I am sure you know too well. Contentment does not mean that we do not work hard. But contentment gives us peace of mind.

Too much desires and attachment get in the way and causes the soul to be bound.

It may seem an irony. If God wants everyone to be enlightened he could do so in a jiffy. He says that each one has been given a choice to make and yet sometimes says that certain things are fated; then again at times He says Time does not exist and all is an illusion.😆

Since we are all basically energy that is expressed through the body and mind, we could say that energy is most important.
This energy or power drives everything.
Perhaps the term energy misleads because its nature is also intelligence, beauty and love.

Family , health, safety, happiness, career, money.

health and family actually race for first place in my pov, with family comes health , with health and safety comes happiness. happy mind thinks well to have a good career which fetches money , to keep up the family, circle continues.

Which is really of greater importance Knowledge or Character ?

I believe it is the second and proper behaviour gives one the authority and the strength. Knowledge is useful to tap into but if character is lacking then there will be big problems.

It seems that to a pure soul everything is added on but ironically most of them do not have worldly desires (and hence they become pure).😆

Yes we humans are social beings loving company and quite sentimental at times. We need family and friends.
