99 out of 100 times, the background dancers look better and dance better than the main actors (also referred to as "stars") unless otherwise they are deliberately made to look bad. Matter of fact, in the earlier days, they used to make sure that the background dancers are bad (looks, dress etcetera) in order to make the main stars look good. Now-a-days, thankfully, in most films, that is not the case.
But then, as long as we have stars promoting their sons and daughters and they in turn promoting their sons and daughters, the new talent doesn't stand much chance. Once in a decade, we have a Shah Rukh Khan or an Akshay Kumar coming out of no-where. Otherwise, it's all a big incestuous affair in the Bollywood.
And then there are big banners and small banners. Getting a chance to sing or dance in a low budget movie directed by some unknown face is not going to get you anywhere. A Yash-Raj film, a Karan Johar film or a Bhansali film to name a few would get you noticed. Those people have their own favorites so it's extremely tough getting a break in those movies.
Bottomline, it's a cut throat world for newcomers and new talent. Not to mention, every year there's a new show and new talent keeps emerging only to fade away soon.
By next year, these boards will be buzzing with new names and new fans. I am sure a new forum member will ask "Siddesh who?"!
