A young model is grabbing headlines after winning a modelling contest.
Many are discussing whether Fiona Fussi, at only 15 years old, should be wearing such a revealing bikini and showing off her body on stage.
The leggy teen, standing at 1.76m tall, had won the Elite Model Look 2011 competition on 3 November.
But her win has raised questions about whether teens should be parading themselves in skimpy outfits.
Fussi, a Singapore PR whose mother is from Hong Kong and father is from Austria, thinks that it's just common swimwear that "all the other girls are wearing" at the beach.
Her mother, who was in the audience at the contest, also said she had found Fussi's bikini "tasteful".
However, Singaporeans seem split on whether bikinis are appropriate for underaged girls.
In a survey of 50 people by The New Paper, 54% felt it was okay while 46% felt that girls under 16 should not be allowed to model in bikinis.
One surveyee, Mdm Pearlyn Png (52, real estate agent) said, "Girls wear bikinis to look good and flaunt their bodies. Girls under 16 modelling in bikinis might receive the wrong attention. This will be detrimental"
Singapore-born 15-year-old, Fiona Fussi, has won the Elite Model Look Singapore 2011 competition.
The Eurasian student, born to an Austrian father and Hong Kong mother, cried and told The New Paper that the win was dedicated to her grandmother, who died of cancer three months ago.
The competition was held at Red Dot Design museum last night, in front of a 300-plus-strong crowd.
It was clear the 1.76m-tall Fiona was the favourite of the night, with her fresh-faced beauty, flawless skin and stunning features which wowed the crowd.
The United World College student holds an Austrian passport but is a Singapore permanent resident who has lived here her whole life.
Fiona won an all-expenses-paid trip to Shanghai to represent Singapore in the Elite Model Look international finals, which will be held on Dec 6.
She beat 12 other finalists of different nationalities to win the title. To be eligible to compete, the girls have to be living in the country they choose to compete in.
There were only four Singaporeans in the competition, said Singaporean student Putri Diana Abdullah, 18, who was named runner-up.
