This makes me wonder, what would have happened in Matrix if Neo grabbed and swallowed both pills.

However, I want to take this in a real world perspective too. We as humans tend to have our own beliefs of right and wrong, our own perceptions of truth? We either argue for one truth or compromise with accepting relativity. Suppose a red and blue pill for our world existed. Suppose if we could take the red pill and find out at least some truth of our world, answers to questions that we answer with belief - would you risk it knowing that everything you know could be a lie. Would you take it even if it meant the risk of your perception of God, religion, morality, humanity could be turned upside down?

Looks like we are already in the Blue pill stage right now so taking the blue pill has no new experience to add. Red pill would be an adventure but would also mean giving up the present dream state. In a way I guess we should be mentally prepared for the red pill, if not, it would be a disaster.

Together with your last post, I would definitely choose the red one.

Perhaps I am too ignorant right now, or too immature, but the whole idea seems too adventurous to me to miss it. I mean, suppose they did exist, the pills I mean, wouldn't it be interesting to actually discover what it is that we call the truth? First, not simply discover that truth, but for once, watch it unfold from a completely platonic, unbiased view! Since it is supposed to be the truth, which would of course perhaps differ in our case on Earth, wouldn't it be human inquisitiveness to find out more about it? I doubt even 1/4 of the people would want to go back to the blue pill, or if they do, they sure will spend the rest of their lives regretting about not choosing the red pill. Since those are two of man's most favorite words: wrong and regret!

I don't think I would be scared at all about my entire existence coming into doubt, or at least about my perception of it, I precise though, perhaps I am too immature to take it this way, but that's just me. If we can spend our whole lives simply on having faith on things we've been grown up to learn from, or simply adapt to, why would I let one chance of seeing the real it?

I think it would be more coming back to the actual world that would scare me then, unless each individual would have taken the blue pill as well. I think coming back to a planet of ignorant people still around, and for a matter of fact, tolerating them thereon, that's going to require persuasion... šŸ˜†

I don't know if the answer opposes the laws of faith, or religion or humanity or any other such thing, all I know is, that's certainly what I would do if you gave me the choice right now. It's a bit like, you may have learnt whole libraries on a specific field, but sometimes in life, and in a particular situation, you only ever go by your instinct, and I happen to trust mine at 200% if not more... šŸ˜‰

Btw, lovely debate once again! šŸ‘šŸ¼

The Matrix has many interesting theories, but the trilogy leaves many questions unanswered.

In your words, what do you think that, technically or philosophically, Who is Neo? Who is Smith? What happens at the end of the movie? Why Neo has super powers even in the real world?

Regarding the choice between Red and Blue pill: Could it be that blue pill is the most "rational" choice? Red pill is only better when some irrational reasons are in its support. Apparently, in the movie, there seems to be a divide between rational entities like machines (+ the architect) and irrational entities like people with hopes, beliefs and will power.

I'd pick the blue pill of ignorance, because ignorance is bliss. I have no interest in having my life turn upside down. In fact, as Karan mentioned, how would you know if the so-called "truth" isn't another matrix in itself? Besides, I'm really lazy, and I'd rather have life the way it is - change makes me nervous. And I don't like being nervous.

Interesting. I had a hunch that you would be one of the few people who would choose the blue pill. Curiously, I choose the blue pill too.

I had created a similar topic on a different forum a couple years back and people were surprised when I said I would choose the blue pill. People tend to get mistaken by my rationalist debater personality. I'm a rationalist, I like to question, analyze and find answers. I like to know things, and chastise people when they do not see the truth/reality etc.

However, the thing is I want to discover the truth on my own terms. I want life to be a mystery, which I try to figure out on my own, draw my own conclusions. I do not want things to fall in place. Sometimes ignorance is good, because it is our ignorance that makes us seek more.

Actually, I hate the movie Matrix and the whole philosophy behind it. To me it was such bogus and waste of my time that I did not even watch any of the sequels. Its not even worth the bandwidth to download. My whole concept to life is that it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and you call it chicken that is stupid. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and you call it a duck but metaphysically it is a chicken because your mind is made to believe a duck is chicken and a chicken is a duck, thats just a lot of metaphysical bs.

In fact my favorite character in Matrix is Cypher the one who betrays Neo and Morpheus as Cypher says "You know, I know this steak doesn't exist. I know that when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious. After nine years, you know what I realize? Ignorance is Bliss."

All said and done, all I really want to do is enjoy my juicy steak (cheeseburger actually) and if the blue pill lets me do that, so be it.

But Sarina, the actual question is, what if your whole life goes by, and you do not get to discover the truth, because only the red pill would have allowed you to do that! What then? šŸ˜‰

It's tricky actually. I also think it depends on your perception of the truth. For me, the truth would have been something I wouldn't have known ulterior in my life, since we are supposed to choose at one point whether we want to know, or never know as in ignorance. I'd rather have my whole life upside down, but at least learn the true me, rather than spend a whole life in ignorance. It varies from person to person obviously. And then, choosing the red pill means I would live a different life than in choosing the blue one, but somehow, I don't think it would mean I would forget the 'me' or perhaps even let go of the 'me' before knowing the truth. It's about how much you want to keep, or how much you want to let go! Or perhaps it's just the fact that I'd rather live a life full of adrenaline, then one of my alarm clock ringing in the morning. Personal choices...

But if choosing the red pill meant I'd know everything that would happen in my life before I lived it, then obviously, clear cut, I'd rather have the blue one. Because I'll lose my instinct then, something I can't really afford to lose... šŸ˜†
