As we know this is the Debate forum. We discuss a wide variety of topics. Now my question will have you thinking...it's a little bit on the psychology side and what do think of our fellow members in this forum. Every issue has different viewpoints to it. Is there always a right and a wrong side? Are both sides valid? Do people tend to choose the right side more than the wrong side? Do they really support what they say? Is a person taking the "other" side targeted? Does it take guts to stand against the majority? What side are you usually on? Tell your experiences. So...what do you think about choosing sides and how people choose sides. I'm sorry if this sounds a bit random or confusing lol.

Note: please don't turn this into a battlefield, don't mention names, and keep it a civil discussion!

P.S. This is the first topic I've made in the forum! 😊

Every issue has different viewpoints to it. Is there always a right and a wrong side?
As you have mentioned every issue will evoke different viewpoints. There may not be a clear right or wrong about it . That is why it gets debated. Something that is clearly seen as right or wrong doesn't have much to debate about.
Are both sides valid?
They appear valid to those holding the views. After an open discussion its possible to get acquainted with a broader perspective to the issue and have more balanced views.
Do people tend to choose the right side more than the wrong side?Do they really support what they say?
People usually tend to choose what they believe is right. At times one may choose to choose a side contrary to one's own view just to kick start a debate or to keep it going. I feel that its eventually difficult to argue for a side you don't actually believe in for long. IMO people usually support what they say. What other reason could they possibly have to write what they do in a virtual medium? However, as in real life, its possible that some people do not actually walk their talk.
Is a person taking the "other" side targeted?
We get to see that sometimes usually in some heated discussions. Some members tend to do that a lot more than others. A few are seen to resort to personal attacks during the course of the debate which could be avoided as it is unnecessary and hampers a proper discussion.
Does it take guts to stand against the majority?
I guess it does as some members always seem to hit like and support their friends no matter how skewed their arguments may seem 😆 but as I said earlier I don't think one can go on supporting a side they do not believe in for long. One can always put forth counter arguments to the opposing views without attacking the opponent.
What side are you usually on?
The one that appeals to me.
Tell your experiences.
cant recall any particular experience at the moment but will share if something comes up as the thread progresses 😛
So...what do you think about choosing sides and how people choose sides. I'm sorry if this sounds a bit random or confusing lol.
Expressed above.

Not likely to turn into a battlefield yet! There have been far more controversial topics 😆
and don't mind if it does , popcorn times are welcome too 😆

P.S. This is the first topic I've made in the forum! 😊

There are two types of debates: one is that whatever you say is correct because you are saying it because you cannot be wrong. Whatever you say it does not matter, but it has to be correct because you have said it...if there is any logic in their argument, and if they not using the language of the ego then I support them, and I don't mind what other people think about me,and their verdicts..,cos I am not here to impress/depress anyone,...In an argument or debate means conflict of two minds or views...nobody wins in a debate, we just post different views..it can be change depend on time and situation,..a person who has known the truth can utilize logic in a right way...Anything which is proved by logic can be disproved by logic. ...for eg 'God exist' debate both argue depend on logic...but how can anything exist without being created...victory are very childish.. little children indulge in such things. Who is there to win and who is there to lose!!😊

The convenient option is to pick a side. It's even better if you really believe that there's a right and there's a wrong. When one debates, it's essential that they pick a side and they support it fervently. Prove a point. A similar topic was made by someone a while back in the forum before as well, and my view has still been the same. And it is that I lack that skill where you pick. Because more often than not, I see that it's all very subjective. Not black or white, all grey. And grey leaves no weight to most of your arguments. 😆
