The Real Top 10 Vampire Movies

While scanning the latest vampire blogs and news I came across a list of the top vampire movies, and well, it was horrible (Van Helsing should never be on a top 10 vampire movie list). So I got my google search on and looked up other vampire movie lists, and of course, those were all terrible as well. I learned pretty quickly that all of the movies listed were actually the writer's opinion of the best vampire movies out there. One person's opinion isn't good enough for me, so in an effort to find the best vampire movies I went to IMDB.com and did a search. In order to get the best results I did a search for the highest rated vampire films, and I made sure that each film had at least ten thousand votes, not just one or two.

So here are my findings, a real top 10 list of the best vampire movies, voted by thousands and thousands of people – not just one random writer.

10. Blade – Rating 7.0/10
This kickass film about one of our favorite vampire hunters, Blade, made the list with over 60,000 votes.

9. The Fearless Vampire Killers – Rating 7.1/10
I was shocked to find this on the list, but it has been in fact voted the ninth highest rated vampire film. About a noted professor and his dim-witted apprentice, who fall prey to their inquiring vampires while on the trail of the ominous damsel in distress.

8. I Am Legend – Rating 7.1/10
Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into vampiric monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles to find a cure. While some don't think it's vampiric enough, I disagree. It is in fact a vampire film and it's made the top ten list. Hurray! Love this movie!

7. From Dusk Till Dawn – Rating 7.1/10
About two criminals and their hostages who unknowingly seek temporary refuge in an establishment populated by vampires. This badass film has made the list with well over 80,000 votes.

6. Dracula (1992) – Rating 7.3/10
Starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins this widely popular film, based on Bram Stoker's Dracula, wins the sixth spot on your list.

5. Interview with the Vampire – Rating 7.5/10
That's right Anne Rice fans, this amazing film made the top ten list (no shock there). Starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and many other A-listers, this film tells the life story of the vampire Louis. Personally, it's one of my favorite vampire flicks.

4. Dracula (1931) – Rating 7.7/10
This classic film, starring the legendary Bela Lugosi, wins the fourth spot on the list. Based on Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.

3. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust – Rating 7.8/10
I'll admit it, this one shocked me, but the numbers don't lie. With thousands of votes, Vampire Hunter D has made the list of the top ten vampire films. The movie is about hunters who race to save a girl stolen from her home by a vampire.

2. Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror – Rating 8.1/10
This 1922 classic beat out countless vampire films. Over 30,000 people voted on this movie and the final tally is an amazing 8.1 out of 10. An incredible score for such an old film.

1. Let the Right One In – Rating 8.1/10
I wasn't surprised to find this on the top of the list. With over 60,000 votes, Let the Right One In has a huge fan base, and understandably so. It's a touching, yet horrifying, tale of a young boy and a vampire girl. The story is so amazing and captivating it has earned this film the number one spot.

Honorable mentions that almost made the list:
11. Lost Boys
12. Near Dark
13. Shadow of the Vampire
14. Fright Night
15. Underworld

There you go, a real list of the top ten vampire films, rated by thousands. Keep in mind that this is a list of the top rated films, not the most popular. So before you Twi-hards go into attack mode, Twilight isn't on the list because while it's super popular, it has HORRIBLE ratings (5.6/10 to be exact).

Twilight is more of a romance rather than horror and it has been very successful.
Movies generally have limited time to tell the whole story.

Movie Review: The Rite Possessed by Familiar, Not-Scary Demons

Thu., Jan. 27, 2011 6:00 PM PST by Matt Stevens

Review in a Hurry: Holy moly, another exorcism movie? Anthony Hopkins plays a priest who schools a seminary student in the ungodly difficult ritual of demon expulsion. Despite a fine cast, The Rite bears the sins of a weak script, with an over-the-top climax that undercuts the bejesus-scaring.

PHOTOS: Movies From the Future!

The Bigger Picture: Hollywood keeps trying to recreate the creeparific brilliance of The Exorcist, arguably the scariest horror film ever made (I said arguably!). The Rite, boasting that always-suspicious "inspired by true events" claim, is another in a long line to miss the mark (of the beast).

It even retreads the device of wise old exorcist mentoring the young priest suffering a crisis of faith. Technically, Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue) isn't a priest just yet—during his final year, he wants to drop out due to doubt. Faced with a hellish amount of student-loan debt, he agrees to give the Vatican's exorcist-training program a head-spin.

In Rome, Michael challenges his superiors to consider psychological explanations over supernatural ones. So the skeptical pupil is sent to apprentice with unorthodox Father Lucas Trevant (Hopkins, lending prestige to this lackluster thriller), who has performed thousands of exorcisms.

The Rite Egon Endrenyi/ New Line Cinema

Padre Lucas involves him in the case of a possessed, pregnant teenager who shrieks, contorts, and coughs up nails. While these scenes might tingle a few spines, the demon's taunts and antics remain safe enough for a PG-13 rating and so hardly seem Satan-worthy.

Things take a ridiculous turn when Michael starts to hear voices and has visions of frogs and a mule in serious need of Visine. Then Lucas himself becomes possessed, whereupon Hopkins—perhaps the devil or a paycheck made him do it—trades on his Hannibal Lecter persona, with his familiar menacing leer enhanced by CGI.

Most of Rite's wrongs spring from the on-the-nose screenplay, which substitutes chatty, expositional scenes for dramatization—and childhood flashbacks for in-depth character study. It also vainly attempts spiritual significance by interjecting lots of theology-lite discussions about Belief and The Truth. Forever and Ever, Amen.

Save your soul, er, money.

The 180—a Second Opinion: Early in the film, there's a horrific bicycle accident/car crash that's more disturbing than later infernal goings on
