Chemistry kum? …Terence Lewis to the rescue!
When Master Terence Lewis was recently rehearsing with his protgs Kunwar Amarjeet and Shakti Mohan for their first big act on Zee TV's Lux Dance India Dance, he found them brilliant as individuals but lacking in chemistry.
For a passionate contemporary style rendition of the romantic number Khuda Jaane, he wanted to see a spark between the young twosome. He wanted to see two lovers in the throes of passion and not two great dancers going about a choreographed sequence mechanically.
Terence said, "This act will be a waste if you don't give me some real chemistry."
When after repeated attempts Terence still didn't feel the magic, he took the shy twosome aside and said, "Guys, sit together. Hold hands, look into each other's eyes. Smile at each other, pay each other compliments … laugh a little and come back to me in an hour."
When the duo returned, they had big smiles on their faces and if the buzz is anything to go by, Kunwar & Shakti set the stage ablaze with a spectacular performance in the latest episode of Lux DanceIndia Dance on Zee TV this Friday (Jan 8).
When we spoke to Shakti Mohan, she said, "Oh yes. Kunwar and I come from really different backgrounds and were a little awkward around each other initially. But Terence sir made us spend some one-on-one time and I realized Kunwar's a really sweet guy. We were completely at ease with each other after that. I hope you like our performance."
Trust Master Terence Lewis to lend his magic touch and bring a dance act alive!
Sharam ke maare…Geeta caught red in face
While casually loitering around the corridors of Famous Studio, Mahalaxmi, where Lux Dance India Dance is being shot, Master Geeta Kapoor was caught red in face and had to shield her eyes when she found young Shashank from Remo Ke Rangeeley prancing around semi nude, in just a pair of flimsy shorts.
"What in God's name are you doing? Why don't you put on some clothes?" said an angry Geeta thinking how uncomfortable people around him must be feeling especially the female participants.
To which Shashank saucily replied, "This is my costume for today's act.
"How disgusting!" muttered an angry Geeta, all set to blast Remo for making Shashank wear such an abysmal costume.
Little did she know that later on stage Shashank's phullikali act in the Mahisasurmardini recital will enthrall her so much that Shashank will go on to become one of her favorites.
Shashank's impersonation of a tiger coupled with Nikitasha's enactment of the asura alongside Bhawna who had dolled up as goddess Durga was 'one of a kind' and something never seen before.
Mahisasurmardini or the slayer of the evil (asura) is one of goddess Durga's avatars.
The routine was brought out so beautifully by Master Remo and his 'Rangeeley' team that it turned out to be one of the best performances of the episode.
Shashank with his flimsy shorts had his entire body painted as a tiger. The act left not only Geeta but everybody on the sets totally spellbound.
The recital comprised of a combination of three dance forms – Phullikali and Mayurbhanj Chau and Kuchipudi.
Terence's Toilet Jig…
...Was a kick on the rear to the municipal corporation for the perennial water shortage in slums and chawls.
Ever thought you'd watch a dance act depicting two chawl-dwellers fighting to get ahead in a queue for the loo?
Well, if it is out-of-the-box, it's now on your box with Lux Dance India Dance. Wacky themes, enthralling stunts, dance styles you haven't seen before, talent just waiting to explode!
Master Terence Lewis conceptualized this outrageous act when he realized that just like him, contestants Parvez Rehmani and Ameet kumar have lived the typical lower middle-class Indian life in a chawl.
"Fights to get ahead in the queue for the common toilet are very common in a chawl, given the scarcity of water. And since I've seen the hard life in my formative years and so have Parvez and Ameet, I was very confident they'd bring out the spirit of the act with aplomb."
So out came two buckets for props, and Parvez Rehmani and Ameet kumar brought the house down with a comic act that made Grand Master Mithun Da almost cry while laughing!
Giving the city's municipal corporation a kick on the rear for the perennial water shortage in slums and chawls, this act addresses a pressing civic issue while entertaining the audience. With toilet humor at its sparkling best, this one is aimed straight at the galleries!
Out of Cast: Remo's new accessory!
Gone are the days when one would feel repentant about carrying the burden of a cast on his body. Ask Master Remo of Lux Dance India Dance, who has actually turned his cast into a jazzy accessory!
One of his crazy fans on the sets has painted his cast into a super fancy shoe and has also ornamented it with semi precious stones.
"The cast is no more a cast. It looks like a funky shoe" says an onlooker on the sets.
"This is going to become the latest trend trust me! Now everybody who breaks a bone will for sure get it painted like this. Its like a tattoo and it looks so super cool "says a thrilled participant.
It looks so real that it's actually difficult to believe that there's a cast underneath. The plaster also adorns the much esteemed Lux DanceIndia Dance Logo.
In fact it is so well etched that there's hardly any trace of injury. Remo is totally in love with his cast now.
The horrible memories of the accident have finally stopped haunting him!
Everybody who thought that Remo will be wheel chair bound will be totally shocked to see him match his steps with the other mentors in the very first gala episode using his crutches as props!
=====================================================================
The first one was very funny, with Terrence asking Shakti and Amarjeet to sit together for a hour😆.
And Geeta having a look at Semi Nude Shashank and scolding him😲😆.
Seems like the first Performance Episode will be rocking!!
