey _ I absolutely Love Supriya Pathak, thankfully she is getting the recognition now. Hansa and now Ram leela, have loved her always. Her sister is the underrated one though. Ratna doesn't act much, plays maybe but she is soo low-key.

I guess coz these actors were more active on the tv serial earlier and did enjoy a degree of popularity but now with tv quality deteriorating they are not popular. Plus both of them are married to underrated brilliant and subdued actors.

We had Sri doing EV thats the closest you can ask for a bolly movie doing it right for a 50+ actress.

@link: yes plz..

I don't think HW theater personalities go as unnoticed. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenowitz are legends. Some like Julie Andrews were theater stars before becoming big in movies. Theater, especially Broadway is a big deal and most actors will try to get a stint in theater.

I think Ekta made television profitable and important, but not respected. Dekh Bhai Dekh, Malgudi Days, Circus, Fauji those were the days. Even Swabhimaan as a soap was good. Hum Paanch was also good. But then Kekta maiyya became sabun ki factory jo dimaag ko safed dho de.

KMG was good, but I didn't get the big deal. Didn't have the charm of ET. For Desi sci-fi, Mr. India is the best.

Need to see Rockstar.

@Zephy - There is a wide autism spectrum. Her character was at the extreme end of the autism spectrum. Autistic people will make exaggerated faces when they disapprove something. Autistic people are sharp in learning information, but when it comes to social cues and social interactions they are slow and don't get it. They often take things literally and dont get sarcasm, irony and certain forms of humor. She was quite authentic. IMO Priyanka should have won for Barfi. She did a commendable job.

respectable in the sense, earlier working on TV was really looked down upon..now that is not the case.. the actors are well respected by BW and by audience...

infact BW understands the potential of TV now.

Serial quality wise i would agree with you... we had some really good serials in 90s.. even ektaa's hum paanch was nice..

But then i guess.. somewhere down the line housewives won the remote control battle😛

KMG independetly is good..if nothing else i appreciate the concept.. and the sci-fi angle from indian standard was good.. else animations are really bad ..and ofcourse it opened up the market for animations.. beleive elexi and SRK's company all came after...the whole animation/ special effects trend gained momentum..

But acting wise.. HR is no where close to sri's sadma

Maybe, then I stand corrected..

she just annoyed me 😛... however, he diction gets 10/10

but i shall also say, despite everything.. the movie leaves you with a sweet taste.. at the end of it.. i was happy .. ( but the oscar thing totally annoyed me)

@Rockstar: i like dranbir's acting.. effort is also nice.. but i think it cud be more clean in term of handling the parallelism

and compared to HW angsty rockstar movies, this one would fall short of expectations

@Hades , HW is huge even their theatre is big. You have A-listers regularly going back to state. This puts spotlight on every medium. Heck their comedians, mimics and the Las Vegas acts are also recognized. It is in every sense of the word an industry but it still has few of its brilliant talent not under spotlight. Also credit the massive corporation our BW is still run like a family business.
I heart Howard stern #Random musing.

I loved IA's Abhay-ayesha movie and could never finish Rockstar.

Hades- Earlier the money was bad and actors led a poor life . Now Ekta has brought money, she capitalized on 24/7 entertainment. a reason why we had quality programs earlier was the lack of pressure for broadcasting and competition. I doubt they could have handled the viewer demands of today. I don't blame Ekta , she did what she has too. She has brought overall respectability to TV as a medium. Heck movies are now promoted on it.

Hrithik hammed in KMG , though liked him in JA. Barfi was fine - I liked PC, she did justice to whatever was given to her.

Btw speaking of acting and family. Amidst the Khans and Kapoors, I think the Pathak clan is highly underrated. I saw Ram-Leela and was completely blown away by Supriya Pathak. Her sister Ratna is a great actress with the most supreme comic timing. Even mom Dina Pathak was supremely versatile. I remember her playing the strict matriarch in Khoobsurat and the hilarious socialite in Golmaal. Kind of sad that they don't have as much as a rave fan following as others. Ratna should have had hit funny movies like Sandra Bullock and Tina Fey. Supriya should be like a Meryl Streep with her ability to be any character.

Edit: Ratna and Nasserudin have been married since 1982. Thats long in B-Town. 😲

Agree completely - Supriya Pathak was beyond amazing. I think that's one reason I really enjoyed the movie. Even if you find faults in the story, characterisation or the flow of the story, the individual performances made this movie great. When was the last time a 4 movie old actor managed to deliver such a performance?!

And speaking of underrated - Richa Chadda is brilliant! She deserves a lot more success.

On a similar note, when was the last time Bollywood had a movie as hilarious as the Hera Pheri series? Instead B'wood keeps churning out crap like Grand Masti. Welcome was hilarious, particularly that last scene in the house lol, hope the sequel is just as good, if not better!

@Zephs - Ah, I have a soft spot for Shahid but I've really lost interest in all the movies he's done in the last few years. But the guy has potential, Kaminey was evidence of that. He just needs the ability to sense a good script! Haider looks promising!
Uff, so much PC hate?! :( lol that has got to be her career best performance and I seriously applaud her for wanting to do a wide variety of roles unlike Miss. Kaif and most of today's actresses actually. (Sonakshi, Anushka to name a few) she just got unlucky that year, competing with Vidya.

@Zephs - Shabana Azmi overrated? I haven't seen that many movies of hers to agree/disagree but on a personal, off-screen front she gives off this snobby vibe. Regardless, I think she's the most well spoken Bollywood actress from the older generation. No doubt Big B gets the award for the male category. Gosh, these two speak sooo well in English! Puts me to shame!

@Comedies are replaced by Masala movies.
@ shahid is a good actor, infact if he picks the right scripts he could have had the range of RK but the poor lad went through his awkward phase lookwise on cinema . He became an actor too early, if he was launched now , sure he would have done better. Strangely I liked him better than Bebo in JWT.

I like PC - the girl can act and has actually improved. I like the guts she takes with her roles. Aitraaz, Fashion, 7 khoon Maaf, Barfi - she experiments inspite of being an out an out commercial actress.

@H4L - Word, Richa Chadda is brilliant. She was fabulous in Fukrey and in Ram Leela. Truly brilliant. But atleast she is getting characters written for her. She is my star for tomorrow .

@h4l:
no no... no hate for PC at all.. except for her Miss world debacle.. i like her .. have always liked her..plus she is a fellow cancerian.. and i adore the fact abt her how focussed she is..

Barfi - i have mixed emotions.. and i take it out on every1 except illeana.. she charmed me 😛

PC rocks.. Ms. kaif - is she an actress? sry never heard of her in the acting domain.. 😳

( infact i LOVED saat khoon maaf 😆 and her 12 roles in that idiotic movie by gowarikar)😛.. she n harman make a nice couple though

and alas, haven't watched kaminey or haider's trailers..but i hope he hits it.. he is a hard working and really unlucky fella
