This is cruel, inhuman and terribly depressing. Such atrocities are occurring more-or-less everywhere in the world, but when people use religious sources to hide these violence against humanity, this becomes even worse as with religion comes power, and the fundamentalists can often get away with their deeds by hiding behind the veil of religion. Moderate Muslims need to be vocal against these atrocities because their silence will be regarded as an approval by the fundamentalists. The taboo on criticizing these heinous actions and the sources that guides them need to go as well because otherwise that will only result into fundamentalism flourishing in society.

It is disgusting! The man wanted to forcibly admit his wife into an asylum but he seems to be a fit candidate for it now! People talk of abolishing capital punishment but at times death sentence appears to be so inadequate as a punishment ! In fact IMHO its no punishment for callousness at all !

I feel sure that a lot of people would share that opinion but remain silent as they feel intimidated by any possible backlash by the fundamentalists ! If its not he fundamentalists its society ! I wonder what made the girl meet such an end! She wasnt underage, poor, uneducated, orphan nor superstitious . Nor as I said above was she under any religious or legal, compulsion ?
Could there have been that fear of what would people say if she walked out? Honestly why do people bother so much about what others say !!!!

Such incidents are not uncommon in theocracies of the Middle East. Basically the idea is, women must not appear in public without wearing veil or stare at or communicate with any male other than their husband/father/brother. Now driving would obviously require them to remove their veil and communicate with men, which as per the clerics is a sin equivalent to fornication and hence they sanction these sort of punishments. Actually this is nothing compared to the plight of rape victims, who are further victimized and often incarcerated or even stoned to death in public for "getting" raped.

No wonder most of these countries have blankly refused to sign the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On the very next day we have this news covered in almost all the leading news papers, Woman is punished for driving... what kind of place and law it is? Women2Drive the protest on S/N for the basic right of any human. I actually thank god for all the freedom I got and exploited.

It is an opportunity for Saudi women to unite and come in open and agitate for their rights...Saudis who are against women driving where in the Quran does it say Muslims are allowed to use the Internet/TV/AC/fridge n other blah blah things!!! ...Some stupid ignorent ppl create these new stupid laws!!!
