As my final topic for now, I've heard that people are complaining that glee has "jumped the shark"..

What does "jump the shark" mean? It means the stage from where a show, a series, a book series, an actor, a company, a politician, etc starts declining in quality/performance.

Example, Harry potter jumped the shark from book 5.

Rani mukherji had jumped the shark once she signed a yash raj only contract.

two and a half men will likely jump the shark once ashton kutcher comes in.

here are the results of a poll about glee:

Yes! It's been on a downhill slide for awhile.

I don't watch "Glee."

Personally, I loved the shows performances, but absolutely hated the story and it's characters. Whenever I saw them I felt like strangling them, especially rachel. 🤢

So yeah, when a sitcom falls short as regards the story, I think it will be jumping the shark. Glee season 2 airs in india soon, and I for one, won't be watching it.

MODERN FAMILY 4 LIFE.

Jumping the Shark comes from Fonzie in Happy Days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark

What it means is when a ridiculous plot line is devised to garner attention either in a declining show or just to gain viewership in general. Your interpretation of jumping the shark is incorrect.

Ekta shows jump the shark when they leap in time.

In my personal opinion Glee is not declining nor is it jumping the shark. Alright the Karofsky, Brittana plot lines may seem absurd to some. Some may not like the changes of heart Sue & Terri have in the season finale. But one has to keep the audience in consideration.

Glee is a musical centered around show choir. The characters are not meant to be loveable, but intentionally flawed and annoying. It is perfectly reflective of the artsy, moody, showbiz types who throng to Broadway or Shakespeare theater. They are meant to be theatrical. It caters to people nostalgic about the era of musicals, those who dream of broadway but can never really afford it - show choir and theatricality delivered weekly on your television.

Glee also has an appeal in the states that may replicated in UK or some other parts, but not as much in India or other parts. Society here is highly segregated in cliques. The Jews, the Latinas, The Black Divas, the Fatsos, the Asian nerds, the Fags, the Disabled, the Dumb cheerleaders - it makes fun of our stratification. Most people in India won't probably get the jokes on Rachels nose, but the fact that a show makes fun of Jew noses and Jewfros in this way is hilarious.

It also goes beyond what Mean Girls did, that was witty urbane humor - Glee takes the offensive stratification of American society and gives it a small town flavor. It has a unique appeal to small town America that most shows which are typically coastie do not capture.

Modern Family is a really good show too, but its a whole different genre from Glee. Anyone watch Raising Hope, thats another Wicked fun show that totally rips on redneck culture.

- musicals are not known for taut story lines.
- Yes the audience is niche, but its still large enough to be popular globally.
- I think if you experienced clique culture in USA, the jokes won't appear as stupid

Its definitely not everyone's cup of tea. Don't like Glee, so be it.

I never said I didn't like it because of the culture, I said I didn't like it because I stopped liking those sorts of lame jokes back in 2005 😆

It's not some high concept intellectual stuff that has to be your "cup of tea". The sitcom part is pretty half assed. I usually just watch the songs on youtube, though.

The thing about Glee is that it isn't really very realistic at all yet you somehow connect with almost all the characters. I like the way the characters are larger than life. I mean most schools I know don't let the bullies get away with slushying other students yet I still find the show very entertaining.
We all know someone who is a little obnoxious, often snobby like Rachel or the pretty girl who's self-conceited and all the guys are after like Quinn. Yet none of the characters are quite as shallow as they seem if you just watch an episode or two.

I think Sue is probably one of the most evil characters I've seen on TV yet she still had the ability to make me cry in the funeral episode where her sister dies. I think the main reason I enjoy Glee is simply because it's a breath of fresh air. It deals with all the alcohol, drugs, teenage pregnancy issues etc but it's all done with a bit of a twist and with less drama so it makes it all the more fun to watch. Plus, I LOVE the songs and the eye candy is just a bonus! :P Not sure if I answered your question at all but there's my thoughts anyway.
