Considering the recent discussion/uproar over inappropriate humor or censorship of humor, in another topic; I thought about having a discussion on what constitutes offense.

Here are some stand up acts/skits etc that may be offensive to some people

Sarah Silverman - My Boyfriend is Catholic
Ricky Gervais - Creationism
Achmed - The Dead Terrorist
Clayton Bigsby - The Black White Supremacist
SNL - Motherlover

Take the time to watch them if you can. If you have seen them. Lets move to the next bit.

For each video think of the following: Did you find them funny and laugh? Why was it funny to you? Were you offended? Why did you find it offensive? Did you find it funny but offensive, or purely offensive? Try to elaborate on what you feel is appropriate humor and what crosses the lines.

The purpose of this discussion is to understand varying perceptions and what people find offensive or not. I am hoping that we can have a reasonable discussion without bashing. I've tried to include issues other than religion - so we see a broader spectrum.

Feel free to post any other videos too, but ensure that it does not have any explicit or graphic content. Remember COC. Try to avoid posting people like Ann Coulter or Fred Phelps who claim to hate other groups, but more on neutral people who try to be funny. The former wants to be offensive, the latter group can be tagged offensive even when its not their intent.

I'll watch 'em later. The only one of that that I've already seen is Jeff Dunham's Achmed - The Dead Terrorist. And I LOVE Dunham -- he's hilarious. And because he makes fun of anyone and everyone, I don't feel it should be offensive to any one group. On the contrary, I think people he doesn't poke fun at should be offended since he doesn't consider them significant enough to be a part of his act. 😆

I love some good punch lines and stand up comedy shows..,I dont bother its offensive or not....I like to laugh without thoughts......I think these people do good factual analysis...or its the public moralising which gives rise to an arbitrary set of rules abt good taste and indeed how we 'should' feel abt something.... gives rise to a subject ripe for humourous observation....Those who are not ready to laugh, feel free dont watch watch offensive comedies...no issues😉😛😊

:-\

It was childish and the jokes were ok. On the upside it was charming and sophisticated.

Seen Jeff Dunham's Achmed, it was very good. Silence ...I'll kill you 😆
Nothing offensive in their acts as most of them try to keep a balance. People have the choice not to watch them. If there is a right to get offended then there is a right to offend as well. Most of the stand up comedians present the common stereotypes which exist in different communities. They don't make up stuff, they present what exists already and acceptable in day to day life in various communities. Their motive is to entertain and not to insult. 😊

OMG! You love Dunham too. 🤗

Ever since I saw Achmed, I tell people 'Silence - I kill you' when I am arguing with them. Walter and Bubba are hilarious too, but Achmed is a star. I also love it when he wants Clay Aiken or say she passes security as Lindsay Lohan. 😆😆

You should watch Dave Chapelle's Clayton Bigsby before they take it off youtube again. I'm not a huge fan of Chapelle, but when I saw this I was ROTFL. Its just my kind of humor. A few years ago KKK had a rally in Madison, and they had requested security because there were so many anti-KKK people in the city that the KKK were afraid for their lives. 😆 So the guys at my workplace were being guys and cracking jokes about it and then all of a sudden their tubelights lit up that I was not white. So they asked me sheepishly what I thought of KKK. So I replied, that I felt bad for them and the lack of support they had these days. I personally head minorities for KKK, the separate but equal branch of KKK. They had a good time laughing about it.

One summer me and some friends had written a script for a mockumentary on why white people were never slaves. I played the slave owner of a dumb blonde who created all sorts of mishaps in the house, so I end up trading her for an Asian. Too bad we never made it.

But I should be careful, everyone tells me I am most likely to die of a lynch mob by offending them.
